NFL.com: Bills #1 need in draft is OT
DanInUticaTampa replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be like drafting a kick at 19. You can find a good RT in round 2 or later. They should pick the BPA. If that happens to be a tackle, then go for it. But if there is a tackle available at 19, it is most likely a player that is good enough to play LT. And mostly likley glens replacement down the road. We would be a lot better off if BPA when we pick at 19 is a LB or interior Dline. Even a safety. But a RT at 19, sounds like a wasted pick. rounds 2-4 we can get a RT. -
A little shocked by this. I was really expecting this to be an april fools joke. He couldnt have been that old

Jocquie Bell visiting bills
DanInUticaTampa replied to Bash_Gash's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it isn't as much love as it was for sammy. I think there is a chance we trade up for him, but it would be something where he drops low enough that trading up won't be too crazy. -

Bills get a 'B' in free agency so far
DanInUticaTampa replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They only lost 2 starters. shouldnt be that hard to replace mario's and nigels production from last year, since their production was really low. They can really fit those holes in the draft. But I am sure they will try to plug some other stuff in with some bargain players soon. price on a lot of these players is still too high -
Not a player, but Lou Saban seemed like quite the character. Way before my time, but he would probably be a lot of fun. Same with Kemp. Really, any of the big names before the 90s bills would be enjoyable for me. As much as I love the 90s guys, I pretty much feel like I know all their life stories by now, I doubt this show would give me anything I haven't seen or heard before.

Jahri Evans to visit the Bills
DanInUticaTampa replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is speculation that they are working out long term deals for both Glenn and Gilmore to give cap relief. I dont see us getting both guards. but it is a nice idea. Oline is pretty important for what we want to do -
It is tough to talk hypotheticals. Being strapped for cash either way, it would be tough to afford him. And if there was any draft class that was easy to draft his replacement, this would be the draft since it is really deep for the defensive line. We can probably get a decent player to replace him in round 2. I think even with swartz, they would have cut him unless he took a pay cut at 8-9 mill a year, which I don't think he would go for.

Regarding the special teams, they had the exact same coaches they had the year before. Like I said, problems with the defense shouldn't carry over into the next season. Rex Ryan was coaching top defenses even before his jets days. Based on his history, he has only been outside the top ten in defense one before last year. To think his defense wont be good this year you would have to ignore his entire history and just base an opinion on last year which is absurd. And Rex Ryan ruined Mark Sanchez? I don't think Sanchez had any value other than a body to hand the ball off to people. I dont think many people would argue that sanchez failed because of rex, and same with Geno. The Penalties are probably the biggest issue from last year that may carry over into this season. That is one thing they didn't really have an answer for and I don't like the chances of them fixing that issue. Condemning a coach after 1 season is ridiculous and an over reaction.
-
Maybe a better choice of words would be condemning Rex Ryan a failure. It is obvious Rex Ryan didn't meet expectations regarding the win/loss record and restarted a defense that made it regress. But saying he is a failure after one season is way premature. There are plenty of bad things to say about Rex's work in buffalo. But what about the good? When Rex was hired, the joke was Rex is a great defensive coach, but he can't get a good offense going and can't develop a QB worth anything. So he comes to buffalo, and he probably ends up getting one of the best offenses he has had as a HC, and arguably a good QB with a good OC. Rex over came his biggest weakness that everyone said he couldn't do regarding the offense. No one questioned his defensive mind before the season started. Yeah, this was a season worth forgeting as far as defense goes. But looking at his history, it would be very unusual for his defense to be outside the top ten in consecutive years. Im thinking we see a much better defense next year. Anyone that doesn't think the defense will be great next year is solely basing their opinion off of last season alone and not Ryan's whole body of work. Ryan wasn't a top choice for me for HC. But people saying that it is a done deal that he has failed and should be ousted are being ridiculous and over reacting

This is a good article. I think the problem people have with BN is that ever since the pegulas took control, a lot of the local reporters' sources became useless and have been giving just terrible info. I don't question vic as a sport writer, guy is knowledgable, great talent, and knows the franchise well. but his sources are making him look like a fool. With that said, there are so many questions here. If the pegulas wanted to keep the defense in place, then why would you hire a defensive coach with an opposing philosphy? wouldn't it make more sense to hire a HC with an offensive mindset or make swartz HC and have him hire his own OC? I just don't think that pegulas were that dead set on keeping swartz. I think they were until they interviewed ryan. Once they fell in love with him, they felt they wouldn't need swartz. I know things don't look good, but I think the defense will turn itself around this season, even minus a mario williams if it comes to that. But even with me being optimisic and hopeful, Rex Ryan wasn't my first choice for HC. I still would have liked a hugh jackson as HC and keep swartz. Or maybe make swartz HC and have him bring in somoeone better for OC. I don't think Rex is a terrible hire, but there were better options out there. Best thing I can say for ryan is he was Tyrod's biggest advocate, and that really made the biggest difference on offense.

