I agree that if you have a rock-solid GM who Is in charge of all aspects of the football operation including the HC, then there's no need to have another layer of management. Gotta clean house first and lean on consultants outside the organization like Polian/Wolf to ID who that GM is going to be.

Seriously though, who can Pegs turn to for advise on a matter like this? Russ Brandon? Doug Whaley? He has nowhere else to turn. I don't blame him for getting input from the players, though he has no one to blame but himself for not dumping these chumps and installing a true director of football operations. I will take this as a positive, he may be finally realizing just how big of a mess he has.

I would hire Whaley as a scout looking at players for the defense. He's in way, way, WAY over his head as a GM though; the appalling results after 2+ years clearly speak for themselves.
