  1. This is a good article. I think the problem people have with BN is that ever since the pegulas took control, a lot of the local reporters' sources became useless and have been giving just terrible info. I don't question vic as a sport writer, guy is knowledgable, great talent, and knows the franchise well. but his sources are making him look like a fool. With that said, there are so many questions here. If the pegulas wanted to keep the defense in place, then why would you hire a defensive coach with an opposing philosphy? wouldn't it make more sense to hire a HC with an offensive mindset or make swartz HC and have him hire his own OC? I just don't think that pegulas were that dead set on keeping swartz. I think they were until they interviewed ryan. Once they fell in love with him, they felt they wouldn't need swartz. I know things don't look good, but I think the defense will turn itself around this season, even minus a mario williams if it comes to that. But even with me being optimisic and hopeful, Rex Ryan wasn't my first choice for HC. I still would have liked a hugh jackson as HC and keep swartz. Or maybe make swartz HC and have him bring in somoeone better for OC. I don't think Rex is a terrible hire, but there were better options out there. Best thing I can say for ryan is he was Tyrod's biggest advocate, and that really made the biggest difference on offense.
  2. I think it is more than that. If he just opted out of his contract and left classy, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But the way he opted out was very unprofessional, and I just haven't seen that before since that dude jumped from atlanta and left notes in the locker rooms and didn't tell anyone. Marrone didn't tell any of the players we was jumping ship after he was preaching togetherness and what not. He never thanked the organization, the fans, the city, etc. Very classless all around. It is the very image of a polarizing figure. And I am sure this is negative influencing his employment options. I really think the jets wanted him until they saw the way he left and was disgusted. I wouldn't be surprised if there were times they talked contract, and he wanted to put in an opt out clause and he got laughed at. I don't think the HC talks went that far, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came to that he would request it.
  3. I don't get why the agent would drop him in this situation. If anyone drops anyone, I would think Marrone would drop his agent. I think it was his agents advice for him to dump the bills and he would get paid a lot more at another team. Not that tthere is any hard evidence of that, but I don't see why an agent would drop a client that was bringing money in and had the potential to bring more in. With that said, what a knucklehead marrone is. I hope he doesn't ever get another HC job again. Guy is a tool and disrespectful. I am loving that all these openings are getting filled without him. And for some reason he gets the titans job, he is walking into another buffalo situation where ownership is uncertain, which is what I thought he was trying to avoid in the first place? only 32 nfl teams, I can't see this guy ever getting one of them again. there are too many good coaches out there that deserve a shot and wont jump ship and abandon their team
  4. For coaching, he was great. it was those silly draft picks that killed them. imo, he is probably the best candidate out there by far.
  5. Koetter? Don't know much about him, but bucs fans think he is important to Winstons development. Fans would be more upset to see him go than lovie
  6. Not that it means much, but bucs fans down here are speculating that the OC is going to become the new HC, and they will replace the DC. The OC is pretty good and has done a lot for developing the offense. But the defense is not developing, and the front office wanted a change in DC, which lovie may not have wanted.
  7. Hard to tell. In marrone's first season, he went 6-10. Pretty bad by most standards. then he went 9-7 the following season. Just because a coach has a bad record after one year doesn't mean they are a bad coach. It might just take time for them to teach the system to the players. I thought Cleveland should have kept chud, as he seems to be a pretty solid OC. No way to tell how he is as an HC since no one gave him time. I find it hard to believe rex will have back to back years with a defense out of the top ten. History for him doesn't show that. It is more likely the defense will be very much improved. So as long as the offense doesn't regress, I can't see next year being worse, even with a tougher schedule.
  8. Plot twist: Whaley lied to Carruci saying peglua told him he and rex are gone if they don't make the playoffs next season Pegula reads the report and says "I never said that! I will show them! I will extend the bastard!" And now Whaley is getting an extension worked out But in all serious though, these reporters need to start dropping some of these "sources." they are getting a ton of bad info
  9. we can probably add the colts to the list now too
  10. Cant see marrone going to miami the more that comes out. but on a side note, if I am swartz, I don't follow marrone anywhere. Last time he did, marrone got $4 million and Swartz got the axe. The only former assistants from that buffalo staff that would follow marrone would maybe be hackett. I mean really, how can you trust a guy like with your job. Swartz is a good coach, he doesn't need marrone.
  11. There is a large gray area here since some of these players are still developing. Preston brown had a great rookie year. He regressed this year, but i cant call a 2nd year linebacker a bust after he had one good year and one bad year. Miller looks like he has promise, but needs development. I can't write him off as a bust yet. I think he reached on the watkins pick and the CK pick sure looks bad. but overall, he has been solid I am not saying his drafting is great, but it is at least average compared to the rest of the league.
