Good link. I voted YES, but if all that is true, he's not a Bflo Bill. Loud, flamboyant dude who dates strippers and porn stars. I just don't see that flying at OBD. I'm okay either way.

I don't care if he is "Buffalo", but he definitely is busted up, and immature as well. I don't think either have changed.....

You folks who think the Bills wouldn't take a player because he dates strippers crack me up. The Bills could care less about character, they don't hold players to any higher standard than any team. You need only look at some of the guys who have been on the roster recently who have been suspended to know that the Bills are not afraid to take thug players. half the guys in the NFL are thugs. I think the only reason the Bills may pass on Merriman is the fact that he has been struggling with injuries and on the field the last few seasons. Personally I'd grab him up, its a low risk move and the Bills could really use a nasty LB.

Nope.

If we were closer to being a playoff team, I'd say go for it.

But as it is, we are in serious rebuild mode, we need to focus on developing our young guys and building through the next couple drafts. Then, after we get a solid base of youth, start making moves on vets who still have some game in them. But bringing him, or Moss in here for one year to be gone next year just seems like a waste of time.

Here the guy SanDiego knows...

http://www.sandiego....argers-merriman

The author lost all credibility with me after this statement:

He was rough, tumble, a rogue, the enemy, and a fans favorite. His motor went 100 miles an hour all the time. We soon found out why, supplements that wound up with a positive drug test.

I would love to hear him scientifically explain how steroids have an effect on your motor. Steroids have no effect on your effort or your willingness to throw around your body, and anyone who believes differently is alarmingly ignorant.

I love people who believe that steroid use mirrors what was shown in afternoon specials. If you don't know what I am referring to, check out the video below....you'll definitely recognize the two actors....

When news first broke about Merriman possibly being available a few weeks ago, I said "nah, pass".

However, with the addition of a few more weeks of seeing our current LBs, I now say "We have nothing to lose, bring him in now!"

I'm sure he will never be able to play like he did when he was juicing. But a 50% Merriman HAS to be better than what we have out there now.

I think you are concentrating on the wrong parts of the article. Mostly I wanted to point out the injuries, and his inablity to overcome them. I was originally looking for information about how he is accused of putting off surgery until training camp ala Shaq O'Neal. He's a D-bag as well, of course the league has plenty, but not many that revel in their D-baggery with quite as much clueless enthusiaism.

I don't think he is worth the time or effort.

a former steroid juicing has been. 4 sacks in last 3 seasons....just because he "possibly" is still better than our goofballs at LB ....isn't the only criteria for bringing him in. i think he is a "cancer" so to speak. i would rather continue looking at our own younger players to figure out who can play next year.

This was pretty interesting from PFT and debunks a lot of bad information:

Many assume that Merriman hasn't been the same since serving a four-game suspension in 2006 for violating the steroids policy. But that's not accurate. He had 8.5 sacks in five games after returning from suspension. In 2007, he racked up 12.5 sacks in 15 games.

The problem came in 2008, when Merriman played in only one game with a damaged PCL. Last year, as he fought to come back from the lost season, he had no sacks in 14 games, and a total of four sacks in two of them.

He hasn't been.

"Jock-Sniffers of the World, unite and take over"!

I would say that 12.5 sacks in 15 games is pretty good. 8.5 sacks in five games is a better pace than the best sack total in NFL history for any player. Statistically, which I know is not close to everything, he was as good in the one and a half years after the suspension as he was the one and a half years previous.

I am almost hoping that they do pick him up just to lord his failure over his supporters. I expect he will help a team for a minute, then become more of a nuisance than an asset.

I'm not his supporter. I don't know one bit if they should pick him up or not, or how much he has left. I hated him, and still do. I was just pointing out some facts and stats that I found interesting. I would have thought his stats went way down, too, after the steroids but they didnt, they went down after the injuries. What they probably should do is work him out like they would any guy and if he wows them enough to cut a player on the 53, so be it. So STFU.

That would be me and I think there's history on my side. The Bills have always stayed away from the "look at me" types and/or character risks. Carl Pickens might have won them a Super Bowl. Warren Sapp. Randy Moss. Anyone drafted by the Bengals in the last 8 years. Even Lynch, who is an interesting character with some issues, is a quiet and hard working guy. I can't think of anyone they drafted who is "neon", "lights out" or similar. That team is a bunch of choirboys.

So I am glad I cracked you up, but for the purposes of this discussion, please show me otherwise.

As far as making it a waiver claim, I wonder if it makes sense from this perspective: You pick him up, play him for 9 weeks and then let him walk. Doesn't that entitle the Bills to a compensatory draft selection? I know it depends also on who we sign, but you can bet it's going to be someone who will make less than Merriman did this year.
