Switching to Geico

Just got a new/used car & my insurance premium was jacked up significantly (State Farm). I considered switching b4, but being happy I didn't think switching companies was worth the risk for the less than $200 it was gonna save me. It's now almost $400 w/ the new car.

FWIW, I have a clean license, never any accidents & no tickets in the last 10 yrs. I also have Classic Car insurance thru another company on my 2nd car.

Anyone wish to give any opinion on Geico, it'd be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife and I have been with Geico for the past 7 years. Don't have any complaints about them. The two glass claims I had to file went smoothly and had no affect on my premium. We're in the same boat as you, no accidents/claims (other than the glass) or tickets. I've heard you really only save with them if you are a low risk customer, otherwise they're priced equal or greater as other companies.

I shop my policy every couple of years and have yet to find lower for equivalent coverage.

We switched FROM Geico when we moved (to Progressive) and saved a boatload of coin.

This is the reason many of those ads say something like, "Those who switched from Company X saved an average of $350." Obviously people who wouldn't save don't switch and many don't switch unless the savings is considerable. It could be the company is more expensive than the competition for 80% of us, but those who switch save an average of $350. Ad speak.

I am now with Geico because it saved my money from my last insurance company. They seem fine. Their rep is fine. I think it's crazy to spend $400 more to stay with a company that doesn't want to give you a break.

Discount!

I had Progressive before Geico and was getting raped by them. I got a quote from them last year that was a few dollars cheaper than Geico but not enough to make a switch worth while. That, and I really don't want to switch to them just because of those damn commercials, they grate on my nerves.

I've had them for almost 20 years... No complaints, although they could have been more aggressive when my wife got rear-ended in a chain reaction. The lady thought the other low rent company wouldn't pay, so I would be SOL for my deductible. I handled it and got paid...

I've been paying 50% less at progressive than when I was with geico.....so yeah I'm not a fan of geico anymore lol

Thanks everyone for your input. FYI, I just switched this morning. FWIW, what I ended up paying was actually less than I was quoted online. I'm guessing that's cuz the quote included my 2nd (seldom used) vehicle. So the ultimate savings is actually about $400 or 40%!

I had allstate was paying about 1400 a year. Switched to Geico saved about 300 a year. 3 months later I got in an accident. Had a 99 ford escort zx2, hit black ice totaled both cars.(somehow they worked it out with carruba collision to pay me the value of my car in a check then i could take that check and use it to fix the car, which i did and made about 150 bucks off the deal. 3 months later I bought myself an 02 ford ranger. My insurance went down to under 1000 a year.

Geico has been nothing but good to me!

i was paying $700 for six months through state farm, and switched to geico for $400 for six months. my state farm agent told me there was absolutely no way they could compete. I don't think i would go back to state farm even if they were cheaper because I was rear-ended last summer and got no help or support from my agent, I was calling the other guy's insurance and the collision shop every day to sort it out, I knew more than my agent! I pay them to do that ****, but they didn't and I needed a car to get to work!!! long story short they weren't good neighbors...

When I first turned 50 I got a great rate from The Hartford through AARP. Ridiculously cheap.

Then, two years later, they doubled my rate. No accidents, no tickets, paid on time, etc. The reason? They had no credit info on me. When I first got the insurance my credit sucked. But after two years of repairing bad credit and taking NO credit, the agencies had no score for me. I was in limbo. So, because my credit was no longer as bad, and certainly not worse (that would have shown up), they wanted to double my rate.

I compared a bunch of companies and Geico was the best deal.

This year, when renewing, I gave the other guys a shot. Some came close, but nobody came in for less.

One company, 21st Century Insurance, was about double what I pay now and completely out of the ballpark of the others. Here's the thing. I get a letter in the mail from 21st Century every month, sometimes two, asking if I want to switch. I believe they had the site where you actually enter what you pay now, so I think they should know they were double what I pay. If that wasn't enough, I called them and told them as much and suggested they might want to save some $ on printing and postage as 1. They were double what I pay now. 2. I made that decision 6 months ago and won't revisit it for another 6 months at the earliest. 3. Their rate is double what I pay now!

I think I know why their prices are so high. They are stupid and spend too much money on printing and postage targeting people who will never switch.
