  1. Sorry to add to the anecdotal, Dean, but - working in the cardiac monitoring world - I've watched a few people $#!+ the bed on the table in cardiac arrest, and at ~ 5 litres/minute, it takes a few minutes for the oxygen delivery to the brain to cease. Even with a spastic heart. I'm not saying it's a pretty thing, but blood flow is blood flow, oxygen consumption is oxygen consumption. I can assure you those are some very hectic and focused minutes for the team around the table. God bless 'em. A shot to the head? With multiple high calibre slugs? Whew. That's pretty severe. Residual circulation isn't going to help you a lot there. That would be pretty final, and in a hurry. But I defer my comments to Rubes, of course. Or any other MD on the board. "Car on the Hill" - Joni Mitchell
  2. Just me, of course, but I'd take the Steelers O-line any day of the week. At least such as it existed during the two Super Bowl teams. This having been said, assuming Wood comes back in the form in which he left (not with the broken leg, but just a few minutes prior thereto), I'm starting to feel confident about the interior of this line. But don't think for a minute that Roethlisberger or Brady or Montana or Jesus was going to perform on a Pro Bowl level with the line, and the offensive coaching, that the Bills have had over the past 4 seasons.
  3. Having now posted on this idiotic thread a couple of times, it just struck me... What the hell do I win? I mean, now that I'm the winner and all.....
  4. I was sleeping with my Administrative Assistant for the first time that week. For the next 16 months, everything after that was pretty anticlimactic. How did the trial end up? "Feel The Benefit" - 10 CC
  5. Yes. Agreed. Almost geysered the Malbec. That was damn funny. "Dead Girls of London" - Frank Zappa (loud, too).
  6. Now that I think about it, I believe Nanker would say "Quite", not "Right". But all Supertramp allusions aside, you get the drift. It was a good post. Yadig?
  7. This, actually, is a very good post. As Nanker would say..."Right". Well done.
  8. Is this phrased as the collective "We", or more like the Victorian "We"? It gets more confusing by the day around here.
  9. Nice attempt, but did you shoot for the Moon and land on Olympus Mons? A victory against the Packers is "A Dream Win"? Let me attempt to reeducmacate you. The Venue: Foxboro. The Opponent: Well, skippy, it ain't the Pack. The Scenario: Marcia* steps back to pass, and - against all odds - actually receives a Bills pass rush that isn't flagged with 400 pounds of yellow laundry. Ball sails. Picked off by Byrd (but I'd settle for the Water Boy). Marcia* ambles forward in an attempt to "tackle". This makes him a moving target...not a quarterback in a skirt. Bang. Marcia*. Cart.
  10. Not to mention that it's not a "death tax". It's an "Inheritance Tax" or "Estate Tax". "Death Tax" is a term cooked up by a right-wing pollster/marketer to create anger over inheritance taxes among the middle class in order to assure passage in Congress. Inheritance taxes are normally - well, no, almost exclusively - a concern among the super-wealthy. I am not super-wealthy, I'm not even close. I have no problem taxing the living daylights out of some very rich dude who, frankly, can't take it with him (or her).
  11. Two points: 1) I believe a lot of it is going to depend on how physically fit he's keeping himself. He's 32, right? 33? Not too many people just step right into the groove at that age. Anyone who has watched him over the past nine (?) seasons has to feel for the guy. Nine painful years with this franchise. One winning season. He ought to get a break of some sort. But last I checked, Gailey wasn't here when Schobel was drafted, and as such doesn't have any ties or commitment to this guy. If Schobel comes into camp slow and out of shape, he's just another player that hasn't proved himself in camp. I don't think there are going to be any "gimme" spots on this roster. New coach, new job. 2) I hope Nic Harris makes the team. I don't know why. I guess it was the highlight film I watched when he was drafted. That kid is a headhunter.
  12. There's something nominally creepy about focusing on booze this early on a Sunday morning...but...kudos to you and your wife on the Rodney Strong Pinot. Good choice, and good price point. Might try to find a bottle of that this week.
  13. Man, I just can't get there. I've never been a hard-liquor guy. Give me a choice between a great Scotch and a '97 Amarone della Valpolicella or an '04 Schuster Pinot....sorry, the Scotch never gets out of the gate. To each his own. Cheers!
