who thinks we will go OT in the 1st round
KOKBILLS replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it's hype at all considering these 3 OT's in comparison to Joeckel and Fisher...Hype only works on the uneducated and unstudied...I think all 3 are better prospects, especially Robinson who I believe will end up being the best player from this Draft and an absolute monster at the NFL level...Matthews and Lewan are closer to the two OT's last year...But Matthews is clearly more polished, and Lewan has better upside...I agree that Lewan needs the most work...But he's got some really, really good film too...and great athletic ability...Lewan's athletic ability and size is absolutely elite for an LT prospect...I think he can easily be as good if not better than Nate Solder...There were plenty of scouts last year saying Joeckel was not even the best O-Lineman on his team...It's Matthews they were referring to...It's not hype on these 3...They are legit prospects and I think it's easy to imagine all three pushing Fisher and Joeckel down a few spots...... -
Wow...I can't believe Jeremy said that because he's a pretty major follower of this team...I can't see how any Bills fan would not be at least a little interested in this story if it's all true...I think the die-hard fans, like the one's that listen to sports talk radio, would be ultra-interested...I know I'm a bit more fanatical than most Bills fans...To me this is an absolutely HUGE story...Again if in fact it is true...I think it strikes at the heart of what many Bills fans fear most about this organization...That it's permanently mired in the corporate mediocrity created by it's owner years ago...And that it's that mediocrity keeping the Bills from fielding a winning team, and building a culture of excellence...But maybe that's just me...

If I had my choice I would go with Evans as well...Though I'll be fine with Lewan, Matthews, or even Ebron... I agree that Evans is a similar prospect to Alshon Jeffery in that he has great size, wing span, and hands...Like Jeffery, Evans is not a finished product and will need a little work...But once he gets coached up and comfortable you just can't teach what Evans has naturally...And Evans is already pretty good at the one single thing every NFL WR HAS to be able to do...He has the ability to come down with the contested ball in tight coverage...You can't teach that skill, and he's got it going in...I think, like Jeffery, he'll be just fine... I should also point out I've been a HUGE Alshon Jeffery fan since his Freshman year at USC...I was pushing him to the Bills HARD right here on TSW before the 2012 Draft...I would have taken him at #10 overall ahead of Gilmore...Nothing against Gilmore...I just felt that Jeffrey would be a dominant NFL WR in time...Just like he was in College...

If anyone did move into the top 8 my guess would be it's Gilbert... He's going to be the top rated CB, and he's a real solid prospect with good size, speed, athleticism, instincts, etc...IF a team decides they want a potential shut down CB Gilbert could certainly move up a few spots and land in the top 8...

I love how Mayock gets pissed when they spend too much time talking about one prospect, or when they talk too much about non-football issues...It's cool...The guy is old school football through and through...No question he's the best in the business right now...Which shows how hard it is to be right most of the time because Mayock has had his share of missing too...

who thinks we will go OT in the 1st round
KOKBILLS replied to Braedenstearns's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just don'ft think there is any way to ignore the fact that all three of the top OT's are considered better prospects than the kid that went #1 overall last year...I realize that goes for a few other prospects in this Draft at other positions as well...But if you're considering an OT, these guys may be too good to pass up... -
Not really... Great Blue North had him rated #67 overall...CBS.com had him at #110 overall...National Football Post had him at #102...etc... Now...He's going to drop a bit due to his workouts...But going into the Combine he was considered a 3rd-5th Rd prospect...

I think you make good points...But assuming Watkins is gone, which I think is at least a decent assumption...what then? My feeling is the Bills should gamble on greatness with Evans if that happens...But I have to admit I would be OK with Ebron, Matthews, or Lewan as well...I do agree O-Line can be had easier throughout the Draft...But I also think in Lewan and Matthews you are looking at 2 players that easily could have gone #1 overall last year...They are unquestionably elite prospects talent-wise at their position...Plus...Lets face it...Like it or not we have an ex NFL O-Lineman, and ex NFL O-Line coach, as a HC who is determined to run the ball more than any team in the NFL...That's his MO, and I don't think for a second he's going to back away from it...So I'm guessing if Watkins is gone he's going to be banging that table really hard for whatever OT is still around at #9... We can discuss all day what the proper strategy is...And we will...But the reality is Marrone is the HC and has a vision for this Offense...And more than anything, whatever that vision may be, it will determine how they use that pick at #9...My guess is he will want the OT...But maybe he surprises me...The only thing I think I know for certain is that it will be one of the top rated Offensive players...I doubt any Defensive player will tempt him and Whaley outside of Mack...And I still think in the end they will pass on Mack for Lewan, Matthews, Ebron, or Evans...We'll see though...This should be pretty interesting no matter what...
-
Agreed...And though it's unlikely, it is possible...Mack would be hard to pass at that point...But I still think, based on need and overall grade, Lewan, Evans, and Ebron would still be in play even if Mack was there...That would leave the Bills with one heck of a tough decision...
-
The good news is I don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell Evans makes it to #18 overall...Of course the Jets could always trade up... At #18 they'll be looking at Marqise Lee or Kelvin Benjamin...And maybe Ebron if he slides a bit...

Jairus Byrd [was Jarius Byrd]
KOKBILLS replied to Iowabillsfan4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya...He's as good as tagged...But I guessing we all knew that... I do think they will try to move him...Hopefully they will get creative and look at all the options...I've been saying forever and a day they won't be able to get more than a 2nd for Byrd...But maybe they can swing a deal and get a good player in return instead...They resurrected Jerry Hughes career...There has to be a way to move Byrd and come out with something decent if teams are unwilling to give up higher Draft picks... -

That hurt my eyes... I think I have a lawsuit here... -
I agree...Mack projects just about anywhere...He's a 3-down LB with great skills... Though I think there is basically no chance the Bills go Defense in the 1st round, if they did, I would certainly hope it's Mack...

Let's wait til the 2nd for a WR...

Haha!!! No worries...I was just confused... -
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there is much of a chance The Bills go Defense in Round #1...I'd put the chances at about 5% right now after seeing the top talent on Offense the past two Combine days...I'm uncertain whether they will go OT, WR, or Ebron...But I don't think it will be a Defensive player...In fact I would be absolutely shocked if they went Defense in the 1st round...They want to get as much talent around EJ as they possibly can...Just listen to what is coming out of Marrone, Whaley, and the media machine at OBD, and read between the lines...It will be Offense in the 1st...And probably the 2nd as well...

Huh?... I was responding to the question asking why Bryant's stats were lacking at Clemson...And my guess is they were lacking because he played the same position as Watkins and Hopkins at the same school... -
Sam likely dreams he had Maybin's athletic ability...Maybin was a decent athlete with great size for a 3-4 OLB...He simply was not a very good football player...Sam is a decent football player but he's stiff in the hips, not very fast, and not very explosive...He was considered a mid round pick before the Combine and all the other stuff...This performance today will further push him down...I'm guessing he's borderline draftable at this point...

I'm guessing sharing the field with Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins had a lot to do with it... They will... -
Oh I would... And again it's nothing against the kid who may very well become a heck of an NFL player... To me that would be no different than Drafting Spiller when you already have Lynch and Jackson...It's just not the way to build a team IMHO...It would be D-line building, not team building...

Maybe so...But even if he elevates he not coming to Buffalo...I'd just about bet my life on it...
