Is Kolb Nix's Bridge to the 2014 QB Draft Class?
KOKBILLS replied to Wing Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think even if Lombardi is swayed slightly by what happened in Seattle, the reality is the Seahawks got a what appears to be a Top 10 caliber QB in the 3rd Round...The risk for Seattle was relatively low in comparison to the pick the Browns would have to use this year to bring in a QB that can compete with Weeden from day #1...Instead I think the Browns look towards a Matt Scott-like prospect in the 2nd or 3rd Round... -
While I really like this idea...And it is fun...I'm thinking the overall game is in need of a few minor tweaks...

Oh you're cracking me up today!!!

Possible Flynn trade to Raiders, Palmer to Cardinals
KOKBILLS replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you can all but lock-in Lane Johnson at #7...Assuming he's still there... -
That was fun!!! The trade aspect was crazy...And admittedly I got a little carried away trading down...OK a lot carried away...Also there were some prospects that I knew would not be there at the picks I took them (DJ Hayden is a great example)...But I love my Draft... Round 1 Pick 25 (MINN): EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State (D) Round 2 Pick 2 (S.F.): Robert Woods, WR, Southern California Round 2 Pick 6 (ARI): Matt Elam, SS, Florida (A) Round 2 Pick 9: Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame (A) Round 2 Pick 21 (CINN): Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford (A-) Round 3 Pick 9: Justin Pugh, OG, Syracuse © Round 3 Pick 10 (NYJ): Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU (B+) Round 3 Pick 21 (MINN): Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse (A) Round 4 Pick 8: Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas (D+) Round 4 Pick 9 (NYJ): Brandon Jenkins, OLB, Florida State (B) Round 5 Pick 10: Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech (A) Round 6 Pick 9: D.J. Hayden, CB, Houston (A)

2013 Bills' Season - Motto Contest
KOKBILLS replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing the Buffalo Bills have taught me over these years Bro...Never say it can't get worse... -
You can't plan on Drafting a better QB in 2014...You just can't...You can hope, but you can't plan... And by no means is this Draft class a bunch of crappy QB's...Yes there is no Luck, RGII, or Cam...Yes these prospects are all developmental in some way...But they all have talent to go along with their weaknesses...They are Coachable...And in the case of a few...Like Manuel and Geno...There are aspects of their game that are elite for a QB prospect...There is talent in this QB Draft class...It's just going to take good Coaching and the right situation to bring that talent out...Some will succeed, and some will fail...But one thing is certain...If you don't take one...You don't give yourself the chance of finding that diamond in the rough...There is all but zero chance of solving the long-range QB dilemma in Buffalo by taking one late, or not at all this Draft...All but none... Here's a scenario...The Bills don't draft a QB in 2013...The Bills suck next year with Kolb and TJax only at QB...But they manage to squeak out 4 wins...Problem is Jacksonville finishes with only 2 wins...The Jets only win 3 games...And another team only wins 4 games, but they Draft ahead of the Bills...So the Bills Draft 4th...Johnny Football, who will only be a Redshirt Sophomore in 2013, decides to return for one more chance at a National Championship at A&M...Bridgewater and McCarron come out...And the first three picks are Bridgewater, McCarron, and Clowney...The Bills pick 4th...4th!!! And they are left with what? Aaron Murray? David Fales? Logan Thomas? That's why you can't plan for these things...If the Bills Draft a QB in the first three Rounds this year, and they get a shot at Bridgewater, McCarron, or Manziel in 2014, they'll still likely take one of them...But taking a young developmental prospect this Draft, a prospect they believe in, will certainly give the Bills insurance in case the evil Gods don't line up against them and assure a terrible 2013 season... Lets not forget the Bills are not even considered the worst team in their Division right now...They have a decent O-Line, and two of the better RB's in the league...They have at least some talent on Defense, and a new DC who has a proven-recent track record...The assumption that they will be in position to get a truly elite QB in 2014 is premature at best...And I really don't care what anyone says about the 2014 QB Draft class...At this point right now there is a HUGE drop off after those top 3...And not a single one of those top 3 is a Sr next year...It's a complete and total crap-shoot right now to count on 2014 as the time to take a QB...The amount of things that would have to fall in place are staggering...Way, way, way too many variables... I'll give you this much...Waiting until 2014 to Draft a QB certainly sounds like an idea that Buddy would approve...But I would not take that as a compliment...Just saying...
-
So...You think no QB in this Draft has better 1-3 year potential than Kolb or TJax? We'll see...I respectfully disagree... Plus...To say the Bills don't need a QB based on the current depth chart? After what this team has been through since...well...at least recent memory at the QB position? That is, IMHO, quite a bold statement...And you can't plan on next year...Way, way, way too many variables...
-
There's too much buzz around Matt Scott for him to last till the 5th Round...I doubt very much he gets out of the early part of the 3rd...If that... And if the Bills were to wait until the 5th Round to Draft a QB I would seriously consider them to at least be in the argument for the dumbest Franchise in the history of the NFL...

