  1. Which is what some people said entering the season. No pass rush means difficult times for the secondary, which has exactly zero INT's in half a season. Lunacy is wanting a WR in the first round of 2008 and subsequently employing revisionist history to bemoan another long term respected poster because he didn't want another CB. How many of the 08 WR class are making strides outside of Desean Jackson? We all make observations that don't turn out right, just like personnel evaluators in the NFL (Bill Polian and Corey Simon or Belichick and his busts.) Doesn't mean that person lost all respect.
  2. A necessity for consistent winning in the NFL of 2010.
  3. Is it too early to call Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix busts? How about RW? He's a bust as an owner.
  4. Jones is a younger version of RW, though with more flare for the dramatic. These owners who think they know how to run a team may be good businessman, but people like Mike Brown, Jones, Ralph, Al Davis, and to a lesser degree Bud Adams historically fail. But many of these men still want to control despite repeated failures. Go figure.
  5. Gailey isn't as innovative as many fans thought. He's barely using Spiller, who now has 57 touches from the LOS in 8 games. As for Nix and Gailey, not all HC's and GM's are created equally. The teams with the best GM's get the best players and usually the best coaches. Buffalo has neither and needed to make emergency hires to save face when it became clear no one wanted to work in Buffalo. This is the direct result of RW making dumb moves in hiring Levy and then Brandon as GM. That, and career minded NFL executives don't want to work for someone who can't say where the team will be in 5 years. All of this adds up to 0-8, no end in sight to a debacle of a season, and the franchise's existence in question. Guess those people who didn't want to interview weren't wrong after all.
  6. Give the Canadian press credit for discussing this subject: Canoe on Wilson article It's a hallmark of RW's teams that they be business first, second, and third. Winning is optional so long as a healthy profit is generated. Of course he and the others must speak publicly about winning, but is there a veritable commitment to winning on the field? Not really, but we're inundated with why the contract with Rogers was necessary and RW is on record as saying the infusion of cash won't go toward player salaries. No surprise there. So the team cuts player salaries 25M from 2010 to 2009, they continue pocketing Rogers' 9.75M per game, and the team is 0-8? Yeah, I'd say RW is winning but not the way fans want. Perhaps that's how they want it anyway.
  7. RW will order Nix to take a QB plain and simple. And that'll occur even if Luck doesn't come out. So much depends on the team needs versus what's available and at this early juncture, there will be plenty of pass rushers to select from. For my money if a top QB isn't available and it appears there isn't a dominant OLT, take the best pass rusher who can play 43DE or 34OLB. But that would get the GM fired, because RW knows all about NFL personnel.
  8. 1. Chicago's OL was among the league's worst this season and Buffalo registered 1 sack and 1 QB hit. As bad as Buffalo's pass rush is, to put little pressure on Cutler considering Chicago's OL is demonstrative of how bad they are. And it illustrates how worthless Chris Kelsay and Reggie Torbor are at rushing the passer. I don't think they'd get to QB's in the SEC or PAC-10. 2. Jay Cutler is known for throwing picks, and Buffalo dropped a couple today. The secondary seems to go hot potato whenever a ball was up for grabs, but not getting a pick against Cutler illustrates how bad they are. Leodis McKelvin seems to be regressing in his 3rd NFL season. 3. Chan Gailey becomes pass happy quicker with each game: 18 rushing attempts and 51 passes. Chicago's got a good run defense, but completely giving up on the run is becoming a hallmark of the HC/OC. He's not the offensive genius a lot of gomer fans thought he was. 4. Demetrius Bell and Mansfield Wrotto got most of the snaps against Israel Idonije and Julius Peppers and predictably stunk. At some point the Bills must invest big time resources in an OT. I just don't see it happening, because the position doesn't sell tickets. 5. Up next is a Detroit team at home next week. The same Detroit that hasn't won a road game in more than 3 seasons and as bad as things are now, losing to the Lions would be a new low. 6. Aaron Maybin, we hardly knew thee. ESPN Boxscore
  9. The fact that a gameday thread goes 10 pages should tell just how indifferent fans are becoming to this team. And maybe that's the plan.