How long before Sexton drops Marrone as a client?
DanInUticaTampa replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it is more than that. If he just opted out of his contract and left classy, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But the way he opted out was very unprofessional, and I just haven't seen that before since that dude jumped from atlanta and left notes in the locker rooms and didn't tell anyone. Marrone didn't tell any of the players we was jumping ship after he was preaching togetherness and what not. He never thanked the organization, the fans, the city, etc. Very classless all around. It is the very image of a polarizing figure. And I am sure this is negative influencing his employment options. I really think the jets wanted him until they saw the way he left and was disgusted. I wouldn't be surprised if there were times they talked contract, and he wanted to put in an opt out clause and he got laughed at. I don't think the HC talks went that far, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came to that he would request it. -
How long before Sexton drops Marrone as a client?
DanInUticaTampa replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get why the agent would drop him in this situation. If anyone drops anyone, I would think Marrone would drop his agent. I think it was his agents advice for him to dump the bills and he would get paid a lot more at another team. Not that tthere is any hard evidence of that, but I don't see why an agent would drop a client that was bringing money in and had the potential to bring more in. With that said, what a knucklehead marrone is. I hope he doesn't ever get another HC job again. Guy is a tool and disrespectful. I am loving that all these openings are getting filled without him. And for some reason he gets the titans job, he is walking into another buffalo situation where ownership is uncertain, which is what I thought he was trying to avoid in the first place? only 32 nfl teams, I can't see this guy ever getting one of them again. there are too many good coaches out there that deserve a shot and wont jump ship and abandon their team -
Congratulations to w/e team hires Hue Jackson

For coaching, he was great. it was those silly draft picks that killed them. imo, he is probably the best candidate out there by far. -
Bucs have fired Lovie Smith

Koetter? Don't know much about him, but bucs fans think he is important to Winstons development. Fans would be more upset to see him go than lovie -
Bucs have fired Lovie Smith
DanInUticaTampa replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not that it means much, but bucs fans down here are speculating that the OC is going to become the new HC, and they will replace the DC. The OC is pretty good and has done a lot for developing the offense. But the defense is not developing, and the front office wanted a change in DC, which lovie may not have wanted. -
Hard to tell. In marrone's first season, he went 6-10. Pretty bad by most standards. then he went 9-7 the following season. Just because a coach has a bad record after one year doesn't mean they are a bad coach. It might just take time for them to teach the system to the players. I thought Cleveland should have kept chud, as he seems to be a pretty solid OC. No way to tell how he is as an HC since no one gave him time. I find it hard to believe rex will have back to back years with a defense out of the top ten. History for him doesn't show that. It is more likely the defense will be very much improved. So as long as the offense doesn't regress, I can't see next year being worse, even with a tougher schedule.

Plot twist: Whaley lied to Carruci saying peglua told him he and rex are gone if they don't make the playoffs next season Pegula reads the report and says "I never said that! I will show them! I will extend the bastard!" And now Whaley is getting an extension worked out But in all serious though, these reporters need to start dropping some of these "sources." they are getting a ton of bad info

Bills on Hard Knocks?

we can probably add the colts to the list now too -
Marrone/Schwartz to Miami? Nope. Gase it is.
DanInUticaTampa replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cant see marrone going to miami the more that comes out. but on a side note, if I am swartz, I don't follow marrone anywhere. Last time he did, marrone got $4 million and Swartz got the axe. The only former assistants from that buffalo staff that would follow marrone would maybe be hackett. I mean really, how can you trust a guy like with your job. Swartz is a good coach, he doesn't need marrone. -
The Doug Whaley positives are taking huge hits.
DanInUticaTampa replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a large gray area here since some of these players are still developing. Preston brown had a great rookie year. He regressed this year, but i cant call a 2nd year linebacker a bust after he had one good year and one bad year. Miller looks like he has promise, but needs development. I can't write him off as a bust yet. I think he reached on the watkins pick and the CK pick sure looks bad. but overall, he has been solid I am not saying his drafting is great, but it is at least average compared to the rest of the league.
