2nd time this game a Detroit DB has early contact through the back of a Bills WR with no call. I thought those were automatic?

Letting Goff get out of the pocket and limp his way for 10 years on 3rd and 10 is so very much this Defense...

It's the key downs that just eat this Defense up... I'm not sure what teams don't just skip to 3rd down...

2 premium chances to get off the field on that drive and they botched both

I've been saying basically the same thing for 3 years now. McD's stubbornness has it's strengths, but it also has it's weaknesses when you run into a hot offense every now and again that can pick apart the zones and has really good skill position players. I think Elam could be a major help at just breaking tendencies every now and again. And it would give teams more to worry about on tape. It's not like Elam has been void of production when he has played. But he's not a good ST's player so... I guess we sit the 1st Rd pick... Anyway...

He had a big year last year, teams are paying attention, the Bills and Ed have zero answer. I saw him get chipped by a back a couple times yesterday which is a little strange for a 3 tech... I did a double take the 1st time I saw it... I think teams are frustrating him big time. We all saw what the Ravens did to take advantage of his aggressive, up the field nature... Again, the Bills have little answer for it... Overall, this is who Ed is IMHO... I think 2023 was the outlier... Not this year... The Bills greatly...and I do mean greatly lack talent on the D-line. And of course it's catching up to them this year. It has every year. If they don't get a monster to play next to him, and another really good DE opposite Groot, this is basically what we're going to get out of Ed when he goes up against quality Offensive systems... Or any Offensive system for that matter. It is what it is. I'm so very tired of complaining about this D-line... I wrote a long post before the Cincy Playoff game about how this D-Line was going to have to step up because they constantly underachieve, and it really has not got much better since then. Sure they feed some games. But games like yesterday are just a product of this Bills and McD's system way too often. Completely shutout. Zero pressure. No one steps up. I can see it costing us a Playoff game already.

It was worse than awful...

I did not remember the blocked punt came right after that series with the missed deep pass to Mack... Ugh... You can see on that pass while it was a little short it also led Hollins inside a yard or two as well... I think even short if it stays on the line he was running or slightly outside it's 6... Just a matter of inches...

If you think the Bills have poured a lot of resources into the D-line before... Just wait for this off season...

The Bills will play better vs Detroit on Defense... And I think they'll play just as good on Offense. This game was a wake up call for the Defense. And tbh I think it was needed. They had been getting away with giving up yards and tightening up in the red zone too long. Don't get me wrong, they are still outmanned on the D-Line... But they are clearly going to have to shake it up on 3rd down a bit because that was so bad today it can't get much worse.

How can you be a member of this Defense, or this Defensive coaching staff and dare to look Josh in the eye the next 24 hours?

It certainly looks that way... When faced with a tough assignment...a really tough assignment... His D, and especially his D-Line, is just not good enough... Even still Josh will likely hide most of it in most games... Look how big one lousy stop on D was in this game... 2 stops in the 2nd half and we win... Even with the freaking blocked Punt...

The D-line is getting used.

Josh taking the blame for the other two phases has to be an all time great QB Presser after a loss... That could not have been easy...

We have massive problems on Defense if we come up against a team with a competent QB and a good, balanced, well coached Offense... The good news is there are not a lot of teams like that in this league. The Rams made some incredible plays in this game, no question. But it was 3rd down, after 3rd down, after 3rd down, and then 4th down given up on Defense... Just one after the other after the other... This was as bad a situational Defensive game as you can play. Stafford is a really good QB... But he's not Josh, so everything has to work right and in rhythm for that to happen... And boy did it for the Rams today... And that is a real problem going forward... 11 of 14 on 3rd down!!! Holy crap!!!

We got used on Defense and gave up a blocked punt for a TD... That's the game...