Is Kolb Nix's Bridge to the 2014 QB Draft Class?
KOKBILLS replied to Wing Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm really trying to understand why any Bills fan, or NFL fan, would think that replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick with Kevin Kolb could result in the Bills changing their strategy about Drafting a QB...I just don't get that... Anyway... Nothing has changed...They simply grabbed insurance and depth with Kolb...That's all...I would be shocked if Buddy has changed his tune much since he all but promised the Bills would Draft a QB early in the 2013 Draft way back during the regular season...Scouting does not start at the Combine...If Nix thought there were Draftable QB's last year, he certainly should believe there are Draftable QB's now... Look...I'm already a HUGE fan of the potential 2014 QB class...I really like Teddy Bridgewater and AJ McCarron...Probably more than most...I think it's at least 50/50 that Manziel actually comes out...I only saw Johnny Football a couple of times last season...But to say I came across impressed...well...That's an understatement...I was thinking during A&M's Bowl game...Here's a Redshirt Freshman QB, and I would take him in Buffalo today...I really think that kid is fantastic... But all that aside, there is no way you can plan for anything in the NFL like that...Even if the Bills were to Trade Down and get an extra 1st Round pick in 2014 it would not assure them of getting any of those 3 QB's, assuming all 3 come out...The better the QB prospect, the more teams will be forced to Draft them...You could literally have a scenario where The Bills pick 4th overall and come out of it without one of the top 3 QB's in 2014 (of course Clowney would be a nice consolation prize in that instance)......If McCarron, Bridgewater, and Manziel were to only match their 2012 seasons, and they all come out, they could easily go 1, 2, 3...How many teams that finish with the worst 3 records in the league will not be looking to Draft a QB when you're talking about (what I think are) truly gifted prospects? With QB play more important than it's ever been...and it's always been pretty important...you can't plan to Draft one in the future effectively because there are 31 other teams that are either in need, or an injury away from being in need...It's just impossible to plan for...You can increase your odds by collecting extra picks in that Draft...But even then the odds are mostly dependent on your team stinking out loud...And to be honest, as bad as the Bills roster looks right now, I seriously doubt they'll do worse than 5-11... Plus on top of it all, I certainly don't think Buddy is smart enough to put forward any kind of master plan in order to land the #1, or #2, overall pick in 2014...Let's be serious dadgummit... -
Skill set? Maybe...Scott may actually be a better athlete than Brees... But we all know what Brees' game is...Sure he's a very good athlete...But it's between the ears, and in his heart mainly...And that is a comparison that cannot be made about Scott any time soon...He's going to have to play in the league a bit before anyone can come close to that kind of comparison...Brees has a feel for the game, competitive fire, and determination that is beyond elite... Not that it matters much on a Message Board...But I often think comparisons to players like Brees are the kiss of death for College prospects coming out...You want to talk about a hill to climb? Drew Brees? That's a mountain and a half...

Exactly...And poor trolling at that...

Or maybe that's exactly what the Bills want everyone to think... I think if it screams anything at all it's that the Bills feel if Geno is gone by #8 the rest of the QB's are more developmental prospects...And that the Bills prefer to have some insurance in case they trade out of #8 and get bit by it, or if they stay at #8 and take a QB who is definitely more of a project-type like EJ Manuel...That's all...But we'll see...
-
Agreed... If Buddy Nix has shown us anything about his Draft strategy (or lack thereof) it's that he believes in being true to his board, even where QB are concerned...Now, he has commented that he's learned his lesson about the fact that QB's elevate in the Draft...But still, there are basically no scouts, agencies, "experts," or anybody you can find commenting on this Draft, that have more than one of the QB's ranked in the Top 8 players...Most have NO QB's ranked in the Top 8...So...If the Bills are going to be true to their board, while still realizing they are going to have to over-draft a QB just a bit, a trade down in the 1st makes the most sense...Add to that the fact that Buddy spoke about getting more picks with the Tampa GM on the now famous phone call, and I think we can put two and two together here... I think it's common knowledge that Joeckel, Jordan, Fisher, Milliner, and Floyd are gone in the Top 7 picks for sure...That means at #8 between Lane Johnson, Star Lotulelei, and Geno Smith...One of them will be available for sure...There can be an argument made for the Bills staying at #8 and taking either Johnson or Smith...But in the case of Johnson being the player remaining I think the return could be very nice if the Bills decide to trade out of that pick... So the trade down possibility is real, and I think there is a lot of logic behind it...We'll see if that's the way they decide to go...

