Mike Schoop explains himself regarding "rudeness"
Zulu Cthulhu replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've heard plenty of callers to WGR over the years deserving of a little ridicule from the hosts. I'm no huge fan of Schopp, but his act doesn't bother me too much. If it drives you up the wall, then simply don't listen. Seems too many forget they have that option. Don't give me any BS about not having other options in this day and age. Schopp's act isn't in any way unique, either. Cowherd plays up to the "sophisticated sports guy" audience constantly, even though he sounds like he barely made it out of high school. Easterbrook (whom Schopp cites a lot on his show) has been playing the haughty, intellectual type in print for ages. -
I agree. With Talib likely gone (and possibly in prison) and Ronde old Claiborne should be Tampa's pick. They could also go with Richardson or maybe Blackmon if he's still there. In the very unlikely event he's available at 10, i'd have no problem with Buff taking Claiborne.

Now Greg Williams is a cheater?
Zulu Cthulhu replied to mountainwampus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems the discussion here by some attempting to discern the mindsets of the players and/or coaches involved in this is missing the issue. As others have said, this kind of compensation is against NFL rules, period. There's no question Williams engaged in it, he's already admitted as much. The level of injury resulting from the compensated hits isn't an issue at all, neither is the level of injury (or "hurt") the compensated players intended to inflict. The money awarded is the only problem, and Greggg will pay dearly for it. -
I love all the hate for SJ on this board/thread by some. Same guys that make excuses for fitz because he played hurt after the washington game. Still, those same guys/gals never bring up the fact that SJ played hurt at least as long as fitz did and almost caught 80 balls again for +1000 yards. The drops, the celebration penalties negate all that production - 2 consecutive years of production by the way. SJ is a number 1 receiver. Not elite like Fitzgerald or A. johnson, but a no. 1 all the same. He gets open and catches the ball despite being not that fast, not that tall, etc. Yet we should lowball this guy and run him out of town because he's made some immature mistakes, even though he's just entering his prime and beat the odds for 7th round picks already. Great idea. And you same posters will be complaining when the Bills throw out another makeshift offense and miss the playoffs again. You living room couch salary cap experts who somehow know exactly what a WR like SJ is worth, who will likely flock to this board and complain if SJ is signed for $1 more than you think he's due.

I thought I heard somewhere that Decastro might get converted to RT by whoever ends up drafting him. Anyone else? I guess it makes sense if you spend top 15 money to draft a guard. Buffalo already has a good interior line and a RT in the making though, so I'd expect the Bills to pass on him.

He's going to New England. Mark it down. NE has already asked Ocho to restructure. If he refuses, he's gone and welcome to Boston Brandon Lloyd.

Love Wallace, but the price is too high and defense is a bigger issue. Plus I dont think Fitz could get the ball to him downfield anyway. He'd be wasted with our QB.

IIRC, that Alabama thing was a riverboat casino/hotel that several NFL players got burnt on, not just TO. No excuse, of course. And the avalanche of child support owed doesn't help. Hope he has a good family law attorney.

We have 9 draft picks and would like 10
Zulu Cthulhu replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All it means is he thinks more picks are better than less. He's not hoping for anything specific. You're reading way too much into the statement. Given the team's multitude of needs, it's a reasonable position to have. -
Next Years once in a generation player
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If there is a supposed "once in a generation" player in every draft, most of them obviously fall short. Andrew Luck is that player this draft, even though RGIII has taken some of the shine off Luck. I'm one of the biggest Cam Newton fans here, but even after his great rookie season his generational status, if you want to call it that, is still up in the air. Thinking back as far as I can, the only guys I can think of that have lived up to the "once in a generation" hype have been P. Manning, Randy Moss, and Calvin Johnson. -
You keep spouting off about your "logical" arguments in this thread, yet every one of your posts could've easily been written by my cousin. She's 11 years old. And not a big football fan. Go back and look up those big words again, I think you may be misunderstanding them.

No just a radio interview.

Nix sounded pretty certain this morning - there's absolutely zero chance of trading up for RGIII. We can all put that fantasy to rest.

Laron Landry "hulkamania"
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one told him to tweet those pics. His reactions to the comments suggest to me he ain't too bright. Still pretty swole though. -
Sadly, i think only some of them were kidding.

I hope you're really, REALLY drunk. Good effort though. -
I'd take him at his word BB. No running backs.

Cornerback and LT Situation
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Joe B on WGR gets the impression from Gailey/nix that the value for defensive end is in the middle rounds, not up top in the 1st. Maybe they do end up taking a tackle in the 1st? -
Report: Jets to use first-round RFA tender on Maybin
Zulu Cthulhu replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No way anyone bites and surrenders a 1st round for Maybin. -
I think this response perfectly answers the attempted "premise" of this thread. Is it "stupid to blame Fitz"? Well it depends. Are we heaping ALL the blame for the team's failures last season on him? No, or course not. That would be stupid. But should he be blamed for his bouts of inaccuracy last year when he was chucking picks all over the place? Well yes, of course. Those underthrows pointed out above are perfect examples of things we can and should blame Fitz for, and it ain't stupid to do so. And even attempting to compare Ftiz to Eli, in any way, is nuts.

Similar question Would you rather do: 1. Kathy Bates 2. Kate Upton

Cornerback and LT Situation
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think too many people are saying pass rushers are lesser needs than tackle or corner. I agree that the OL performed adequately for the most part. But corner is an issue. McGee shouldnt be counted on anymore, he's simply hurt too often. McKelvin is unreliable and lacks awareness. Williams is young and shouldn't be asked to shoulder the burden for the unit yet. Florence was exposed several times last season on big passes. That said, DE is the no. 1 need on the defense and getting a decent one (or 2) will help the secondary a bit. But the crop is thin this year at that position (according to the "experts" at least) and I'd rather take a potential lock down corner than make a big reach and take some end just because of the need at DE. -
To be fair, i wouldn't describe the Giants' D as a whole as "awesome." Across some measures, their defense was actually lacking. The pass rush certainly disrupted opposing QBs, though, especially late in the season. It was Eli's play that actually kept the Giants And their defense in more games this past year, not the other way around.

That right there is the biggest reason to resign SJ. Paying him, even overpaying him, is imperative given Buffalo's trouble luring free agents (ones in their prime, at least) to this market. I'm not dogging the town, that's just a fact nowadays. If they allow SJ to move on and sign somewhere else, there's a strong chance the Bills will be unable to sign a proven guy like Colston, Jackson, or even Bowe. Left hanging out to dry, they'll be forced to start over again and try to groom a later round WR pick into the next Stevie.

There probably was a source, albeit an anonymous one, who has some connection to the negotiations from one side or the other. He/she probably heard an opinion or comment from someone else, embellished it to make a better quote, and passed it along to the media.
