REPORTER: How interested were you in coaching in Buffalo? MARTY: Well, I wasn't certain, quite frankly, that I was interested in coaching, but Buddy Nix has been an associate of mine for a number of years. And Buddy in my opinion is one of the best personnel people I've ever been around. So, with that in mind, we had some discussions, but to suggest that I was ever a candidate would not be accurate... My discussions about it were really driven by the fact that I have such a high regard for Buddy Nix. REPORTER: Did Buddy reach out to you? MARTY: No. Buddy and I, having been together in San Diego for an extended period of time, are good friends, and, you know, we had some discussions about (my son) Brian Schottenheimer, and all. But, there was never a point in time that this was something that I was absolutely excited about doing, to be candid with you. Schottenheimer breifly discussed the report that Wilson was not interested in him. We asked him if it was true. Schottenheimer breifly discussed the report that Wilson was not interested in him. We asked him if it was true. "Not in my sense of it. No, I don't think so," Schottenheimer said. REPORTER: Were you disappointed at all that there didn't seem to be a massive level of interest from the Bills in bringing you in? MARTY: No, because I never considered myself a candidate. oddoublee
Yeah, I was rejected by the Bills. Come on...no one is going to come out and say that. He is covering himself. But if you read between the lines, you can tell he was dancing. Sometimes everyone needs to learn not to read into the EXACT words that are said and written. Its all about context, tone and timing when it comes to quotes. Sorry...Grahm is reputable and has a tendency not to speculate. I believe 100% Marty was interested. Beebe's Kid
Who cares what Marty says. Clayton, Schefter, Trey Wingo, Mike and Mike, Schlop and Bullfrog, and the guy with more access than RW himself, Sully, already confirmed this to be BS. I find it interesting that you have decided to read into this beyond what the man himself apparently said. Another school of thought if he was snubbed would be for him to decline to comment at all. as opposed to weaving a tapestry of commentary for everyone to read between the lines so that he wouldn't be embarrassed. he's a guy on record as having said he wasn't interested in coaching again, those comments apparently pre-date the jauron firing, and now this. if he wants to coach again, why the wishy-washy response that he's not maybe not sure that he wanted to coach again? Is Buffalo the only job he is interested in? Why wouldn't he just say "I'd sure like tog et back on the sidelines, this just wasn't the opportunity for me.". transient
Sounds to me like a conversation among friends, and nothing more. Hey, congrats on the GM thing. Thanks, got a coaching position available... you interested? Let me think on that... naw, not really. Ok, how about your son? I find the more interesting part of the article the conversation with Billick. Did he really think calling back 15 minutes later with a handful of sour grapes was going to make the next GM more interested. Thankfully we didn't end up with that a$$ and his over-inflated self opinion. Who does that?
