By game 16 Jauron will have ruined Byrd
Paup 1995MVP replied to Niagara Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This whole argument is stupid because we have lousy QB play, AND poor O line play most of the time. Our OT's are the worst pass blocking pair of tackles in the league bar none. That being said, I agree that a good QB will make up for bad O line play most of the time. Trent has decent time on a lot of plays and is afraid to throw down the field. Simple as that. He doesn't have the stones to be an NFL starter. We can be a very good team with a good QB and a mediocre O line. We can not be a very good team with a good O line and a mediocre to poor QB. -
Brutal truth from Inside Slant
Paup 1995MVP replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He very well may be that bad. You realize how bad we are when you watch other teams such as the Falcons and Saints move the ball up and down the field all game long. Even Denver with Kyle Orton on the field has a purpose as to what they are trying to do on each and every play and series. Sure we have a very poor offensive line, but a good coaching staff would still game plan to protect our weaknesses and run a competent scheme. We have lots of playmakers who are tremendously underutilized on a weekly basis. And notice that in any close game that we are winning late, Dick goes ultra conservative to make it as difficult as possible to put the game away. Our offense has no clue about playing with any sense of urgency. And I don't think AVP could even gameplan for a high school offense at this point. I think TE could be SERIOUSLY injured against the Titans. We will probably make their defense look dominant. Worst of all, I don't think the players even care anymore, especially on offense. I believe they are all just waiting for DJ to get the ax. They are given no direction and they know it. They are not stupid. -
Poz is consistently being exposed.
Paup 1995MVP replied to PushthePile's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Poz sucks. I said it previously and I will continue to say so now. Poz rarely dominates a collision when he is making a tackle. He always kind of holds on, and kind of rides the man to the ground 2-3 yards up the field. The Texans had absolutely gaping holes to run thru up the middle in the second half. That is inexcusable. Poz has a lot of responsibility for that. That is his territory. He does not dominate or impose his will. His game is WEAK!! We can and have to do better at MLB. Poz would be a decent backup where maybe he could learn how to become a good player. Our linebackers have to be amongst the worst if not the absolute worst group of LB's in the league. LB is a super important position on your defense. They provide a strong sense of toughness. We do NOT have that at all. It makes our team weak. The talent level on this team is just terrible at certain positions-LB, OT, QB, TE and not great at most other positions. Combine that with terrible, uninspiring coaching and leadership, and you have a god awful, boring, crappy team which is painful to watch. -
Kasper, I totally agree. The game was a total disaster. At times we look like the absolute worst team in the league. Take away what Jarius Byrd has done the past few weeks and this team is 1-7. I have been watching football religously for almost 35 years and have not missed one Bills game since 1994. I consider myself as knowledgeable as anyone about the game. And I can say that this team especially the offense is just God AWFUL. We have scored 66 points in the past 6 games. Take away the fake field goal against the Saints, the garbage time touchdown against Miami, the seven yard drive against the Panthers, and you have 45 points in the past 6 games. That is just unheard of. We have had a lot of bad OC's in the past decade, but can anyone say that AVP is not the worst? Down 24-10, we run three straight times. What happened to passing DOWN the field? To lose to the Texans by three TD's at home. This team is HORRIBLE. We have regressed unconscionably under Jauron. His first year in 2006 with JP, at least there was hope. After the performance today coupled with the Cleveland game, DJ should be fired IMMEDIATELY. No questions asked. The stench around this team is unbearable.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Paup 1995MVP replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bill, I usually value what you have to say. But to say that Poz played well is just nonsense. He is ALWAYS out of position, or getting run over by an O lineman. The guy is not good. He is stiff, slow and not athletic. He should not be starting in the NFL. Nic Harris will be a better player than Poz by next season. -
interesting NYT article re: the MLB position
Paup 1995MVP replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is an interesting article. I watched the 30 minute replay of Sunday's game last nite on Direct TV. (an unbelievable concept-well worth the money to replay any game) I tried to focus on what Poz was doing on each play. The guy is OK. He doesn't suck, but he definitely does not dominate the game. From what I could see, he has good instincts on where the play is going, but he is not big and powerful, and he is definitely not overly fast. (kind of reminds me of John Holocek, but with less power and a little more quickness-nowhere near as good a player as Shane Conlan was in his prime though) When he was able to avoid big O lineman leading the play he is effective. But he is nowhere near powerful enough to take on charging O lineman. He was knocked flying on several plays by Carolina lineman. He is what he is-a decent player who I don't think is someone who will ever be a star player. Given his injury history, I am not sure we would want to give him a lucrative extension in the future. -
Texans defense is nowhere near as good as the Jets or Panthers. Fitzie is going to have a big day. Watch his demeanor. The guy believes he should be starting, and believes he is a winner. His attitude is contagious to the whole team. I think we get a big rush on Schaub. He is good, but has no mobility. Texans do not play much in bad weather. I say they get intimidated by the Ralph environment. This is a message sending game for the Bills. I have that feeling that the players have weathered the storm and are coming together. Winning two in a row on the road is huge for confidence. If I am in Vegas, all over the Bills getting 3 and a half. We win Sunday, it is a whole new season boys. Can we win six more in a row heading into the Pats game before Christmas? 9-4 is not an impossibility. Fitzie is bringing the magic. He knows this is his chance to shine. Some guys rise to the occassion. This is his time. We shall see.
-
Schaub is a statue in the pocket. The key will be to hurry him into mistakes. A strong pass rush will be the key. There defense is mediocre at best. Alex Smith had a field day in the second half and almost beat them yesterday. We are playing with confidence. I like the matchup. We will need to bracket Owen Daniels all over the field. He is a stud. Lots of blitzes and Schaub is going DOWN!!!

