trade edwards to cowboys for kitna

Recommended Posts

Kitna was a multi-time 4000 yard passer and 20 TD thrower on a really bad Lions team. Earlier in his career he had a lot of 3000 yard season with a reall really bad Bengals team. I highly doubt any TBDer would complain with those numbers. I have been saying the Bills should go after Kitna since last offseason - then they signed Fitz instead. Good call on that one Russ...

Led the league in sacks both years, threw more INTs than TDs both years (but only hit 20 TDs once, for the record), fumbled 28 times, and went a combined 10-22.

But hey, at least it wasn't boring.

What has Kitna EVER done?.....not saying Edwards has done anything either...but this trade reminds me of trading garbage with your neighbor...and at least Edwards may have some upside with Gailly's tutoring. The previous regime destroyed everything in its path.

You do realize Kitna is amongst the all time leaders in passing yards right? (That statement is in no way an endorsement of Kitna, just a direct response to you asking what has he ever done)

Is he a HOF caliber QB...of course not. Is he even a Pro Bowl type QB...NOPE...But the guy has put together some productive seasons in his career. He is in no way the long term answer, but I would rather see him behind center than suffer through another painful and literally embarassing year of watching Trent.

That being said, I still think Brohm has the most upside and could win this starting job anyway, so I dont really care if we have Trent or Kitna as either of them I think become the backup anyway.

PS: One more thing...the saddest part of this debate is that as old as Kitna is, as inconsistent, etc...we still would have won probably 3 or 4 more games last year with him over Trent and Fitz...Thats not a statement of Kitna being good, thats a statement about how bad our QB's were last year...

Yes I meant he threw for 4k twice, while getting over 20tds once. And I knew he turned the ball over - didnt know about the sack stat though.

Either way I still would like him on the team. Like I said he was on some really bad teams (yes I know we are a bad team) but I feel a lot of those sacks/fumbles/picks are a result of him playing on crap teams. If he is pressured less he throws less picks and if he is sacked less he fumbles less etc. With a top LT drafted and Wood coming back strong our line will be better and hopefully could keep him upright.

At this point I dont see a better option that is cost effective/realistic.

Should have signed Kitna instead of Fitz last offseason. Might have won a couple more games.

Even if I agree with you that having Kitna means the possibility of winning 2 more games. That alone could have set this franchise back years. Fewell stays, Guy might not get released, Nix may not have been brought in, and we draft 5-9 slots further back.

Thank god we didn't win a couple more games.

Another stellar post from BYGD1. The body of your work to date is a collection of lame and negative single sentances that never refer the content of the topic at hand. Your posts read like a sixth grade recess discussion. If all you are going to do is insult with no reasoning behind it, do us all a favor and keep it to yourself.

I think you Like me LOL A Bromance in the making, My Body of work LOL

Kitna...nice guy, good leader. Undrafted, eked out a 13 yr career. Stepped aside gracefully, and enthusiastically supported Palmer after being named the Comeback Player of the year the previous season.

He was a good player for some very poor B'gals teams. Then going to DET! Yikes!

He has a fatal flaw - very small hands. I wouldn't want the see the Bills pick him up.

It would be more accurate to say the Lions (an awful team) lead the League in sacks those years. Prior to that, he had more than 35 once. In fact, 1/3 of his career sacks came in those two years.

He's a little sloppy with the ball but it is interesting to hear people on this board knock the guy when many were screaming throughout the season for any of our QBs to just throw the ball down field, INTs be damned. He takes a beating and he plays in pain, unlike our QBs for the past few years.

Maybe he's not the guy, but we don't have a viable model for developing a starting QB and we haven't for years. Sure, let's draft another QB. Who's the QB mentor here? Is Fitz helping TE with his problems? Will TE tutor Brohm? Or Brohm the draftee?

Yet everyone is scratching their heads over why our QB situation perennially sucks.
