Raw QB with a 4th down and clock running and he sits on a TO instead of using it to calm the kid and team down. What was he suppose to do? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/23/cutler-they-made-the-decision/ i heard reports today of unnamed teammates making comments in the locker room including "he isnt even in a brace." i also stand by every comment ive made about his sideline demeanor, and that he needed to be in treatment off his knee, or helping hanie. he did neither i also think lovie failed miserably - the organization as a whole really. it seemed they just didnt know what to do when he got hurt. collins shouldnt be #2 if he was so bad he couldnt last one more minute to get to the 4th. what if hanie took a big hit? forte at qb? seemed reckless and irresponsible. trainers letting cutler walk around instead of getting him off it once hes declared out? ridiculous. Here your team is in the NFC Championship and they have him on the sidelines on a stationary bike trying to work it out? Huh... Man did it look bad. Even if it really is a type II sprain... To me, Cutler showed no guts. NONE at all. In a game last season, I recall Matthew Stafford throwing a game winning TD pass against the Browns with a separated shoulder in a COMPLETELY meaningless game. He eluded trainers and fought to finish the game. And Cutler couldn't even do that in a Championship game? Cutler didn't even fight to get on that field. I think he is a dying breed as a HC though, and not because of the way he presents himself. Defensive minded head coaches with vanilla schemes are challenged to succeed in the NFL. The Bears have had a wealth of talent at their disposal for the past 5 years, yet whenever they stumble there only real answer is to add more talent. The coaching staff doesn't really bring much to the table there. I don't know what the hell happened to Jay Cutler but under Shanahan the guy threw for 4500+ yards in a season and looked in control doing it, but in Chicago he looks clueless and tentative. He was sacked a lot this year and if he was healthy in that game, do you really think he would have sat out for a game of that magnitude? He'd be in there. Cutler may indeed have been injured, but his reputation as a selfish douche and a bad teammate, justified or not, has colored all the analysis. Lovie Smith is doing the right thing by standing up for him, but the coaching staff was really asleep at the switch during the game. Get him wrapped up, put him in street clothes, something. Don't let him wander around the sidelines with no noticeable limp. As for Cutler, he could have been much more active as a cheerleader/coach--as Kelly was during the comeback game. Whatever the actual medical result, Cutler's reputation as a leader has taken a massive hit. Whether it is a career-ender remains to be seen. He has taken a lot of hits and never pointed fingers. He has terrible receivers, and nothing special at running back. He is definitely "tough enough". Problem is he's a douche.
