Rayzer32 Posted September 27, 2011 Share Posted September 27, 2011 Leaving him in late during blowouts and preseason games can certainly leave him open to a completely unnecessary injury (and it's definitely foolish and probably arrogant on Belichick's part), but asking a franchise future HoF QB to make a tackles is probably 100 times more dangerous--- considering the Pats' O can practically score at will, it's likely something that would never change the outcome of a game, but how often do we see punters make game saving tackles on long returns? Or Big Ben's tackle on Bettis' fumble near the goalline vs. Indy in the AFC Championship Game? I completely agree Marcia is a pantywaist, and I'm not specifically suggesting Belichick has ordered him to avoid tackling, but his style of play has not been an issue for the Pats' organization--- obviously. For the record, Fitz' blue collar approach matches his physical appearance (ie, the beard) which makes him the near antithesis of Brady's 'mani-pedi' slick image. I'd rather drink a beer with Fitz than taste wine with Tom--- and I'd also rather follow Fitz into battle on Sundays, not just because I'm a Bills' fan. I bet Fitz wears Timberland's in the winter too and not UGG's On days off you will find Fitz chopping wood and Brady chopping broccoli for his ambrosia salads. Brady would have been an idiot to have risked breaking a collarbone, taking a concussion or getting a shoulder torn up just to stick his nose in there to tackle Florence at the 2 yard line. Kelly may have done it at 25, but he had better sense at 35 and so does Marsha. Well, I could be wrong here - I'm not so sure it's clear cut "risk your collarbone" vs do nothing. I thought he had a reasonable angle to push Florence OOB and go with him. Once he's OOB, he's safe - tackle Brady OOB is a sure recipe for a stiff penalty and maybe a fine. It would have helped them if we hadn't tied the game. What it is, IMO (and again I could be wrong) is confidence to the point of arrogance. He felt he didn't need to make the play, because they could get the ball back and go down and score. He may have even felt it was to their benefit to get the ball back right away instead of losing time to several defensive series. And they did go down and score, so his confidence or arrogance or whatever it is, was not misplaced. Where the arithmetic fell down, is not realizing they would have to score TWICE. I was shocked that the announcers especially Gannon failed to comment about Brady basically waving at Florence as he went by him. I would have loved to see the other defensive back that was running and celebrating next to Florence lay Brady out with a vicous, legal block. Apologies for bringing this thread back up but I just saw something that confirms an earlier suspicion. Playbook on NFLN had the first wideshot endzone view I've seen of Drayton's pick return. The truth of the matter is that there wasn't a chance in hell that Brady could have laid a finger on Florence. The camera angles we've repeatedly seen of that play are deceiving in that they provide no depth of field showing how close Brady actually was to Florence. The reality was that if Brady was on a dead sprint and Florence turned around at the 10 and ran backwards into the endzone, there's still no way a 30something Brady could have got any piece of him. He's too slow and was just too far away. The entire discussion we had of whether he should have made a play on him or not is moot; he never had any chance whatsoever to even get within several yards of him. I noticed that too when I watched the game over on DVR, but to come from Deion, the only Hall of Famer who was afraid to hit is a complete joke.