  14. Not to temper your effusiveness, but remember, this is the off-season. The quality of the posts are often more cerebral and eclectic. And then the season starts, the Bills go 1-5, and the Haters come out and crap all over the Wall, and try to sell you cyanide tablets. Don't buy those. They go terribly with Malbec.
  15. Reminds me of a quote related to the game of golf: "Easy to learn, impossible to master". Learning which wines I enjoy (and do NOT enjoy) will occupy the rest of my life. What a blessed future lies before me. "That Thing You Do" - The Wonders
  16. As I'd stated in a thread last week, I think Roscoe showed some chops for having apologized for the Cleveland debacle. Leaving that nightmare in the past, look at the PR stats. The odds are good that everytime this guy gets his hands on the ball, the Bills are looking at 10 yards. Or more. Okay, brain surgeons, here's the next question...which OTHER player on the team gives you that kind of production when he touches the ball? Evans? Lynch? Nelson? Let's man-up and face facts - ten yards per play is a BIG DEAL for this team. I'd keep him just for punt returns. If he adds a few catches per game in the slot, I'm pointing at the scoreboard and spilling my Labatts on the guy in front of me. What is the basis for the Roscoe hate? The Cleveland game? He's apologized. Get over it. Go Roscoe. "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley" - Robert Palmer
  17. I've made a sea change from beer to wine. My beer of choice up here on the lake was (and, I guess, still is) Molson Canadian. I just don't chow it down the way I used to. I've switched to wine these days, and seem to be on a Malbec kick. It's like getting a good bottle of Bordeaux for about 30%-40% less. Tonight it's a Punto Final Riserva, being served as a I await a wild-caught sockeye salmon filet coming off a charcoal grill. Salmon seasoned with Lawry's Seasoning Salt (yes, I've been to the original Lawry's in Chicago - fuggin' great steaks) and cooked over briquets with a goodly chunk of hickory for smoking. Damn. There's a hole in my glass. Waiter...... "Ocean Breeze" - Pablo Cruise
  18. The thing I try to keep in mind, I guess, is that the kid is 25 years old, or something like that. Would I have acted in a more mature manner at 25? Probably. But no one ever waved $XX million dollars in my face at 25, so I can't tell you whether I'd have sprouted an attitude, or not. At the end of the game, however, it's probably unrealistic to expect this kid to act in a manner that those of us who have reached "maturity" would find acceptable. I wrote in another thread that I thought it would be a good move all 'round if the Bills traded him. I'm guessing it won't happen now, and let's hope for the best from a very good running back.
  19. Classic response. Love it. You're SUCH a Bills fan. I'm with you - "It could always suck worse".
  20. Let's take this a step further than that. What in heaven's name is this board going to do if the Bills actually start putting up more than 17 points per game? Just thinking about it makes me need to lie down for awhile.
  21. No, you see, it's posts like this that get people drinking the Kool Aid, and inspire "hope". And for this, according to the Haters, you should be banned for life, keel-hauled, left to die on a stake, and your corpse hung in a prominent place. Bastard. "One Toke Over The Line" - Brewer & Shipley
  22. Holy schit. An apology for a drunken post! I suppose I owe a few of those - you know who you are. Seriously, bananathumb, very classy. You've elevated yourself to one of my favorite posters. Until you disagree with me, of course, at which time I'll drop another drunk-post-bomb, and wish I had the temerity to apologize for it.
  23. I think it probably WOULD be in the best interest of both parties to trade him, and my rationale is as follows. Fred Jackson's already calling/texting Lynch to implore him to get his a$$ into camp, because the offense is going to be more than the usual 12-plays-and-a-cloud-of-penalty-flags. Supposing Lynch DOESN'T get his a$$ into camp, his attitude is going to earn him a spot on the bench for the rest of the season. Assuming a worst-case scenario, let's say there's a strike next year. If you're Lynch, you'll be completing your 5th and final year of your contract having played 2 good years, followed by two crap years, and a strike year. Your value in the league is circling the bowl. If you're the Bills, you have a player that came out with a lot of promise, but is now just another back. No one special. What kind of trade value does he have? Zilcho. Makes the most sense for both parties to move him along, take a 3rd if you're lucky, and get back to work.
  24. What limp-wristed nancy-boy school did YOU attend? Where I come from, we'd have been lined up against the wall and shot for some of the #*%$ that passes for grammar on this board.
