Updated Beasley signing to practice squad
KOKBILLS replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really wish the weather forecast was better for Sat night...I hope we get lucky in that area...Because I really want to see the passing game...I'm curious...This is fascinating stuff.. The Bills Offense was rounding into an absolute buzz saw late last year...And Beasley was an important piece of that...He's probably heathier now...I have no idea what to expect, but it certainly can't hurt...Brady had his guys too...Josh and Beas have had a lot of success together... Let's see... -
That's fine...And very possible... But it still does not explain why Dane is on the field getting beat regularly in obvious passing situations...At this point is there a Bills fan alive that does not think Dane will be targeted on 3rd and long? I mean. I know it's not going to happen every time. And it's not like Hamlin has helped a ton. But it sure seems like it's Dane a high percentage of times when an Offense does convert...I can't find specific Defensive rankings on 3rd and 10 or more, but the Bills have the 17th ranked 3rd Down Defense...This is an area that has plenty of room for improvement. I realize CB is not the only problem. But it's hard to believe Elam is behind Dane in coverage. It's possible, but tough to believe...

This is just my opinion...I have not talked to anyone. Don't know anything on the inside. I just have hunches. I had a feeling the Bills might try what I think is going on here when Tre came back. But with Elam being a 1st Round pick, I doubted it would happen. Dane Jackson is LOVED by the coaching staff. He stepped in last year and played pretty well. I think McD and Frazier are going with the assumption that Dane is the #2 until someone beats him out. I don't really care that they're giving the perception of it still being a competition...It's not...At least up to this point. Look at how they handled Levi. They LOVED Levi in that locker room, and I think they love Dane similarly. They are going to need to see something that makes them believe it's a no-brainer if they're going to play Elam over Dane. Of course some will argue that has already happened...They may be right. BTW...I can't explain the week Rhodes started. I have no idea. But Dane was 1st in that week too. Anyway...The problem is, IMHO, they've waited too long already. If Dane truly was playing that well, and Elam had really struggled it would be one thing. But we're going into Week 15, and Elam needs to play. They need to see what he's got in coverage...ESPECIALLY on 3rd and long...For the life of me I don't understand why that kid is not on the field in obvious passing situations. With Tre back, this is the time to see. And Miami, weather permitting of course, is as good a time as any. Look...I doubt very much Hill or Waddle will beat Elam any more than Dane. But one is a 1st round caliber bigger, longer CB with ball skills...The other is Dane Jackson...We're 10-3. If we're at the level of fragility that chancing Elam over Jackson is a threat to winning, then we're not as good as we think we are anyway. Again, JMO... We'll see...

Orlovsky: Bills aren't as talented offensively as we thought

Agreed...They, generally, look WAY too sloppy... -

Honestly...I think a lot of folks...and that includes me while I'm yelling at my TV screen during games...are getting too far into the weeds on the Offensive issues. If I was to generalize, and I don't usually like to do that, I would say actual execution is the main issue on Offense. 1st drive Josh misses Diggs wide open. From what I could see he's got the single Safety to beat for 6...That's how open he was. Then Josh underthrows Smoke when he's got at least a step or two on the Rookie. Smoke still almost caught that ball. Then later on the McKenzie drop on 3rd down...Those 3 plays executed properly probably lead to a blowout yesterday. Regardless of anything else. McKenzie also had an earlier drop on a 3rd and long along the sidelines (the one he bobbled and dropped...It was a tough catch, but definitely a catchable ball for an NFL WR) that would have extended a drive. Dropped passes, missed blocks, errant passes, penalties...These are all solvable problems before we even get into talent and design. The Bills have clearly been the better team on the field EVERY Sunday...Even in the 3 losses. Execution, penalties, and mistakes have led these games to be closer than they should have been. That seems to be the most obvious point. I do think Dorsey needs to continue to work on scheming easy gains...But all in all we need to get back to that Playoff-level of execution more than anything. JMO... -
If I was an opposing coach I think I'd throw to wherever Jackson is on every play...

This is exactly correct... -
True...They had 2 INT's today and they could have had 6...How about the PI when our DB is looking back for the ball, sees it and it looks like he may have a play on it, then completely turns his back suddenly and runs right into Jefferson...It was mind boggling how bad they were today overall...

The upside is I'm sure there will be plenty of dancing videos from practice on Twitter next week...

I don't think it was selfish either...It was inexcusable lack of situational awareness...The need for hindsight literally means he was not properly Coached in that situation...If the Coaches did not warn them before that play to knock the f'ing ball down they are derelict in duty...You can't just instinct your way into a dumb decision like that if it's drilled into your head what the high probability play is...The INT does nothing there...Batting the ball away is ball game. If he made that great of an effort to catch the ball, it's actually easier to knock it away...As it was it took a miraculous effort by Jefferson, with the luck of the ball not hitting the ground as he fell because it looked like it came down on Lewis foot...That's how much luck it took...So the probability is near zero if the the second he sees the ball coming to him he knows to bat it tf down... It's completely inexcusable...But admittedly I'm pretty pissed right now... -
Exactly...I lost my voice screaming at that one... As bad luck would have it for Bills fans, the only way Jefferson has a chance to make that miracle catch and pull it down is because Lewis freezes the ball at that exact point trying to catch it...What an incredibly major blunder...

Teams need spectacular plays to beat us by 3

We know we're going to get teams best effort on most Sundays...When the Bills don't shoot themselves in the foot over and over again, they win easily... -
Poor coaching by McDermott is becoming a theme
KOKBILLS replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
If you watch KC they do a million things to get those quick, real easy 5-15 yard gains by design...That's how you help a great QB...When it's time to go deep you've carved them up with nickel and dime stuff...Makes it much easier. The Bills have struggled with this for a while now...Whether it's running, screens, short passes...It's always a mixed bag...And to top it off they lost their 3rd down security blanket in Beasley... That's a Coaching issue, and McD has to be held responsible for it because it's the most obvious way to help Josh and keep him focused-in down to down. -
100%...I know it's a split second thing...But the fact that he tried to catch that ball instead of just about anything else is the only reason Jefferson has a chance to make the miraculous play...Going for the catch kept the ball right there. It's a lack of understanding situational football...Knocking it away is actually better than the INT there...Ugh...Can't believe that happened...

Josh throwing that ball in that situation is just inexcusable...I love the kid...But that kind of decision making by your QB on 2nd down with plenty of time left is just mind-numbingly bad... -
