Practicing against this defense
Jerry Jabber replied to You herd it hear last's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand they run a 3-4 & we run a 4-3, the point is the Jets have one of the better defenses in the league, so why not have our starters on offense play against our starters on defense on a regular basis in practice. I'd rather have our Tackles going our against the likes of Mario Williams, Mark Anderson & a healthy Shawne Merriman everyday. -
Practicing against this defense
Jerry Jabber replied to You herd it hear last's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather the Bills 1st string offense play against the first string defense. Over the last few years, the Bills have struggled against the Jets defense, and have been on a losing streak against them. I think going up against the first string defense daily will get the team ready for the season opener. -

That's great to hear. I'm puling for him & Troup to do well. I know Troup has an uphill battle with coming off of back surgery. Thanks for the update!! -

Bills Redskins Pre-Season Replay
Jerry Jabber replied to TSNBDSC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Theismann's lovefest for the team is sickening!! He is basically one step away from making out with the Redskins players. -
I agree 100% This is the type of D-line the Bills should of had all along with playing against Brady twice a year. Glad we finally have a smart enough GM to have realized it.
-
The Pats only beat 1 team last season with a winning record & that was the Ravens. The Ravens shot themselves in the foot twice and blew the game, otherwise it would have been a Ravens/Giants Superbowl. While Brady is getting older, he also put up the best stats of his career last season. Hate to say it, barring a major injury, Brady could play until he is 40 (maybe a little longer).

I agree. I think when the Bills have a good lead in a game, is when we'll see the offense go run heavy. Otherwise, the Bills will throw a lot until that point.

Another great, detailed report. While Chris Brown does a very good job of covering the Bills, your reports are the one's the Buffalo Bills should be using on their website. Thanks again for the hard work!! -

Thank you very much for your detailed reports & pictures, it is appreciated very much!! Keep up the great work!!! -
I was thrown completely off guard when I was being put on the air with John & Chris (wasn't expecting that at all). I figured I would have been put on air sometime after Chris' interview was over with. It was very cool being able to talk with both John & Chris last night.

Thanks! I wasn't able to listen to the whole show, but so far, I like it a lot.
-
I called in and didn't realize Chris Berman was coming on. I was able to ask John & Chris if Shawne Merriman has a good year, do they think the Bills will offer him a contract extension at some point, and also asked about the Bills being able to resign key players who's contracts are coming up. Chris said that Merriman could really be an X factor for the Bills this season if he can stay healthy. As far as impending free agents are concerned, Chris feels that Buddy Nix has done a great job so far with keeping key players, and feels that the impending FA's would want to stay with Buffalo as he feels the Bills are putting together something special.

Penn State sanctions handed down

IMO, all of the fines & injunctions against Penn State are warranted except for the 4 year playoff ban. The NCAA is punishing the current students for the 'sins" of the past. Don't get me wrong, Paterno and anyone else that knew this sick, scum bag pedophile was raping little kids and did nothing should have their names dragged through the mud. Got this from an article on msn: "Penn State football under Paterno was built on - and thrived upon - the premise that it did things the right way. That it was not a football factory where only wins and losses determined success. Every major college football program tries to send that message, but Penn State built its brand on it. Paterno's ''Grand Experiment'' was about winning with integrity, graduating players and sending men into the world ready to succeed in life, not just football." http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/penn-state-punishment-jerry-sandusky-sex-abuse-scandal-072312 Turns out Paterno and others didn't live by their own "code" and should be shamed and tarnished for many years to come. While it was that sick scum bag which committed these heinous acts, Paterno and others deserve all the negative press against them, because they protected their football program and this pedophile, instead of doing the right thing by protecting the victims, who happened to be little kids. -
You've got all valid points. Before the injuries started to rack up, the Bills were in the top half of the league in 3rd down conversions: http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-2/8---Will-the-offense-rank-in-the-top-10/fac138e5-eda4-47e6-bcb7-ea44034e749d "However, what the offensive unit is most focused on is where they struggled. Third down conversion percentage was a problem as the Bills finished 28th in the league with just a 32.5 percent success rate. Surprisingly, some of their worst success rates on third down were in third and short situations. Buffalo ranked 28th on 3rd-and-1s in 2011 (60%) and last in the league on 3rd-and-2s and 3rd-and-3s (30.8%). As a result Buffalo struggled to sustain drives ranking 30th in 10-play drives in 2011. Of course that wasn’t helped by the fact that the Bills offense was often handed less than advantageous field position. They ranked 29th in average starting position when they got the ball back (26.2-yard line). What has Buffalo’s offense most encouraged is for half a season they were a top 10 offense last year. After their Week 8 victory over Washington in Toronto, the Bills ranked 10th in the league in offense, fifth in rushing, 13th in passing, 11th on third down conversion percentage and third in scoring." A big key to the O-line's success is Eric Wood. The comparison is night and day when Wood is in the line-up. I really hope Wood has no more major injuries, he's a fan favorite, plus he's a great player. I'm glad Nix added new players and depth across the O-line, because the Bills needed it. The big key to the offenses success (and the whole team) is can they stay healthy? If key players start going down again, like in previous seasons, then the Bills will have a hard time making the playoffs. On the other hand, if they stay healthy throughout the season, they will be contenders for the AFC East. Good feedback! Thanks!!