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
KOKBILLS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think so...IF this signing says anything about the Bills Draft strategy...and that's a BIG if...I think maybe they realize that most of these QB prospects are not plug-and-play types...Perhaps it says that the QB the Bills like best is going to be more of a project, like EJ Manuel for example...The Kolb signing gives the Bills insurance and better depth at the QB position...That's all...If the Bills don't understand that the most important position on the field deserves laser focus by now...well...Then there is truly no hope for this Franchise...And by signing Kolb, and Drafting a QB in the first few Rounds, I think the Bills are finally proving to all of us they get it... I still think it's a possibility the Bills take a QB at #8...Especially if Geno is available...I think this signing gives them some flexibility to trade down if they wish, get and extra pick or two, and still take a QB in the 1st like Manuel...If not, I still think they take a QB by no later than the 3rd Round...We'll see though...Going into the 2013 season with Kolb as the clear cut starting QB, with no Rookie to develop behind him, would prove to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that Buddy and the rest of them are completely inept...But maybe that's just me... -
Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
KOKBILLS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly... All the Kolb signing does is improve the Bills flexibility in this Draft, and give them some insurance...If the Bills don't Draft a QB in the 2013 Draft, at least within the first 3 Rounds, this team truly is as poorly run as I fear it may be...And I will personally show up at OBD...Torch and pitchfork in hand... -

KOKBILLS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From a pure Draft grade standpoint there will almost certainly be higher graded players than the QB's available at #8...Especially if Geno is gone...If the Bills are leveraging to be able to go elsewhere...away from QB at #8...There can be an argument made no question... I think the mention of LT makes sense because there is a possibility that a truly elite prospect LT will be available at #8 overall...Of all the possible targets at #8 I think Lane Johnson makes the most sense, in this Draft, if the Bills don't go QB...It's not that the Bills don't have bigger needs at LB, QB, and WR...They do...But in Lane Johnson (or Fisher if he's still there) the Bills can actually improve the O-Line, even though they lost Levitre...Plus they would have quite a nice pair of young bookend OT's for years to come...And like you said, this is the year for a pass if it goes down that way... -

KOKBILLS replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's a legit point...And part of the reason why I don't read too much into this signing...I don't mind it either...I think it gives the Bills insurance and at least a little added flexibility at Draft time...Kolb improves the competition at QB at least...If the Bills are looking at this Draft and thinking they can get a QB they like just as much at #41 as the QB they can get at #8, bringing in Kolb makes sense to me...Because waiting till your 2nd pick is not without risks...And in this Draft the QB you're going to get at #41 almost certainly will be a bit of a project...So I don't mind the Bills having a back-up plan... But long-term I don't see Kolb being anything more than a backup unless he can REALLY improve those sack numbers...No question about it... -

Oh boy Caplan... The Bills have Eric Pears and Chris Hairston at RT, but you're Drafting an OT to move Cordy inside? Why again? Because he played OG at Georgia (mostly as a Freshman and Sophomore)? But...He played LT in the NFL, as a Rookie 2nd Round pick no less, and more than held his own...Why move him inside? He's huge, long, and super athletic for a man his size...I think Cordy is a Pro Bowl level RT from day one... I'm not totally against the Bills Drafting OT in the 1st...And we're talking about Lane Johnson here I'm guessing...Joeckel and Fisher will likely be gone...There are some, like NFL Networks Danial Jeremiah, who feel Johnson could go in the Top 7 if the other two go in the Top 3... So...It's basically Johnson if he's there...I like Johnson a lot...He and Glenn would give the Bills a nice pair of bookends...I'm sure Marrone has a BIG say on this possibility...I'd still prefer the QB...But if we see Joeckel, Jordan, Fisher, Milliner, Floyd, Geno, and Ansah go Top 7...I think Johnson is a major possibility for the Bills...But in that scenario, I would look towards what the Bills are going to be willing to give up to get back into the bottom of the 1st...Because by the time it gets to #41 overall, I think the QB pickings will be slim...Well...Slimmer at least... Anyway...Cordy at LG? No thanks... -

We'll see... As a rabid Buffalo Bills fan I don't see how signing Kolb changes anything other than giving The Bills better depth at the position, and maybe some insurance in case there is a run on QB's from 1-7...Other than that...I don't see this as a Draft related move whatsoever... But I could be wrong...Buddy is still the GM after all... -
Like Charles Davis said the other day on NFL Network...Russell Wilson was a 1st Round QB in every evaluation possible based on his abilities...He slid to the 3rd Round for one reason, and one reason only...His height...Period...If he was 6-2 or better Wilson may not have lasted till Miami at #8 overall...But he would have gone no lower, that's for sure...
