Fitzmagic, more like Fitzpathetic
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know we didn't have a first round pick in 2005. If Donahoe wouldn't have made the trade with Dallas to draft Loseman, then the Bills would have had a first round pick in 2005, and would have been able to draft Aaron Rodgers. I never understood why Donahoe was in such a hurry to draft a QB. IMO, Fitzpathetic was a stop gap QB for the Bills while Boss Hogg & Cooter [Nix & Gailey] built up the rest of the team. Now it looks like Fitz is not even a good "Stop Gap" QB anymore. His performance on Sunday was more like a third string/practice squad QB, not a starter. -
http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2012/9/11/3316988/grading-the-bills-week-1 "Coaching: F Just like Fitzpatrick, if anyone deserves a lower grade than F, then that honor should be shared with Chan Gailey, Bruce DeHaven and Dave Wannstedt. The Bills looked like they were still in preseason mode. The Bills defense looked very vanilla, and barely brought any blitzes. Wannstedt did a very poor job of making changes throughout the game. Here are some post game quotes from Gailey: '“We need to tighten up our coverage which will help our pass rush,” why thank you, Captain Obvious! "This is a cliché and I understand it. It is one of sixteen and if you win enough, you get in the playoffs.” I have two problems with this quote. First off, Gailey has been preaching since day one as Bills HC that he doesn’t hope to win, he expects to win. So, now Gailey has either lowered his expectations, or has been blowing smoke up our collective butts. Second, while Sunday’s game was only one of 16, it was against a division rival [Jets], and the game is only one of six. Right now, the Bills are 0-1 in the AFC East. Last season, the Bills were 1-5 in the division. The better your win/loss record is in the division, the better the chances you’ll have of making the playoffs." I couldn't agree more. It might have been just one game, but it also happened to be a divisional game, and you only get six of those a year.

I agree. The Bills basically gave up 31 points to the Jets on Sunday, from 3 INT's 1 fumble, and 1 punt return for a TD. Everytime the offense turns it over, it's an opportunity for the opposing offense to score. -

Would the real refs please stand up...please stand up!! I would be pissed too, but like others have said, if this guy his punching you in the face, do it right back to him. -

I agree 100% I brought up that point about the D in another thread. Plus, the punt team gave up a 68 yard return for a TD. In essence, the Bills gave up 31 points to the Jets. -

I didn't like the Johnson signing from the get go. Johnson came off the bench and played great for 1 game, that wasn't enough to garner giving up a 1st & 4th round draft picks for him. Losman was Donahoe's brilliant idea (his drafts sucked!!) and gave up way too much for him. I don't know why Donahoe was in such a hurry to draft a QB. If he would have waited, Aaron Rodgers would have been there for us the following year. Bill Walsh recommended Edwards, and I would have done the same thing as Levy. If I was an NFL scout, I could give you a good idea on who to draft, but I'm not. While you listed a bunch of first round busts, you also failed to post successful 1st, 2nd & other round QB's. We all know the draft is a crap shoot, that's why you have to have excellent scout's to give you good evaluations on these players. -
Even if the Bills were to win the Superbowl, there would still be people complaining about something.

I don't follow college football so I'm not going to even try and take a stab at it. All I know is that there is at least one good QB in every draft (look at Sam Bradford the year he was drafted). Now who that QB is for the 2013 draft is beyond me? You're right the draft is a crapshoot, but Bills have not had a franchise QB since January 1997 (almost 16 years) and have missed the playoffs for 12 straight years (currently longest streak in the NFL) mainly due to that reason...coincedence? -
Bills DB's physically manhandled by Jets WR's
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. Wannstedt had to have known that the Jets were going to throw a lot of sideline & short passes, as well as having Sanchez take 3 step drops to counter the Bills defensive front 4, but yet Wannstedt did nothing to stop it. No stunts, no blitzes, and there looked like there was no halftime adjustments. -

Anyway you look at it, the DB's were absolutely terrible!!! -

I agree. Enough of not wanting to give up draft picks, trade up and get a real franchise QB. The Bills have not had a franchise QB since Jim Kelly, and he last played in January 1997. -
One thing I noticed a lot yesterday was that a big reason why the Jets WR's were able to get a lot of separation from our DB's was that they were physically dominating our DB's at the line of scrimmage. I don't know how many times I saw a Jets WR pound our DB's at the line of scrimmage and were easily able to gain separation. I know we have young DB's in Williams & Gilmore, but with having a supposedly proven DC in Wannstedt, I can't believe Wannstedt didn't get the DB's ready for that.

 You nailed it right on the head. The Chargers have been getting progressively worse since Marty was fired.

Plax has the same height as Nelson and is a good red zone target. Why not sign him for a year? -

That's a huge loss. IMO, the FO should sign a veteran FA (like Burress or Branch). -

Moorman played good when he faced competition [Powell} in preseason/training camp. Now that Powell is gone, there's no pressure on Moorman. -

 Loved this: "Unless Fitz suddenly prays to Jesus, Buddha, The Fonz, Chick Fil A, or whatever it is he worships" That's awesome!!! I agree with everything you said. The faster Boss Hogg & Cooter realize that Fitzpathetic is not the answer, the better the team will be. Sucks to be having this conversation already after Week 1. -

I'm starting to agree. I thought QB Coach David Lee Roth was suppose to help make him into a better QB by working on his mechanics? If DLR is such a great QB coach, then Boos Hogg [Nix] & Cooter [Gailey] can give Fitzpathetic the axe at the end of the season, draft a franchise QB and have Cooter & DLR develop the new guy. -
Bills gave the Jets 31 points
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look at it anyway you want. Anytime you turn the ball over, you're giving your opposition an opportunity, and the Jets capitalized on those opportunities. Punting to the middle of the field is just plain stupid. Moorman is considered to be a great punter, Dehaven is supposed to be a great Special Teams coach. Why didn't DeHaven have Moorman angle the punt towards the sideline? Sorry, but I disagree, bad decisions and poor tackling led to the Bills giving the Jets 7 points on that punt return. -
At this point, anyone of us would take Marty's playoff record, especially after how bad the Bills have sucked over the last 12 years.

Not blaimg the refs, just said it was a questionable call. 4 turnovers by the offense is inexcuable!! Most of the team & especially the coaches were incompetent yesterday. Trust me, I'm getting tired of this crap. -

I'm not making excuses, but from the replay it never looked like Spiller had full possession of the ball. Either way, Spiller needs to do a better job at ball security.
