What makes you think Gronk will be cut?

The big issue on here are two people that will be overlooked. Both are pivotal for opposite reasons. Lawson and Spikes. Both players not necessarily adept but not very easy to adapt. Spikes is the consummate fill the whole and blow up the body MLB, limited or exposed in most everything else. Lawson is the ideal OLB in an active 43D that uses the SLB to cover the TE or a 34OLB and relying upon only the front 4 to get to the passer. While Lawson should fit this team, he is being used as a DE and actually showing to be quite efficient. He is simply being overshadowed.

Spikes and Lawson play in to the Hughes matrix very simply. If the Bills retain Spikes I believe it shows the interest in transitioning to consistency on the defense instead of a yearly tweak. Think about it, last year we added Spikes and Graham, Lawson before that, Mario before that. We have solidly improved ourselves in key positions through free agency while using key draft picks to build our team. By letting the two of the latest additions to our defense walk we may be stepping backward. But, not as much as we could by not retaining our own home grown talent

While I know we did not draft Hughes we may as well believe we did. Which goes with idea build in the draft and upgrade in free agency. We upgraded 3 positions that were very weak last year in FA. If Jerry Hughes was on any other team he should still be our number 1 target.

Hughes will preserve the life of Kyle Williams, as well.

If he doesn't restructure he could very well be cut. I expect he'll restructure.

Here is a question.

When Mario's contract is up, do we try to resign him?

CBF

That is 3 years away. It doesn't need addressed. But to play along with you...his production will probably drop by then. So to resign him for 2 years and less per year may be an option for him and us.

I want the Bills to resign Dareus in the offseason. I would think it will be $100 million and we need to put stipulations in the contract so he doesn't get lazy or have issues with the personal conduct policy.

The resign Hughes. We have some players we can cut to free up space too such as Lawson, Pears and a couple others. We will have $35 million in space. Resigning Dareus and Hughes will take about $12 million from the $35 ( based on their current contracts and their new contracts). So, $23 million left.

I would like them to sign a big time playmaker to make a big impact. It could be a number of positions.

To me, there is virtually no chance they let him go, nor will he want to. We all saw what happens when he is not in the lineup and when he is. It's night and day.

crazy as it sounds the best thing that could happen to him now is to get injured. Let the Pats remember what its like not having him for a few weeks (hopefully 3...).

A groin injury or maybe a hip flexor... nothing big

Hughes is great in a great front 7. I dont think hed be nearly as productive if he goes to the highest bidder. Because the highest bidder will be the team that needs DE help the most. I dont see him carrying any front 7.

In our system, with our guys around him, hes great though!

the highest bidder is going to go after Suh. The teams looking for value and the best player will go Cliff Avril (Pats, I expect, since they had interest in him last time). JPP is going to be the 3rd down pass specialist and thought of as a steal since he will likely be much cheaper then Hughes. Greg Hardy is going to be the most coveted DE. I could see him in Buffalo and Hughes in Carolina.

Hughes has a saturated market to complete with. Nick Farley and many other DT's will be looking for the same DL money.

Hughes was a part time player last year....10 sacks, but none the less, weak on the run. Better this year for sure...and the listed starter. 9.5 sacks, and counting, a classic contract year performance. I will let others speculate on how much he will get from whom, hope its the Bills for the right price. Now, about linebacking.....everybody saying Spikes is gone......I have heard from Spikes when the games are played....he is out there making plays. On the other hand, Rivers is not....thinking he is the one to be gone. Spikes has a role on this team if he is willing to play the old vet and do what is needed when......not sure about Rivers....Bradham and Kiko great outsides, we have to see if Brown is OK in the middle....I worry that those three are all outside guys. Spikes is a for sure middle, lets keep one of those around. Great to be talking about talent......and, just to remind everyone....Randall Johnson has not seen the field I don't think....they are keeping him on the roster for some reason....I am thinking he is a stud also...just in waiting....

Well, why are people throwing out this 12-13 million dollar price tag on him then. Is he really worth that
