Totally agree with this take... Using the Value Chart as guide the Bills...And yes I know it's only a guide...A close to even value trade would be Cleveland giving up #4 and #145 (5th), for the Bills #9, and #41...But then when you throw Johnson into the equation even that is too much for the Bills to give up...Stevie is at worst our 3rd WR, and it can be argued he's our best WR...He's had 3700 yds the past 4 years combined...He has value...Especially to a team like Cleveland...I think Stevie is worth at least Cleveland's second 3rd round pick (#83 overall)...So to me at least it would have to be #9, #41, and Stevie in return for #4, #83, and #145...Even then I don't love the trade...But at least it would be fairer...
-
Agreed...It's too lopsided... If it was Stevie and the Bills 3rd or 4th then I would be OK with it...But I have the distinct feeling that a couple years down the road when we see what was available at #41 this will look like a terrible idea...I've messed around with a bunch of these simulations this year using all kids of different big boards...And every time I simulated a Draft for the Bills I was shocked at the names I could choose from that slipped through to #41...Kiko went #46 overall last year in a Draft that everyone and their mother agrees was a MUCH thinner talent pool when compared to this year...I just don't see how it's possible that Sammie Watkins can be worth whoever we can get at #9 and #41 combined...There's just no way in my mind...Furthermore I would MUCH rather trade down and pick up another 2nd because the depth in this Draft is so good...
-
No...I hate it because this is a 6-10 team giving up a 2nd round pick in what is considered to be the deepest Draft in a decade...I would not give up #41 for anyone in this Draft, and least of all a Defensive player...Because it's my personal belief that what you can get at #9 plus what you can get at #41 is going to be better than any single player you can trade up for...And I'm rarely as confident in things as I am about that this year...This would be stupid IMHO...
-
If true I would obviously welcome Watkins, but I'll also go on record against this deal because giving up a 2nd Round pick in this Draft is dumb, stupid, ill-advised, and...did I say dumb yet? The deepest Draft in recent memory and we are going to give up #41? Ugh...I HATE that idea...Hate, hate, hate it...

Would you trade two 1st round picks for Tony Romo?
KOKBILLS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Romo is 34 years old and coming off back surgery...The minute he loses his mobility his career is done...That day is near...If the Cowboys wanted to come up to #9 and trade Romo, with that massive contract, they would still have to GIVE me something...Like their 3rd this year, or their 2nd next...To be honest I have zero interest in Romo...Good grief...are we not jinxed enough? -
Houston looking to trade 1st pick (Buffalo?)

Not if we trade up it won't... -
Amen to that!!!

If they wait to Draft a QB then they have to be OK internally with either A. The possibility that Manziel, Bortles, and Carr will be gone by #26...Maybe even Bridgewater too... Or... B. They are prepared to move back up from #26 to get their guy...And the second option does not come without risk...If Oakland, Minnesota, Tampa, and Tennessee all decide they want a QB Cleveland likely gets left out in the cold...I know that's a long-shot...But they have to be prepared for everything... Too much can happen between #4 and #26...There are a ton of unknowns...It's a major risk for Cleveland to wait unless internally they are OK with any of the top 4 QB's, or if they like one of the 2nd tier guys equally...

Houston looking to trade 1st pick (Buffalo?)
KOKBILLS replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well...It will almost assuredly cost us at least our 3rd this year to move up...Probably our second... But I completely agree with this take...There is no way I would give up #41 to move up for anybody this year because I believe what you can get at #9 and # 41 this year (in a real deep Draft) will be better than any single prospect you can get with a trade up... Except maybe Greg Robinson...I love Greg Robinson... -
This is the exact reason Mayock changes his top 5 at each position so often...He's tapped in and teams trust him with info...a lot...He's very, very close to Belichick for example...If he's hearing enough he's going to adjust his board accordingly...Mayock was the first one to elevate EJ Manuel to the #2 QB overall last year...That was not coincidence, and it definitely was not due solely to his film study of EJ...He knew there were teams that really liked EJ, and he probably knew Buffalo was one of them...So he elevated EJ... So anyway...I agree...They know more if only for the reason that they talk to people off-the-record a lot with the promise of anonymity...