I remember before the season opener, almost all of the NFL prognosticators picked the Chiefs to beat the Bills, and what happened, the Bills destroyed the Chiefs in Arrowhead. I could see the Bills doing it again, maybe not such a lopsided score, but a win by 10 points or more.
-
-The same could have been said with the Detroit Lions last year, but they finally made it. -Yes the LT position is a question mark right now, we all hope either Glenn or Hairston do well this season, but the O-line allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL, so I don't see how they make you nervous? -I'm surprised Fitz played with 2 cracked ribs after Fletcher buried the crown of his helmet into his sternum. After that, there's no questioning Fitz's toughness. QB coach David Lee was brought in to work with Fitz on his mechanics. Lee has worked with Pennington, Romo, and most recently Eli Manning last season (and look at how well Eli did). Only time will tell if Fitz can play good for a full season. -Fred Jackson had a broken leg, he didn't have torn muscles, tendons or cartilage. You're making Jackson's injury sound like Eric Wood's double compound fracture, which isn't the case here. Fred is a young 31 as he hasn't had the normal wear and tear of a RB his age. -As for the rest, we'll have to wait and see how the season unfolds. In regards to the Pats dominance, they only beat one team last season with a winning record, and that was in the AFC Championship game. IMO, the Pats got lucky as the Ravens had 2 costly gaffes that cost them the game. Sometimes, that's all you need is luck. Besides the Pats offense being good, their defense sucked last year, especially their secondary. The Pats aren't the unstoppable monsters that they used to be from the early-mid 2000's.
-
Great points!! I gringed when I heard Jauron say "It's hard to win in the NFL". I love the attitude Buddy & Chan has in that they both expect to win, not hope to win. I think Buddy has done a good job at getting good players, plus adding depth this offseason. Another thing that works in our favor, is since we finished last in our division in 2011, we play the other last place teams this season.
-
Up until the AFC Championship game, the Patriots did not beat a team with a winning record. A couple of gaffe's by the Ravens cost them their chance at the Superbowl. While the Pats offense was great last season, their defense, especially their secondary was terrible. I'm not taking the Pats lightly, but the Bills are catching up to them, and could surpass them in the AFC East this year.

While all the NFL prognosticators are saying the Bills improved in the offseason, most are saying the Bills could make it in the playoffs as a Wild card, while the rest are saying the Bills will miss the playoffs. Well, for all of those naysayers, watch this video from the NFL network: http://www.nfl.com/qs/top20games/2011/New-England-Patriots-at-Buffalo-Bills.jsp?module=HP11_hot_topics In the offseason, the Bills did the following: -Promoted Dave Wannstedt to Defensive Coordinator, (who is an A+ as an DC) -Signed an elite DE in Mario Williams -Signed a good pass rushing DE in Mark Anderson -Drafted Stephon Gilmore in the first round of the draft -Hired renowned QB coach David Lee to help Ryan Fitzpatrick work on the mechanics of his game Other notables: -Kyle Williams is healthy for the first time since his collegiate days -Shawne Merriman appears to be healthy for the first time in years The Giants showed in the Superbowl that a great pass rush is key to shutting down Tom Brady. I think the Bills copied that blueprint in the offseason, and the Bills D-line could possibly be better than the Giants (only time will tell on that). When you add all of that up, is there any doubt that the Bills can compete with the Patriots for the AFC East title this season?
-
"And he'll need to play big, because the rest of the defense will feed off how the line performs. It'll be tough for offenses to double-team Dareus because of Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Mark Anderson, and that could spell trouble for Tom Brady, Mark Sanchez and Ryan Fitzpatrick." Yeah, that's right, that could spell trouble for Ryan Fitzpatrick, so watch out!! I saw this listed "By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Blogger", and right away didn't take this guy seriously. With having Wannstedt as our DC, and our new D-line of MW, Dareus, KW & Anderson, that is only going to get the Bills one more win than last year?! Really?!

Some NFL experts considered him the best CB in the draft, so it just depends on who you listen/talk to. -
Former WR Josh Reed Slams Buffalo
Jerry Jabber replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh "Butterfingers" Reed. We used to sarcastically clap whenever he caught the ball, because of how many times he would drop it. Like others have said, if it wasn't for Buffalo, his NFL career would have lasted half the amount of time.
