  1. This. The final call should be made by HC, but he should yield to OC if the OC feels strongly about a guy. naming a starting a QB is a big deal, and Rex should make the final call. But if Roman strongly pushes for a guy, Rex would be smart to trust Roman. But really, headcoach should be the one with final word
  2. barring an injury, I think they keep all 3 of them. All three looked good in the 1st game, all are affordable. Cassel and tyrod are the ones that would save us money, and no way they cut tyrod and cassel is looking good enough as a safety net. And in my opinion, EJ still has potential and we won't save anything by cutting him. EJ looked better in that game than he has before. I think he has improved, even if he is a step behind the other two guys. EJ can still get better and possibly fill in later if one or both of the others get injured. Im trying to keep an even temper because it was just one preseason game. But All I can think of is last year and we had 5 preseason games and it took forever for the 1st team to score a TD. This offense looks so much improved. It isn't an offense that will light teams up, but it will keep them honest.
  3. that is terrible. Preseason injuries that end your season are the worst.
  4. Joe B was right. That DB could have made a play on that ball. If his arms were 4 times longer
  5. More than that. Ej sat out last part of last year, the rest he was either thrown to the wolves or injured
  6. Me too. If he is good, then he really should become the favorite. Browns have a great D, probably the best we will play in preseason. It will be a good test
  7. naw, tyrod or ej gotta get the start next week, probably tyrod since he seems more ready. They cant get a fair comparison if all 3 do the same snaps every week. They each need to get a shot with/against the starters. This is going to be a tought choice, they are look equally bad/good for different reasons, so it is impossible to compare the 3 of them. I think it isn't going to come down to who is the best QB, but the best one that fits the system. They are all about equal imo, but each has a completely different skillset
  8. Im watching the replay tomorrow, but on mute. I had plenty of warning in this thread
  9. I didn't get to watch the game, but from what I am hearing I agree. nothing great, but it looks better than last year
  10. Im not watching the game, but we are killing it in TOP. ball control! Now we need some rest
  11. People are saying miller is looking good. how is the rest of the oline looking? I don't have access to the game
  12. I don't think that there is an agenda exactly. I do think the local media is extremely biased against EJ. I personally think it is because even though all 3 of these guys look like a lousy excuse for a starting QB, EJ is the one the local media has seen play the most in the past couple years, so he is the one they are being more critical on. Where as cassel and taylor weren't here last year, so they "have to be better!" is in their mindset. I don't think they even realize where there bias stem from, or realize it exists. but I am pretty positive it is because EJ is a holdover from last season and the other guys are new. I don't think they have an agenda though.
  13. Our QB situation has really sucked, but I am so glad we don't have bullygate, deflategate, and this breaking players jaw issues that our division has had over the years. Now, I would gladly take all 3 of those problems in exchange for aaron rodgers.
  14. "used to be" was just meant as in that the draft used to be the biggest thing I would read his posts for, but now that has expanded to other things haha. He is also an excellent follow on twitter, any bills fan on twitter needs to follow him. He was one of my favorite people to follow during free agency this year.
  15. I second this. At least create a blog. Astro used to be great for draft stuff, but over the years his analysis of training camps and other stuff has really grown as well. There are a lot of draft stuff out there, but he would really stand out with his other stuff. Not being able to go to camp, his stuff seems to be the most informative. All the "professionals" say the same thing and are redundant. Astro puts in points about things that I don't think the reporters even understand
  16. These are things I am wondering too as what is the problem. With his accuracy, when it comes to "point and shoot" his accuracy seems high, like elite high. But then in an in game setting, that is where his accuracy takes a nose dive. Is it because he isn't processing info fast enough? Not reading a defense? Confidence issue? Game plan/coaching? Chemstry? Bad oline? If he isn't processing info fast enough, I would think experience would help him with that. I go back to his rookie year. If my memory is right, the jests are the only team he has played twice. In his rookie year they had a pretty good d. In the first game, he looked horrible. In the 2nd game, he probably had his best game. So I really thought after playing the jets D, he learned and understood it better and in turn he was able to play much better in the 2nd jets game. This is going back to his rookie year though the short passes are concerning to me because I would think that would be better by now. I have not been at camp, but based on how he played in the past, his short throws that missed were caused by pressure from the D line. And we really need someone that is better when being pressured, because in our division, the QB is going to get pressured a lot, even if the oline is better than last year. Being better at longer passes than short gives me bad memories of losman. Couldn't manage a game to save his life. If he didn't complete an 80 yard bomb to evans then he wasnt scoring period. I like EJ, and I am rooting for him. I am hoping that not only does he win the job, but he actually turns into a decent QB.
  17. They really need to increase the roster size from 53 to like 56. With all the multiple formations and specialty roles, teams need extra roster spots in the modern day nfl.
  18. I think they keep all 4 on through the 3rd preseason game just in case there is an injury. After the third game is where 1 of them will be cut.
  19. Except when trent edwards was our QB. He looked like a stud in camp, and everything looked fine to everyone. But then we saw him play a game.... I am not hitting the panic button yet. Anyone that was expecting a QB to light it up this quickly was dreaming. We don't have a lot of talent at the QB position. I think when rex said the blue/white scrimmage on saturday will be the first big test, I think that is true. We don't know how these QBs are doing because we aren't seeing everything. There might be better or worse results going on in the closed practices.
  20. I need to see them in some preseason games before I go all chicken little. I still think these coaches are handling this right. the last time I recall a legit 3 QB competition was when the seahawks did it with Flynn, Wilson, and jackson. You had 1 vet, 1 unknown backup, and 1 rookie. We arguably have a similar thing with 1 unknown backup, 1 vet, and 1 young player. This is a good recipe. Cassel has vet experience and we kind of know what we get from him. Taylor and EJ both have potential, so maybe one of them surprises. I really think we are doing this QB situation the best way we can with what we have. And I don't think there is any other QB available via trade or whatever that would be better than these guys. If we can improve the run game from last year, our offense will be a lot better, even if the QB play doesn't improve. I think it is because no one wants to admit that Cassel may be the starter. At least with a younger player, you can say there is .0001% chance he turns the corner. but with a 10 year vet, what you see is what you get. People are clinging to hope that there is some potential in the young QB so that our answer for QB is on the roster. But chances are we are going to be drafting a QB high in the draft next year and probably signing another vet somewhere in there as well.
  21. Not every competition has to last very long. They probably saw enough to know they were the best for those positions and decided to keep them there.
  22. Kiko was only going to be a low cost guy for two years max. after that (possibly sooner) he will get a huge payday. We are talking maybe 2 years worth of savings. which is nice, but if we dont have to pay top dollar for a QB, it really isn't that big of a deal. We aren't going to be able to keep all of our players, but I don't think the mccoy think really hurt us in the cap. The only thing it may have hurt is our ability to re-sign dareus, which I think will still get done but they might have to get a little more creative with it since it is going to be such a massive contract. As for the other guys like glenn, gilmore, and so on, the cap keeps getting bigger. So our ability to re-sign guys gets easier. Our cap number this year wont be our cap number next year. I think the cap going up each year is why we re-signed hughes and publicly said we are going to keep dareus. Putting that much money on the dline makes more sense when the cap keeps going up, because the percentage of the cap going toward the dline goes down. I am more worried about our QB and oline than I am about re-signing guys and mccoys contract
