NFL Game Rewind

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I recently fired all my pay TV subscriptions, and I am planning on using NFL rewind to watch any Bills games not broadcasted in my area. I was trying to find out when a good time to sign up would be. The registration site is a bit confusing saying something about getting full game archive access until July 31, 2010. What happens after that?

So I was doing some research try to find out (I never did BTW) and notice that the original cost in 2008 was only $19.99. The new cost is $49.99. Wow what a jump in price in just 2 years.

Does anybody know what happens after July 31? After July 31 will all the old games go away?

Also what was the price last year? I want to get a feel for what the price will be next year.

Thanks in advance!

NFL Game Rewind? I'm not getting sunday ticket this year but would consider watching the games for a lesser price after the fact. How does this work???

I was looking into this as well after ditching Sunday Ticket. This is my understanding of how it works: You pay for the service and get the games online. You have access to the games immediately after they end. If you wait for some amount of time (want to say it's an hour after the end of the game) you will have the option to watch the games commercial free.

The tough part, of course, is avoiding the score until you watch it. But if you can pull that off, it seems like a good way to go.

The games don't get posted until midnight Sunday night, and all games are inaccessible during other NFL games. So you can't watch the Sunday Bills game while there's a MNF game going on. However, once they're posted, there are no commercials.

The July 31st date is just when your subscription would be through. So you'd be paying $50 to watch games from the past 2 or 3 years until then. If you want it after that date, you have to wait to subscribe on August 1st. It's a terribly stupid set-up IMO.

'Easlier' this season with all games 1:00p.m. starts.

Really? Wow. Thought it pertained to each game, not the TV schedule of the entire day/NFL. D'oh! That makes me rethink my choice to ditch Sunday Ticket...

inflation 101

oh yeah it was only 40 bucks last year. 10 bucks is not that bad.

Relative to the Sunday Ticket it's dirt cheap. But I'm not so sure it is a great deal for watching something on the internet. Of course if they showed the games live I'd pay twice as much.

I got NFL Rewind last season. It was 39.99. The picuture quality was disappointing, so I didn't use it as much as I thought I would...but, it was still a decent value.

Really? I was always very impressed with the picture quality. It always started out fuzzy, but after a couple minutes it buffered and came up very good, almost HD quality. I not only don't do Sunday Ticket, but I recently got rid of cable all together. I just use Hulu and Netflix now. I definitely plan on getting rewind again.

I also got it last season. The picture quality was fine, I thought, on my Mac. But I didn't use it as much as I thought I would, since I generally knew the outcome of the games before they were available or I could get around to watching.

I'll second this. I watched a few games last season that i had missed while traveling, and found the picture quality to be great. It doesn't always start off good, but usually by a few minutes into the game it was HD quality.

The setup doesn't allow you to watch a game while other games are in progress (like the MNF, as mentioned above), but last season i beat the system by starting the game earlier on, and then pausing and resuming during the MNF game. As long as you start it while there is no other game on, you should be able to watch at your leisure.

....and the $39.99 was their discounted price, in which the $49.99 price returned after the promo was over. I thought about it

last year but when I went back to sign up, the $39.99 price was gone.

When you sya the pix was disappointing, how so? Did it play decently on your PC monitor, but not when fed to your HDTV?

Clearly it's not The Ticket HD quality, but the preview was watchable. So the preview quality (Pitts SB) isn't representative of what one would get?

You know, when I watched the demo, it was awesome...but for me, there was definitely a dip in picture quality...lots of buffering issues. Perhaps it was/is my computer (I am not the most computer savy person in the world), which is a Mac, but I haven't experienced that problem with many other sites...youtube, porn...all look great! What am I doing wrong?

I don't know. I doubt it has anything to do with your computer; I'd think it would have to be connection rate. Are you using Wi-Fi? If so, maybe a wired connection while you're watching games would speed it up enough? Outside of that, I'm not sure. It's going to take more speed to keep the NFL stream buffered than it does YouTube, but if you're able to stream sites like Hulu without buffering issues I would guess you that would be about the same.

I had rewind for the past two years and was happy with picture quality, etc. and will sign up again. I thought they provided some incentive to sign up early, and I thought I only paid 39.99 for the whole season...

FWIW, here's my method to avoiding Sunday Ticket: I've setup a Slingbox with family in Buffalo, so I can see all the games live through that, and then watch NFL Rewind the 3-4 times I'm going to the game or miss the 1PM viewing for family reasons and can't record the game over my Slingbox (I think Slingbox does allow you to record events through a local DVR, but my in-laws have no DVR / way to record).

I've been hearing a lot about slingbox since I 86'ed pay TV, but I can't really graps the concept fully. Could you please explain how it works? Thanks.

You can get all the details at www.slingmedia.com

The key is that you pay ONE TIME for a little unit which plugs into a router and also connects to cable TV. It buffers and then streams any channel (separate tuner in the slingbox allows you to stream a different channel other than the one someone might be watching), whether the TV is on or off. You then install their free client software on your PC (now have iPhone support, which is way cool) which allows you to connect to the slingbox, remote control to whichever channel you want, and watch. Super simple to setup.

So I bought the unit (I live in NH) and shipped it to one of my family members to install it at their house in Buffalo. So now any time I want I can check the news, etc. from any Buffalo channel by logging in and watching from my PC. As an advantage over Sunday Ticket, you get the pre and post game news from Buffalo stations.

One more thing: I connect my PC at home on Sunday to my big TV with an S-Video cable output from my laptop, and then I watch the game on my family room couch like any other channel from my local cable TV stations. The resolution is not as good as non-standard TV, but good enough for free.