Trent ruled out for week 8
Paup 1995MVP replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do you want Trent coming back to play at all? The team is rallying around Fitz. He is not a stud passing the ball, but he is serviceable. (He has made some plays that NFL QB's are supposed to make) More importantly, he is a leader on the field. He has some qualities that have not been seen at the QB position for us in quite some time. I would be happy with him leading our team the rest of the year. Looking at the schedule, no reason we can not be 6-4 with Miami coming to town in a month. It is very possible. -
I totally forgot about Fitzpatrick's
Paup 1995MVP replied to murra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was in Vegas watching that game. Put a bunch of money on the Rams, and was just going crazy when they came back and won in OT. The best thing about Fitz is that he is not AFRAID to throw it DOWN the field. I am excited to watch him play. There is always hope with a new guy. How excited would everyone on this board be if we are 4-4 going into the bye? -
Could Fitz actually save DJ's job?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You must have rocks in your head. I watched the game on NFL replay in 30 minutes last nite. (much easier to focus on the nuances of the game when you have already seen the game once) Edwards is NOT our best option at QB. He almost never looks to throw down the field. Everything is a check down. Fitz did not play great, but he made plays when he had to. Looks much more comfortable on the field, and has a whole lot more confidence on where and when to throw the ball. He is not AFRAID!!! Edwards is. Biggest difference. The offense knows that, and played with much more confidence with Fitz leading them. I will agree that Jauron does SUCK!! Way too conservative with the playcalling whenever we have a chance to win. This is his biggest fault. He does have us ready to play though, but the talent level is just so weak in our front seven on defense. Unbelievable how we get pushed around. Even Marcus Stroud. Need some big tough guys up front. -
The problem with our team is that a lot of guys SUCK. If we cut Roscoe, we sure as hell should cut Keith Ellison as well.

Trent Edwards? Accurate?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Robert Paulson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have got to be kidding. Trent is horribly inaccurate with his passes. Fitz steps into his throws with much more authority. We absolutely do NOT win against the Jets with TE at QB. He completely refuses to throw anything down the field except the rainbow overthrow deep ball down the sidelines. Fitz at least understands how to play QB in the NFL. He is not great, but don't you feel that we at least had a chance with him? -
So... maybe Edwards is the problem?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the Bills, but I was happy as a lark when Edwards got injured. And so was my wife and three kids. I sincerely hope that he never plays another down for us. Why was he our starter going into this season anyways? He has nothing. At least Fitzie has a feel for the game. If Fitzie had been starting all season, we would be 4-2. We beat the Browns and either NE or NO. Simple as that. Edwards sucks. Please keep him on the bench. -
And Edwards is much better? I think not. I haven't seen too many worse than Trent. And definitely noone who plays as scared as him. What makes our team so poor is that we have not just sucked recently, but have sucked the entire decade. That goes to the organization from top to bottom. We haven't had a good season even by accident. The personell dept. both college and pro has just been atrocious. Has any team drafted worse than us this decade, or signed more marginal free agents? (Tripplett, Posey, E. Robinson to name a few)

Bills will win this week
Paup 1995MVP replied to THE GASH STATION's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We picked in the top 10 in 2002 and 2006. Remember who we picked. Mike Williams-UGH!!! and Donte Whitner-Junior UGH! It is not where we pick that is the problem, it is who is doing the picking that is the problem. How will we win this week if TE is our QB? Maybe he gets knocked out in the first series. We can only hope. -
Um, so do we have a shot vs the Jets?
Paup 1995MVP replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, that means we will be facing the Texans at 1-6. Ugh!!! Unbelievable that we could be that bad. If we lose the next three and continue to embarrass ourselves, NO WAY Dick makes it thru the bye. As for beating the Jets, does anyone think the coaching staff ever talks with TE during the week about trying to throw down the field? We are the ONLY team in the league who does not attempt to stretch the field the entire game. They should tell him, one more checkdown and you are done. Why don't Evans and TO ever get in his face? The saddest thing is that NO ONE seems to care on the team. Oh, I forgot except our 7th linebacker JOHN CORTO- he cares bigtime. Yee Hah. -
I totally agree. We have the worst LB's and OT's in the league even with Poz playing because the outside guys are so bad, and there is no depth whatsoever. Our receivers are overrated (Steve Johnson has not been given a chance-and Hardy well-he needs a lot of coaching to become a potential NFL player) and our QB's have been as bad as any in the league since 2001. But we have drafted terribly the entire decade, no question about it. Does any team miss on so many high picks as we do?

