Report: Mangini likely out if Holmgren is in

Citing "numerous league executives," NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports that the Browns' potential hiring of Mike Holmgren to run football operations would spell the end for coach Eric Mangini's one-year Cleveland stint.

Holmgren is reportedly "very interested" in the position and would likely take the organization in a "new direction," hiring a coach from the same Bill Walsh/West Coast offense tree he came from. The Browns are 2-11 through 13 games under Mangini. Coaching targets for Holmgren may include Jon Gruden, Steve Mariucci, Jim Zorn, Dick Jauron, and Marty Mornhinweg. Dec. 16 - 9:59 pm et

Well, it is Cleveland. That may be the best they can attract with the state of their franchise. Like a house infested with termites, there's not too many people itching to go into this scenario. It's a !@#$ing mess.

And, yes, the Bills are in a similar situation. Ralph can talk $10M all he wants, but I doubt anyone worth that will ever walk through the doors of OBD.

LMFAO!!

Total bull ****. Jauron doesn't come from the WC coaching tree. The original article cited by Rotoworld is here, and doesn't mention any names. Rather it says,

"Holmgren, retired for a year and nearing the end of his football career, likely would want a fresh direction for the team and his own coach. Specifically, he is likely to reach back to his Bill Walsh/West Coast family tree for his coach, seeking someone who shares the same philosophies, terminology, vernacular and football ideology."

Here is Bill Walsh's Coaching Tree and Dickface Jauron is nowhere to be found on it.

Bad "reporting" by Rotoworld. Lazy, dumbazz copy and paste job with a sprinkling of names of current bodies on the street looking for work as a HC. Stoopid.

The ultimate in Irony would be if Holmgren hired Jauron and signed JP Losman as his QB, then beat the bills in 2010

No. Irony would be doing all that stuff and going 0-16. Actually maybe that would be considered cause-and effect?

PTR

That would be some trick.

If Holmgren is very interested in the job, that means he isn't hired yet. The rest of the story is BS. We already know Gruden is locked up for years to come as an analyst, and the rest of them are not exactly heavyweights. But it is a funny commentary. Of course, who can dispute what "numerous league executives" are saying? LOL