Houston looking to trade 1st pick (Buffalo?)
KOKBILLS replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want nothing to do with Barr...He's not a a fit for a 4-3...He's not a DE in a 4-3, and he's definitely not a LB in a 4-3...He may fill out one day into a 4-3 end...We'll see...But right now he's too light and not nearly strong enough...Teams will run right at him and he would be a huge liability in our Defense IMHO... But if he goes to a traditional 3-4 team like the Ravens or Steelers he could be special if he continues to work hard and get stronger at the point of attack... -
7 Elite Prospects in the Draft

My shock would be more due to the fact that I think the Bills, and especially Whaley, love Ebron...I just get the feeling they are enamored with the kid... As far as talent to talent goes it definitely would not surprise me...I realize Martin is a solid player...Though I'm of the mind that he will be a much better OG than OT in the NFL...This is not a Cordy Glenn-type situation...Glenn has amazing length to go along with his athletic ability...I think Martin is going to struggle a bit with NFL edge rushers...But move him inside and he'll be a Pro-Bowler for years... -

True...I was mostly trying to be funny... -
Right... I just keep hearing that...basically...it's going to be Haslam's call...That he's going to take in all the information and if he agrees with the new GM and the Scouts fine...he'll let them handle it...But if he wants one of the QB's, and the GM, scouts, or coaches are against it...It's tough luck...They're taking the QB...
-
Pettine will have input...But from everything I've read, in the end, this will be a decision made by the owner first with an assist by the GM...Haslam is very involved in this...

I would be shocked...Like floored shocked...if the Bills took Martin over Ebron... -
Agreed... Charles Davis has been saying for a while now that some teams he speaks with have Carr ahead of the other QB's...Not saying he should be ahead of them...Just saying... And the thing about passing and waiting is this...Folks want to point to last year with EJ...Or in past years with teams trading back up into the 1st...Or even with the Kap/Dalton year...But there is one key difference this year...And that difference is that most teams likely have at least 3, if not all 4 of these top QB's with a 1st round grade...Now it may not be top 10, but it's still 1st round...Meaning if you mess around and wait you could easily get left out...Teams like Dallas and Arizona come in to play...There are a ton of unknowns if you pass... Point being...QB needy teams in the top 10 who pass on a QB do so at the risk of completely missing out on the guy they want...That's why they usually go ahead and take the QB higher than he may be graded...They don't want to risk missing out on the guy that is the top guy on their board at the most important position in the NFL when they basically have nothing in house...All these "elite" prospect DE's, and OT's, and WR's are never going to have the impact a QB will if in fact that QB pans out...It's a risk, no question...But a risk worth taking because if you're right the reward is substantial... This is not to say that the Browns will take Carr at #4 because I have no idea...To be honest I kind of doubt it...But if they did I would not be surprised at all...They need a QB...They have two 1st round picks...If Carr is their top QB why not take him there?
-
True or not...It would be magnificent...

7 Elite Prospects in the Draft
KOKBILLS replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right...You do it at #4 like Philly did last year... -
It is indeed a nightmare scenario...The only thing is I think getting Ebron into that top 8 instead of at least one of the QB's is a bit of a long-shot...Just too many teams with QB needs and TE is not a priority need for anyone outside of Atlanta...And they pick 6th...I guess if the top 5 is Clowney, Mack, Matthews, Lewan, and Robinson, Atlanta could look towards Ebron...But that's the only way that it works...I think if the QB's slide out of the top 8 then it's more likely Ebron will end up being the pick by default...But we'll see...All it takes is for one or two of these teams, even the teams in the vicinity of the top 10 (like Tennessee), to get a little antsy for one of the QB's and this scenario goes away quick... It depends on the OT...Robinson would certainly not be a waste...But that's not going to happen...And if it's Martin I pretty much agree... I tend to agree...I don't see any way they would take Martin over Donald, Mosley, or Clinton-Dix...I know they would prefer not to Draft Defense in the 1st...But if that's the way the Draft falls, and Whaley is being honest, then you have to take the better player...And I think all 3 of those guys are better prospects than Martin overall...

There are only two players worth trading UP for......
KOKBILLS replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd take Robinson over any prospect in a trade up...Including Clowney...I think he's the best prospect in this Draft and would give the Bills an absolute mauler on the right side...He and Glenn would be the best bookends in the NFL...CJ and Freddie would thrive and EJ would get more time...I just think Robinson is beyond special...He's huge, he's got raw power that is super rare, he's a heck of an athlete, and he's just scratching the surface of how good he can be...His upside is limitless... -
I like Matthews...If the Bills only have to trade up a spot or two to get him I'm not opposed...But to be honest...If the Rams take Matthews over Robinson they're insane... IMHO, Robinson is a MUCH better prospect...It's been my feeling for a long time now that Robinson is the #1 prospect in this Draft...I would take him ahead of Clowney all day...I think he's got Orlando Pace potential...