  10. good night irene
  11. Crowd clearly enjoys the call.
  12. This is not an argument in absolutes here. The OT's aren't the only problem with this team, but their inability to contain the edges is killing this team, particularly running the ball. Fitz can make some things happen, but any team that is going to be successful needs OT's who aren't other teams cast-offs or late round draft picks who can't hold up at the POA.
  13. How much more evidence does any Bills fan need that both starting OT's are complete garbage? Bell is a liability against decent rushers. Idonije schooled him, and Wrotto wasn't much better today.
  14. like the FB getting a carry on the TD...not so much for FJ getting the ball for the 2 pt conversion
  15. Is that Dan Pastorini or Dave Krieg QB'ing the Bears out there?
  16. 4 rushing yards at the half. Wow. Can get they get any lower?
  17. They really disguise it so well, don't they? And the pass defense is stellar.
  18. I wonder why Seattle let Wrotto go. He looks like the RT of the future. And Bell is really handling Peppers so well.
  19. It's players like Jamon Meredith, Cornell Green, Mansfield Wrotto, Demetrius Bell, and Cordaro Howard that the Bills bring in, hype up, and then we as fans watch play poorly. Teams don't typically find average or better OT's from other teams' practice squads, in the late rounds, or in free agency. Apparently Buffalo thinks it can defy the long odds. If the Bills are intent on taking the best QB next April, they had better make the investment to protect that guy with OT's who can allow that top pick to have some possibility of success. After all, the great Buddy Nix said last off-season that (paraphrasing) QB's can't make plays when they're on their back.
  20. Buffalo spent 25M less in 2010 on player salary than 2009. If they don't spend on some quality free agents, this off-season, CBA permitting, there's really no excuse. With so many positions in need of serious upgrades spend less mode and "build through the draft" speak isn't going to cut it anymore. RW wants to get a QB, but if they don't find a way to protect the guy, what good is it?
  21. Maybe RW's sprung for a new Ford Taurus SHO and wants to make an impression on Merriman. RW's new car
  22. How could they things get any worse? Besides, the attention is not out of tribute but to mock the dysfunctional state of a once proud franchise. That's how you know things are as bad as they can get.
  23. A dose of reality here. GB converted to the 34 after firing Bob Sanders post 2008. He happens to be Buffalo's DL coach now. In 09, Mike McCarthy hired Dom Capers and Ted Thompson drafted Raji 9th and Matthews Jr. later in the first. If you want to criticize the Raji pick, well, DT's take time to develop not named Suh and who move to a new defense from college to the pros. Matthews Jr. was pegged by Thompson and that pick is looking outstanding 1.5 seasons in. So in the span of one year, the team drafted two essential pieces AND converted the remaining guys to that defense. Truly amazing. Could it be some synergy between the front office and coaching staff? Nah, couldn't be. The real problem with Buffalo is inferior decision makers from everyone in the front office on down to the position coaches. You can't point at one guy in that range and declare them at or near the top of their profession. Good players is a big part of it, but let's focus more on the people that pick them. Marv/DJ/Brandon et al are the big reason this team is devoid of talent and features a bunch of mediocre to average talent. You want better players? How about hiring proven talent evaluators who aren't RW's buddies.
  24. Not all coaches are created equal, and when you've got an organizational reputation for winning, it's easier to attract top coordinators like Capers, Mike Nolan, et al. Buffalo ends up with previous DC failure George Edwards because no one wants to work here for an elderly owner who has a franchise that's lost 101 games since 2000. And credit GB and MIA for making switch to a 34 easier by investing high picks to fill it out. The Packers used their top 2 picks in 09 on true 34 players like Raji and Matthews Jr.
