I remember before the season opener, almost all of the NFL prognosticators picked the Chiefs to beat the Bills, and what happened, the Bills destroyed the Chiefs in Arrowhead. I could see the Bills doing it again, maybe not such a lopsided score, but a win by 10 points or more.

-The same could have been said with the Detroit Lions last year, but they finally made it. -Yes the LT position is a question mark right now, we all hope either Glenn or Hairston do well this season, but the O-line allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL, so I don't see how they make you nervous? -I'm surprised Fitz played with 2 cracked ribs after Fletcher buried the crown of his helmet into his sternum. After that, there's no questioning Fitz's toughness. QB coach David Lee was brought in to work with Fitz on his mechanics. Lee has worked with Pennington, Romo, and most recently Eli Manning last season (and look at how well Eli did). Only time will tell if Fitz can play good for a full season. -Fred Jackson had a broken leg, he didn't have torn muscles, tendons or cartilage. You're making Jackson's injury sound like Eric Wood's double compound fracture, which isn't the case here. Fred is a young 31 as he hasn't had the normal wear and tear of a RB his age. -As for the rest, we'll have to wait and see how the season unfolds. In regards to the Pats dominance, they only beat one team last season with a winning record, and that was in the AFC Championship game. IMO, the Pats got lucky as the Ravens had 2 costly gaffes that cost them the game. Sometimes, that's all you need is luck. Besides the Pats offense being good, their defense sucked last year, especially their secondary. The Pats aren't the unstoppable monsters that they used to be from the early-mid 2000's.

Great points!! I gringed when I heard Jauron say "It's hard to win in the NFL". I love the attitude Buddy & Chan has in that they both expect to win, not hope to win. I think Buddy has done a good job at getting good players, plus adding depth this offseason. Another thing that works in our favor, is since we finished last in our division in 2011, we play the other last place teams this season.

Up until the AFC Championship game, the Patriots did not beat a team with a winning record. A couple of gaffe's by the Ravens cost them their chance at the Superbowl. While the Pats offense was great last season, their defense, especially their secondary was terrible. I'm not taking the Pats lightly, but the Bills are catching up to them, and could surpass them in the AFC East this year.

While all the NFL prognosticators are saying the Bills improved in the offseason, most are saying the Bills could make it in the playoffs as a Wild card, while the rest are saying the Bills will miss the playoffs. Well, for all of those naysayers, watch this video from the NFL network: http://www.nfl.com/qs/top20games/2011/New-England-Patriots-at-Buffalo-Bills.jsp?module=HP11_hot_topics In the offseason, the Bills did the following: -Promoted Dave Wannstedt to Defensive Coordinator, (who is an A+ as an DC) -Signed an elite DE in Mario Williams -Signed a good pass rushing DE in Mark Anderson -Drafted Stephon Gilmore in the first round of the draft -Hired renowned QB coach David Lee to help Ryan Fitzpatrick work on the mechanics of his game Other notables: -Kyle Williams is healthy for the first time since his collegiate days -Shawne Merriman appears to be healthy for the first time in years The Giants showed in the Superbowl that a great pass rush is key to shutting down Tom Brady. I think the Bills copied that blueprint in the offseason, and the Bills D-line could possibly be better than the Giants (only time will tell on that). When you add all of that up, is there any doubt that the Bills can compete with the Patriots for the AFC East title this season?

"And he'll need to play big, because the rest of the defense will feed off how the line performs. It'll be tough for offenses to double-team Dareus because of Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Mark Anderson, and that could spell trouble for Tom Brady, Mark Sanchez and Ryan Fitzpatrick." Yeah, that's right, that could spell trouble for Ryan Fitzpatrick, so watch out!! I saw this listed "By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Blogger", and right away didn't take this guy seriously. With having Wannstedt as our DC, and our new D-line of MW, Dareus, KW & Anderson, that is only going to get the Bills one more win than last year?! Really?!

Stephon Gilmore...not intelligent?

Some NFL experts considered him the best CB in the draft, so it just depends on who you listen/talk to. -
Former WR Josh Reed Slams Buffalo
Jerry Jabber replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh "Butterfingers" Reed. We used to sarcastically clap whenever he caught the ball, because of how many times he would drop it. Like others have said, if it wasn't for Buffalo, his NFL career would have lasted half the amount of time. -
Good points. Also, up until the AFC Championship game, the Pats did not beat a team with a winning record all season long. Last year, the Bills lost to the Jets: 27-11, and 28-24. You could say that about the Jets D in the first match up last season (27-11), but the second match up was much closer and a good pass rush would have gotten us the win. Thank you!!!

