Back in 2007, we "had to have" a "big tall WR, a red zone target"

So we drafted the most unnatural pass catcher ive seen in a bills uni, James Hardy. He looked like he never caught a football in his life and dropped many 50/50 balls besides being a stiff running routes.

Desean Jackson was also taken in that draft and look how the undersized speed guy has turned out. None of the other big tall WR's from that draft panned out. Sweed, thomas, kelly etc. Just saying its funny how when we had 3 small speed guys (Evans, Price, Parrish) we had to have the big guy. Now that we have 3 big guys (SJ, Easley, Nelson) we have to have the small speed guy....SO WHY THE F did we not resign evans then?

We took lofton with more miles on him when we needed a speed guy and I just know were gonna have a game where we go deep for the winning td and graham drops it, knowing evans would have made the catch.(cue baltimore drop here) I know evans wasnt the best underneath but we needed a deep guy that can catch, a specialist on the backside in 3 and 4 wr sets. I have an SUV and a sports car, I never complain that my sports car cant go offroad and that my SUV doesnt go very fast. Its nice to have both and not expect the same things from one as the other.

Instead this year with our third pick we take......a deep threat , speed guy, with the same measurables as Evans but with 0 experience and suspect hands. BTW I thought Gaileys offense didnt "need" a small fast WR??? I would have loved to have taken another LB or O lineman with our third.

We basically traded evans for graham( i know we got a fourth ) but this is his replacement so lets watch this year and see who has more production.

Man, I never knew we'd miss 4 catches for 74 yards that much.

Two counters:

1. Resign him just to cut him? because he wouldnt make this roster. Graham played slot as well as outside generating YAC And is much more the type of player bills need. Speed helps on more than a go route. Lee was obsoletein buffalo the day Losman was benched, and last season in Bal, he only made one notable play, not in a good way.

2. Evans and Lofton were wr's that played for buffalo and both were first round picks. There is no comparison between the two... Maybe a lose Ohio connection, Lee grew up there, James is enshrined there...

I already reached for the Advil.

Lee was a quality player for the Buffalo Bills when he was in his prime. Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey realized that Lee's rather one dimensional style had lost more than a few steps so Buddy stole a 4th rounder from Baltimore knowing that Lee's effective moments are only archives now.

Graham is a mystery but based on Buddy's track record I am going to trust his judgement in moving up to get Graham. We were able to fill the needs you whine about in this draft. The potential (and, that is all any draft choice can offer) that Graham provides with his speed is the perfect counter to Stevie and Nelson. Time is on Graham's side but time has run out on Lee's nice little career (A quality team player and good guy in the community.).

Well, for one an Offense should be built on balance in as many phases as possible. So having all guys who are 6'3" and good possession type of guys is not what you should be aiming for and all DeSean Jackson look alikes are not what you're looking for either. You want a couple guys who, in Nix's words, "are open even when they're not open" and you want a couple guys who can leave a lightning streak down the field. As for why not Evans in lieu of Graham, age as mentioned before is part of it, but also as another poster stated, Graham can and has gone across the middle in the slot. I think the BILLS realized Evans didn't buy-in to the program and overall change and his unwillingness to go across the middle adversely affected his value. Graham may go straight down the seam or sidelines, or he might curl underneath, or he might do a double fake skinny post....either way, he poses a threat in both the middle of the field and on the outside, deep and underneath....that's the truest difference between the two. Also, as mentioned on ESPN when the BILLS drafted him, Graham offers a special teams return and Parrish is no longer here, so I think Gailey saw what Parrish could do in the Offense when he was healthy and wants another guy to supplant him.

BTW, I have no ill feeling toward Evans, I think he did what the coaches asked of him up to Gailey and by that time, his NFL persona was deeply entrenched and too late to make major changes, also he was a good guy in the locker room and not causing problems and just showed up and played. So, I wish him well, just not in Buffalo.

"SO WHY THE F did we not resign evans then?"

Because he sucked! = 4 catches, 74 yards, dropped game winning TD in Championship game, yeah, we really missed him. Just saying.

so you all forgot he was injured last year when you repeat his stats? how good were FJ's stats second half of the season? is he done too? same age.

and who says he lost a step? do you know that or does it just make you feel better to think it?

Again, evans has way better hands than graham and more or at least equal speed. I am only pointing out we traded evans for a fourth which ended up costing our 3rd for a so so wr

Evans is gone dude, accept it. Graham is now a Bill, and it does not hurt to root for the kid. It almost sounds as if you want the kid to fail. Am I wrong?

Lets Bring back Evans! Lets bring back that 4 time super bowl loser Jim Kelly! Let bring back a now Fat Thurman Thomas!

Do you really think the patriots want back Drew Bledsoe? N O

Truth is it would be nice to have a reliable receiver. I cant feel comfortable with SJ13 to catch a big ball. Hopefully we have something from this draft, or we can find a great receiver before the season starts.

I'm not sure how good T.J. Graham will be. He's never played an NFL down. Neither have Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd.

And I can't say that I was a fan of trading Evans (I wasn't).

One thing is certain.

As a player ages, speed is the first thing to go.

If we are going to have a one-dimensional speed guy, you can't fault the front office for wanting a guy fresh out of college vs. a guy who is 31 years old.

I am actually really glad that the only thing people can complain about with this draft, is our 3rd round pick and how he should be an inch taller.

I think that Nix felt comfortable enough with what he's done so far with this roster, that he could take a flyer on a WR with a big upside.

He was given the choice between picking Glenn or Hill in the second, choose Glenn and clearly had Graham as the last WR with the speed and passible measurables to fill the role opposite Stevie.

If Graham doesn't pan out, he doesn't pan out. Gambling on a third round pick is not the end of the world. I'm excited about the Graham pick, especially given the fact we addressed so many areas of need with high quality prospects.

Evans was paid millions and barely produced his last year here.

We also signed Clowney in January who is faster then Graham. The Bills want that speed at WR, but Evans was not going to be happy in the rolls that Graham and Clowney will have
