Not excited at all...We are forced to sit our #1 pick from last year because he's not getting the job done at QB, and we don't have a #1 next year...Plus I have my doubts about Orton long-term...Short term he should be a slight improvement...But enough to be a difference? We'll see... Plus I kind of feel bad for EJ...He's really a good kid...He just can't get the accuracy thing right...And unless he fixes that he's all but done in this league...

That's cool...Go ahead and assume he's going to return to form after 2 NFL teams gave up on him and the Cowboys did not want to pay him what he felt he was worth to be a back-up for a QB coming off back surgery... What every works for you... And I'm not saying Orton would not be a better option than EJ right now...I'm only saying he's a career 79.9 QB...So don't get your hopes up... And BTW, I said if he reverts back to the 2009-2010 form he's definitely an upgrade from EJ...So I'm uncertain why you even bothered with this post...

"Throw may have sailed b/c EJ was hit by Watt at the release. But illegal hands down-field def could have been called. Refs will miss some." @ChrisTrapasso This kind of glossing over stuff just frustrates me to no end... "Refs will miss some..." OK...sure...But on the intended receiver? When it was that blatant...I mean...There's illegal contact, and then there is "I'm going to continuously push your back shoulder WELL past 5 yards to re-route you, then run into you with both hands and body guard you with my back to the ball..." I get it that calls are missed...I really do...I also get that historically refs let some stuff go late in games...But when you have the NFL's VP of officiating going around in preseason warning teams they are going to call the illegal contact the same in every game this year?...When you have the NFL basically go on a campaign to point out that this is a point of emphasis? Then you see something like this...You just have to wonder...WTF is going on?...It's a stinking 5 yard penalty and a 1st down...But on this play the non-call nullified any chance the Bills had to pull the game out because the play resulted in an INT...It was the easiest call that ref had to make all game...And supposedly there is one ref assigned to every eligible receiver on every play... And before any of you "devils's advocates for the sake of devils advocacy" chime in I'm not saying this was the difference in the game, or that it's the reason the Bills lost, or that it's an excuse for them losing, or any of that crap...It's about getting the freaking call right on something that was obviously blatant and is supposed to be a point of emphasis...This was not borderline...There is no one on this earth that understands the rules of football that will say it was not illegal contact...The Defender chose to initiate the contact beyond the 5 yard limit when he could have just as easily turned and ran with Woods...He pushes Woods shoulder not once but 3 times during the route, then he briefly puts two hands on Woods when Robert starts to go up to make a play on the ball...All the while with his back turned to the QB and the ball in the air...It could not possibly be more apparent that this is illegal contact...That's all I'm saying... "Miss some?" Ya...I guess so...

Like EJ or not the bolded statement could not possibly be farther from the truth...

He may not be great, but he's a leader and I miss him

The key to that non-call was EJ moving quickly to get just outside of the tackle box when he saw Watt break through...It was actually a heads up play by EJ...When I saw it live I was waiting for the flag...But the replay showed he quickly broke to his right and chucked it beyond the line of scrimmage as soon as he cleared the OT...It was VERY close though... -
I'm pretty much in agreement with this take... Outside of 2009-2010 in Denver Orton has been pretty pedestrian...In fact if you remove those two years from his career he's 42 TD's to 38 INT's...56.8% completions in 1226 attempts...Not exactly the kind of QB that is going to lead you to the promised land... Now...If he can revert to the way he played in those two years in Denver then he's unquestionably an upgrade to EJ...But you have to wonder...The Bears and Broncos both gave up on the guy as a starter...I think as a back-up he's probably one of the better 2nd QB's in the league...Other than that I'm not so sure...

EJ is not Wilson...Not even close... EJ has two main issues right now... Accuracy is the #1 issue...He's high, low, left, right...But rarely on time and in stride...He does however choose the proper receiver often, and reads Defenses better than most QB's with his experience...He has a very good grasp on this Offense and where he should be going with the ball...But it matters not when the ball is not on the money...The 3rd down pass to Woods that was behind him on his back shoulder yesterday, and the pass to Sammy when he was WIDE open are perfect examples...He's got to be on the money with those...And he's generally not... The #2 issue is the way he breaks down under pressure...And in EJ's defense he's been under a TON of pressure these past two games...But he's terribly inaccurate when he's under pressure...And even though he's got escape-ability he's not hurting Defenses with his legs at all...Something Wilson does with regularity and with great results...

Agreed on all points...

When does this franchise finally turn the corner?

It's coming...I don't think there is any way Marrone makes it past this season...These last two games were so winnable...SD all but begged the Bills to come back last week...This week we blow a 10 point lead against a team that is average at best, with Fitz at QB...Regardless of anything else excuse-wise including EJ, Marrone has not managed to get this team to take the next step...The Bills either turn it around now or Marrone is dead man walking... -

Thanks for that vine 26...I'm blasting it everywhere I can... And I totally agree about it being worse than I thought it was...I saw the contact live so I knew it was a penalty...But it was worse than I thought... On August 18th Dean Blandino was quoted on Peter King's MMQB..."We're not going to change how we're calling the games once the regular season starts...'' OK Dean...What say you now?... Anyone have Blandino's email? -

It looked like he got out of the tackle box and threw the ball beyond the LOS... It was close though... -

Exactly... Just call the freaking game the way it's supposed to be called... But when it's as blatant as this was on something that the NFL has basically screamed is a point of emphasis since the first play of pre season... I don't know... What exactly are Bills fans supposed to think is going on? -

I guess this was totally thrown out the window on that last play...http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/08/19/5116515/nfl-going-to-extremes-to-enforce.html#.VChzavldV8E -

That may be true... But you can't tell me that was not textbook illegal contact on that final play...Because it was...Textbook...Contact beyond the 1st 5 yards with the QB still in the pocket...But the Texans DB took it one step further and went with constant contact beyond 5 yards...The only time he was not re-routing Woods was in the first 5 yards... And this is supposedly a point of emphasis in the NFL this year? Not when the Bills are trying to win on the road apparently... -

This is mind-numbing to me...Ever since pre-season game #1 we have been hearing about this illegal contact...We've seen it called every game and the Bills have been called for it constantly...The DB is re-routing Woods the whole play...the only time the DB did not have his hands on Woods was the first freaking 5 yards where he's allowed to...This is what it's like to be a Bills fan...I swear I'm in shock right now...I'm not saying they would have punched it in and won the game or anything like that...I am seriously sitting here in shock that a flag was not thrown on that play...I just can't believe it... -

The DB is bumping Woods the whole way down the field...WELL past 5 yards...It was a lousy pass by EJ...But is that not the EXACT kind of contact that is being called now? I don't know? Am I wrong? -

The Bills had their chance to put this one away early...It's no surprise it's getting harder now...You're not going to get all the bounces...If you don't take advantage when you have the chances early this is what happens... -

I don't want to hear the word Playoffs out of anyone's mouth on this team if they can't pull this game out...If you can't beat this team today...You're going nowhere...
