If the move is considered moving up then they are allowed to go, that is why DC/OC leave teams to become HC every year.

But thats for another, higher position in teh same league. I don't know if the NFL has a rule (they do have the rule that you can't block a coach from taking higher position with another NFL team without your permission)that would keep a team from blocking a coach from taking a position in the college ranks.

Well now we will see what kind of "character" the stache has. If he stays put and honors his commitment to Chan and the Bills he will gain respect from his team coaching staff and more importantly the fanbase. If I had to venture a guess I would say that you will see that epic porn stache pacing the sideline finishing what he started. The makings of a dominant D

LV

These kinds of thoughts make me smile. Chan, the players, and the front office of the Bills would understand Stache leaving for a better opportunity as they would probably do the same thing in his place. It is business, not personal, and they all understand that.

But the funny part is what I bolded. The Stache is going to turn down a promotion because it is the most important thing to have the respect of the Bills fanbase :)

What's a couple million dollars more or less as long as you have the Bills fans respect :)

I have no idea if Stache will be the DC of the Bills next season or not, but thanks for the chuckle :)

It all depends on what 'stache wants and what he feels is better for him. Is his ultimate goal to be a HC again one day and feel that being a HC of a college team or does he think that being employed as a coach in the NFL is a better spot? Which spot is more likely to get him the chance to achieve any goals or wants that he might have? He might be the type of guy who would view any move back to the college level a step down from the NFL OR, he may see being a HC, anywhere, a step up from being a co-ordinator in the NFL

Of course you can leave for a college school. You can do anything you want.

you know Code it is more important than anything to have our approval. Didn't you read the Bills fan manual? On page 5 subset 3b it clearly states " the opinion of the coaching staff, front office and or ownership is always superceded by the opinion of the fanbase. As such any unapproved procedural moves made by said parties will be met with swift action in the form of a bag of poop on fire left at the doorstep of above stated individual after the doorbell is rang"

Exactly. That's why it was an awful idea to offer him more money now.

Why? He's been an excellent DC wherever he's gone. Last year he was a bit part of the defense. If it means losing him and having a no-name, I'll take giving him more money.

Actually, did he not have the title of Asst. Head coach? If so not only was he paid more than a backer coach, he one would think had more than "a bit part". That why I personally don't have a opinion on him as a Bills coach. Was he part of the problem last year? Or is he the solution this year?

I can't believe he was asked to sit in a booth and take it all in for a year. The modern NFL doesn't do that.

Well like all of us, I don't know. But everyone has to be held accountable in their work. I really was disappointed in the lack of accountability for Wanny. The title of Assistant head coach IMO comes with some serious responsibility, and a decent paycheck. That's why he took the job?

Other than the rumor he was calling the shots at the end of the year, we know nothing. Granted the talent level wasn't there. But turning DE's into linebackers, still makes me cringe. I have to believe he had some input in those decisions? You can't picture the head coach and his assistant head coach sitting in a room with Edwards not there. And, saying lets can him after the season and stay put. To me it's the equivalent of tanking games.

I don't know what to think. I will say I cannot anoint him a savior just yet, based on work from years ago.

At best, he might have been the DC at the end of the season. But to hold him accountable for the defense, which wasn't his and didn't have the proper players, isn't exactly fair.

I didn't mean to imply he was solely accountable. I want the guy to succeed here. But like a lot of us, I'm only cautiously optimistic.

He already got got a couple of heavy duty new parts for the defense. Imagining he gets a decent linebacker somewhere before the season. I expect

baring injuries to be in the hunt for a top 10 defense, if not better.

Bobby April was Assistant Head Coach when he was there the last couple years. Do you hold him responsible at all for the offense or defense? I don't. Often times, the title of Assistant Head Coach is just that, a title, and it is used to make the person with a great resume, like Wanny, look to the world as more important. It is just as likely an agent thing as a Wanny thing.

You're doing your best too turn me into a negative nancy here. Word was The new FO was changed and had a new philosophy. Since were dragging Bobby April into this in what surely was one of the darkest periods (for the past 12+ seasons). And, since it is now assumed we hand out titles that are meaningless? I guess one can assume nothing has changed at OBD? The hoody down in chowdaville would get a laugh reading this thread. I'll tell you his asst's. don't just have job titles.Sometimes the Homerism runs deep in April. As Boomer says, that's why they play the games. Again I want the stache to succeed, but I don't hand out gold stars based on his fairly distant past.

BTW, read the Dolfish boards and their opinion of our new DC guy.

GO BILLS!!!!!

Most of what they say about Wanny is as a HC, not a DC. They had no problems with the performance of the defense during his time there.

As for the job title, don't get hung up on it. As Kelly said, just because he was AHC it doesn't mean he had a large hand in the defense. He didn't choose the scheme, the playbook, or the players.
