Salary Cap Thread

remember, the top 51 matters in the offseason and might only include a couple draft picks come draft day (and they will be replacing existing dollars in the calculation; not a full bump)

if all draft picks make the roster, thats likely not a bad thing for our cap number - picking at 50 for our first pick and all

Indeed, good points

Potential Cap Saving Opportunities for Bills this offseason:

Leodis McKelvin- $4.9 mil (via trade if Revis is acquired)

Kraig Urbik- $3.05 mil post June 1st (if Iupati signs and with cheaper options for depth)

Chris Williams- $2.48 mil post June 1st (Injury prone with bloated salary--no brainer)

Scott Chandler- $2.25 mil (with acquisition of Clay and Cragg's presence plus deep TE draft)

Mario Williams- $8 mil ??? (per Buffalorumblings.com, If the Bills converted $12 million of Williams’ $14 million salary in 2015 to a signing bonus, this move would create $8 million in additional 2015 cap space)

Fred Jackson- $2.58 mil (Per WGR and Tim Graham, Freddy isn't going anywhere, nor will they approach him for a paycut)

Marquise Goodwin $465,000 (Injury prone and can be replaced by Marcus Thigpen or any FA or draft pick)

TOTALS- (Urbik, Williams, Chandler, Goodwin: $8.43 Million)

(Add Mario Williams Restructure: $16.43 million)

(Add McKelvin Trade: $21.3 million)

NO Fred Jackson

So with the above moves, the Bills can add an additional $21.3 Million to their cap space that currently sits at $12.7 million for a total of $33 million in salary cap space entering FA)

I believe they could restructure E Wood, A Williams, and do something with K Williams add a year or two and spread the signing bonuse out . KW, EW, and AW are and like 20 mill against the cap. They could easily squeeze another 7m

33m plus 7m =40m. We could get Cutler And Revis If we wanted to. Nothing is off limits.

We currently have $38 million in cap room next year, and that doesn't account for the cap increasing. If we don't sign anyone else we should be looking at $50 million in space.

Next year we have the following players hitting FA:

Dareus, Glenn, Gilmore, Bradham, Cassel, Incognito......with the following RFAs: Hogan, Robey, Charles and a bunch of others.

And with 50 mill in cap room, all of those contracts are more than doable -- even if they're all huge contracts in terms of overall figures.

No doubt.....particularly since 2017 sees a much smaller number of key FAs for us.

K.Williams, Woods, McKelvin, Manuel

I am hoping for two things in the next few years. That EJ miraculously improves.....and that we draft several top players to replace some of the older (and more expensive) upcoming FAs(offsetting EJs cap hit in the process).

Entering FA or 6/1 for 5.5M of that? That 6/1 date does the Bills no good since it's post FA and draft, does it?

"Sadly" that's the case, & will be (for the most part) until we are 'forced' to pay a decent QB.

Awesome breakdown. Even if it doesn't happen. Good work by you. From what I've heard, they are willing to restructure Mario if they really need the cap space, so they should not be prohibited at all from going after any free agent they see fit.

Saw a blurb on ESPN that Cassel might be extended, and the numbers be massaged around to lessen his cap hit this year.

Which suggests the Bills are planning a "splash" -- since they are in good cap shape already.

QB Matt Cassel: The Bills' trade for Cassel will be made official Tuesday, but that might not be the end of the story. Rapoport reported Sunday that the Bills could give Cassel a multiyear extension. As it stands, Cassel is under contract only through 2015, with a $500,000 roster bonus due this weekend. He has a $4.75-million cap number that can be lowered if the Bills convert part of his base salary ($4.15 million) to a signing bonus and extend the deal, which would prorate the signing bonus over the length of the contract.

We can roll that money over to next year then. Basically just putting it in the bank.

Teams are allowed to designate up to two players as post-June 1 cuts even if those players are released before June.