CALLING IT NOW: WORST BILLS SEASON EVER
Paup 1995MVP replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I watched the game between 2 of our 3 biggest rivals and thought the same thing. We are not even playing the same sport as these guys. Both teams came up to win, and played their hardest. They were both well prepared, and confident in their gameplans. I don't see any of that from this team. Have we ever set up a moving pocket when Trent has rolled out? Not even close. I am wandering if we even gameplan during the week. I am being serious. How hard is it to practice checkdowns? I really do not think we practice any gameplanning for the opponent. We NEVER change our plays. How much time does a team need to practice a hanoff off tackle? That is the only play we can run. We are not a PROFESSIONAL team at this point. -

Does todays Win for the Fins help the Bills shot
Paup 1995MVP replied to PNW_Bills_Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our coaching is very bad, I think we all know that. But as long as Trent is our QB we will not win another game this year. I honestly believe that even with a very below average O line, that with a half decent QB this team would move the football. Watching the game between Jets-Dolphins last nite, both QB's (even though young) played with poise, confidence and most of all, GOT RID OF THE FOOTBALL ON TIME. There was no comparison between Sanchez and Henne, and TE. Trent is this teams biggest problem. A good QB will always give you a chance to win. He is holding back this team tremendously. I don't think he could even be a backup at this point. Furthermore, I don't think that anyone on this offense likes playing with him. The guy is a jerk. Does anyone ever see him talking to any of his teammates other than Fitzie? He is a pariah. Everyone knows he can't play a lick. But only on the Bills would this guy be playing. He is no better than Alex Smith. I cringe when he comes under center. I have never seen a QB NOT want to throw down the field. That is supposed to be fun-to just let it rip. What is wrong with the guy? Sorry for the rant. -
What is unbelievable and probably forgotten by many at that point (due to how bad the game was) is that we had the ball 1st and 10 on our own 40 with 23 seconds left. And do you all remember where TE threw? 5 yards across the middle to Lee. My goodness, a 30 yarder down the middle, and than spike it and we at least get a long field goal attempt. Or how about a 12-15 yard out pattern. burns 5 seconds at most. Another one of these and you have your field goal attempt. I believe TE is worse than JP, and I hated JP. At least JP looked like he cared at least some of the time, and he wasn't scared. TE looks scared. I have NO IDEA why he is still allowed to play for us.
-
You were down on the team all offseason, and you were correct. This roster is just pitiful.. And the coaching is just as bad. Bell, Scott and Chambers would not make any other teams roster in the NFL. Simple as that. Fine would not either. Trent Edwards may go the route of JP and not get another chance on an NFL roster as well. On defense, other than Poz, no LB would start for anybody else. And I very much doubt that anyone other than Kawika would be a backup either. It is just unbelievable how bad the talent evaluators have been for us. I watch a lot of pro and college football, and truly believe that I could bring in better talent in Free Agency and thru the draft if I made it my fulltime job. On another point, why is Nick Harris and Steve Johnson not playing? And why is TE still playing.
-
I totally agree. Trent Edwards is awful. He has no confidence, and does not lead this team. How many touchdown passes has he completed down the middle of the field. Next to none. He needs to sit. He has not earned the right to continue to start. I can not believe that Fitzpatrick would not be an improvement. We have a bad team. And we are bad at QB, and very bad at several other positions as well. I think most of you would agree that we are awful at OT and LB. And not very good at any position other than RB. Our Special teams have killed us this year, and were the biggest difference in our 3 previous 7-9 seasons, and the disaster that has become 2009. I don't know if this team will win another game under Dick Jauron. He has lost their attention. Lots of good athletes (except at starting QB) but absolutely no leader to give them a winning course of direction. Don't see too many teams make as many mistakes in an NFL game as we did today. Time to BLOW this UP!!!!

Usually not this Pessimistic....
Paup 1995MVP replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow 1-15 would be pretty ugly. Even in 2001 when we were one of the two worst teams in the league (Carolina was the other) we won 3 games. But the talent level on defense even without the injuries is mediocre at best. And the O line is bad right now. But the worst part of our team other than the awful coaching is our QB play. If Edwards does not pick up his play, we will not win many. The good news is that if things continue to go this bad all season, Ralph will HAVE to clean house after the season which will be a great thing.