In regards to coaches, I think the Bills are better. Promoting Wannstedt to the DC, plus hiring QB coach David Lee (who helped Pennington, Romo & Eli Manning) was a shrewd hire for us.
-
I'm just glad George Edwards got fired, and the Bills finally got pass rushers.
-
I wouldn't say that is a weak argument. The Pats had a 15 game win streak against the Bills, which finally ended last season. Nope, but if your offense all of a sudden shuts down, and you're giving the opposing Offense many more opportunities with better field position, then what do you expect?!
-
I disagree with the Jets. The Jets went backwards last year to 8-8. I don't see Tony Sparano & Tim Tebow having that great of an impact on the Jets. The main reason why the Bills have been unable to beat the Jets is because we couldn't get any pressure at all on Sanchez. That will change this year. While I'm not dismissing the Patriots at all, but the Bills beat them and had a 21-0 lead in the 2nd meeting (before SJ's benching). This is the first time in years where the Bills have a legitimate chance of winning the division.

Last night on "NFL Total Access", after Nick Barnett gave Solomon Wilcots a tour of the Bills facility, they had on Warren Sapp (and I forget the other guy's name) and discussed if the Bills were a playoff team this year. Sapp said (somewhere along these lines) 'No, not this year, but Dave Wannstedt is transforming the defense, and it takes time'. I have to disagree with Sapp. IMO, the Bills were a playoff team last year before half the team went on IR. The Bills beat the AFC Champs [Patriots], and lost to the Superbowl Champs [Giants] by 3 points. Last season, the Bills had one effective NT [Dareus], because Kyle Williams was dealing with Achilles problems before going on IR. This year, the Bills have a healthy KW to go along with Marcell Dareus as their DT's. Plus, the Bills added an elite pass rusher in Mario Williams, plus a very good pass rusher in Mark Anderson. Also, the Bills have an easier schedule since they finished in 4th place in the AFC East last season and will play against other 4th place division teams. IMO, I believe the Bills are a playoff team this year, and have the possibility of winning the division.

Maybe Vilma donated the most money as a player, or had the most player involvement in the bounty scandal.

With a much better defense (at least on paper), the Bills should be able to run the ball more, instead of throwing. While Fitz is not "elite" I would say Fred Jackson is, and CJ Spiller has the potential to be "elite". Being able to run the ball more, and having the ball more (because of the better defense), the Bills will able able to eliminate a lot of turnovers.

Pass Rush could be the key to the SB

Pass Rush could be the key to the SB
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't talking about last season, I'm talking about the potential of the Bills this year with a great pass rush, compared to the previous SB champs that won with a great pass rush. With the Bills having a much better Defense (at least on paper), expect the Bills to be rushing more than passing (which should reduce the amount of offensive turnovers). -
Exactly!! I don't think there's a Bills fan in the country that wants to see the Bills lose another Superbowl. It's either a Superbowl victory, or no Superbowl at all.

http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2012/06/25/pass-rush-adds-could-be-difference/ "Buffalo’s pass rush additions have garnered the Bills a lot of offseason attention. But by adding Mario Williams and Mark Anderson and the strong likelihood of a back to form Shawne Merriman, they’re also being looked upon as a legitimate playoff contender because of what recent Super Bowl history has said about teams with pass rush talent. NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah astutely pointed out that four of the last five Super Bowl winners finished in the top 3 in sacks in their championship seasons. He then looks at the bottom 10 NFL clubs in sacks from 2011 and picks out four that he feels best addressed their pass rush shortcomings. Naturally the Bills were on the list. Here was his assessment. Buffalo Bills (T-27th with 29 sacks): The Bills weren’t bashful in addressing their pass-rushing needs. They brought in the top available pass rusher in free agency (Mario Williams) and robbed a divisional rival of their top pass rusher (Mark Anderson). Those two players should help the Bills drastically improve their anemic sack total of 2011. Merriman isn’t even mentioned in the assessment, but with the spring he was able to put together the Bills could have a third proven pass rusher added to the fold." I'm liking the Bills chances already.

The Bills beat the Pats last year with an injured Kyle Williams, rookie Marcell Dareus (who had no rookie minicamp, OTA's, minicamp & a shorten camp), and no pass rush. Add in Mario Williams and Mark Anderson and a healthy Kyle Williams, is there any doubt that the Bills could beat the Pats again and have a legitmate shot at winning the AFC East?

Young slightly ahead of Thigpen in Backup QB race
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From twitter: "Buffalo Bills @buffalobills Gailey: VY has a natural feel for the QB position. Experience gives him an edge, but Thigpen has better feel for offensive system." -
http://blogs.buffalo...s-minicamp.html "It's early, but Young looks like he's currently the slight favorite, according a Wednesday report from Tim Graham of the Buffalo News. It sounds like neither player, however, is playing very well at this week's minicamp. Graham said both players have looked "mediocre at best" in offseason practices and "lousy at times." http://www.nfl.com/n..._headline_stack