  12. brent grimes is a good player, but if I am an NFL GM, I trade this guy just to get rid of his wife
  13. I think last year stung a lot worse. Too many highs and lows. Lows being Ralphs passing and seeing our Star QB fighting his cancer for the second time. Then things looked up when the pegulas bought the team. We get a winning season, but we look back at some frustrating games and with that talent we really should have been in the playoffs. Then comes the offseason, and even though I wasn't a fan of Marrone, it really sucked that he quit instead of us firing him. Such a slap in the face to get walked out on by that guy. Totally insulting. I think of all the years, last years really drained a lot of energy from me more than the others. Too many highs and lows, and it lasted throughout most of the year.
  14. The coaching hire was questionable since we had a good defensive staff under contract already. Even though we could have done better, I still say Rex is an improvement over Marrone. Rex was obviously a huge reason why we have Tyrod and why our QB position is pretty stable at the moment. Offense has improved a lot. As for defense, I am at a loss for words. I didn't think that the defense would be as great as last year, since last year it was pretty special. Never thought it would regress this far. But it is hard to argue that rex doesn't know about defenses. Just looking at his past, this is unusual production for his defenses. Based on his history, if I had to make a bet for next year, I would say the defense is way better. He needs to rework the defense, get some different personel in there that fits his scheme (mainly at ILB) and understand his players better. The penalities are the most bothersome for me, because to me that is a big reflection on coaching. He himself has drawn some penalties. There were some penalties that make you question the Refs, but overall we have issues. And those issues haven't gone away. Kinda sad about the defense. This is probably the best offense Rex has had as a HC, and it happens to be the year he has the worst defense he has ever had. Overall, I think he is still an improvement over marrone. I think his team will improve next year. But after seeing a lot of these things this season, I am skeptical.
  15. If he is healthy enough and there is no drop off, maybe they want to develop him.
  16. I agree, they are a nice balance to eachother. I don't agree with Carruci's article suggesting that Whaley is on the hot seat. If we lose out the last 4 games, then maybe. But I think we have a good shot at posting a winning record again, at least. I don't think Rex is going to be pushing for a new GM because he doesn't want a to be a "holdover" like he was with the jets and get a ****ty GM. Especially when whaley had a really good draft year without even having a first round pick. I don't see Whaley going anywhere unless this last part of the season takes a turn for the worst.
  17. I think restructuring mario will also get some help or just flat out cutting him. But I think they are going to restructure mario
  18. This is pretty much true. But that doesn't negate the problem. There is a lot of really bad officiating going on in the NFL right now. Tons of mistakes in very big games. The NFL is trying to sweep it under the rug. But they really need to make some improvements. because it lowers the quality of the game if fans are walking away from a game thinking the refs blew a bunch of calls that cost a team a game. And for some reason, this year it has been a huge issue. Not just for the bills, but for a lot of teams. I think for starters, they need to utilize the people they have in NY reviewing stuff more. If a ref makes a REALLY bad call, someone with a TV screen should be able to say "hey, this is really bad, do this." And they should also expand on what coaches can challenge. Im not saying for them to go all crazy and slow the game down. But the people watching this in NY with all the technology should be able to correct some of these officiating errors in real time without slowing the game down too much, if at all.
  19. I would still take Rex over Marrone. The Rex hire was a huge reason why we signed Tyrod. Rex brought in a competent OC. Maybe not a great one, but a decent one. We are around or near the top ten in scoring right now. Our defense for sure regressed early in the season, but it is showing up a lot better now. I am pretty sure that defense will get to where it needs to be eventually There is too much good talent and rex is too good of a defensive mind. There still needs to be some better chemestry between the coaches and players, and it will get there. They are putting in new systems and are 1 game away from matching marrones first year record. Gotta give these coaches a chance to put in their system, as frustrating as it is. But I see this team getting better and better, even if they are failing short. That game plan for new england was great, and you could argue rex outcoached the patriots that day, the players just were beat by better players. and refs are dumb. But I do see this team getting better and better. With marrone, after two years I really wasn't expecting the offense and espcially the oline to get any better. we went 2 years without seeing improvement. at least with rex, I see this team getting better. Still, how cool would it have been if we signed Arians over Marrone back in the day? I bet we would have beaten the pats 4 times in the past 3 years
  20. I can't imagine him getting that kind of money, but with redskins nothing would shock me
  21. He should be re-signed. He does everything we ask him to do. Even when he doesn't have a lot of catches, he is still blocking on plays. He earns his paycheck every game imo. He would be much better keeping than percy or hogan. He shouldn't cost that much to keep.
  22. Patriots always seem to play better after a loss. They use it as motivation. If the pats lose tomorrow, our chances of winning next week get smaller imo. Pats rarely lose 2 games in a row.
