Playoffs : SD Chargers at Cincy Bengals

I've said it probably 20 times on this board and someone always disagrees with me but it has to be said again. Andy Dalton = Ryan Fitzpatrick -

Wall of text, sup? Paragraphs are your friend, friend.

350 of his 378 yards were yards after the catch last night. Speaks more to the dynamic playmaking abilities of Sammy Watkins IMO. He's a guy that the more I watch play, the more I think he's a guy you have to take at #9 if he's available. Not in the AJ Green/Calvin Johnson/Julio Jones class or mold that we would all love, but a dynamic player nonetheless. Maybe more similar to an Antonio Brown or Steve Smith.

The problem with saying this is that they've always lost big games under Mark Richt. At least under Murray they still scored when they lost, the defense would just lay a turd.
-
He beat them this year. Shredded them too. In 2012, there wasn't a single NCAA QB that would have been able to overcome the combination of Georgia's pisspoor play and South Carolina's defense playing LIGHTS OUT. In 2011, he played well too. His defense was brutal (45-42 loss) and let Lattimore do whatever he wanted for the second year in a row. I was always a big Murray critic but he never choked in a SC/UGA game. the rest of the team was always the let down. I would love him in the 3rd.
-
Do they make the playoffs because of him? Or because of a vaunted defense/in spite of him? He's alrigjt. I will admit his game took a step forward this year, but if my team can make a Super Bowl run and I can pick any QB in the league to engineer it, Dalton is probably around the 20th guy I choose. Just for comparison's sake, he and Fitz are quite similar. I averaged Fitz's output in 11 games this year to a 16 game total. 2011-2013 QB A: 10801 yards, 68 TD, 56 INT, 6.8 yards/attempt, 225 yards/game, 14 fumbles lost QB B: 11363 yards, 80 TD, 49 INT, 7.0 Y/A, 236 Y/G, 13 fumbles lost

Some are comparing it to the 2011 QB class. If you don't remember that first round crop was Newton, Locker, Gabbert and Ponder. Dalton (Fitz II) and Kaepernick in the early 2nd. 2 arguably good QBs (Cam & Kaep), one game manager, two busts, and a walking injury report.
-
QB coach? They need one. Hackett is not the answer there. For an OL coach, I'm not sure if its coaching that is the problem, or that the new offensive scheme just isn't a good for for Pears and maybe Urbik. LG NEEDS to be fixed regardless if it was scheme or coaching.

Holy hyperbole. I would venture a guess that the Browns are the laughingstock (firing ANOTHER coach--after 1 year!), followed closely by the Lions who were 6-3, with 5 of 7 remaining games at home AND all 3 division foes playing with backup QBs and finished 7-9. Or maybe its the Redskins who traded the farm to STL for the #2 overall pick in 2012 (including their 2014 1st rounder). Whom they shut down at the end of the season. And what pick did that 2014 1st rounder become? ONLY #2 OVERALL! But that's just me.

Upgrade at TE. Chandler to TE2/red zone threat. If the draft then Ebron or Seferian-Jenkins. If a free agent, Greg Olsen. Upgrade the Bradham/Moats LB spot with another stud. Khalil Mack or CJ Mosley for example. Upgrade at LG and RT. Plug the holes. OL and DL depth. You saw the first half tonight without Dareus on the field. Run after run after run right up the gut. The backups are not good.

The handling of this situation, to me, will be one of the biggest ways to evaluate Marrone this offseason. How committed is he to discipline and winning football games? Because the ONLY good thing about Crossman's units was the FG team. Can he fire a friend he has known for 20 years? The punters were both bad. Punt coverage was abysmal. Kickoff coverage was, at times also abysmal. Kick return and punt return games were non-existent and the units as a whole seemed to be good for at least 2 penalties a week. I can't remember the ST units ever being so terrible.

Exhaustive film study: EJ's strengths and weaknesses
JM57 replied to l< j's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
10 games is not enough film to evaluate ANY player. -
I thought that Branch took his spot in the starting lineup when Carrington got injured. I know they list both Dareus and K. Williams as DT and Mario as OLB. I want to say Branch/Carrington are called DE when they post starting lineups and such
-
Charles is a DT and Carrington a DE in this system, are they not? DL depth is necessary. Corbin Bryant and Charles have been OK, I guess. But there was a TD drive vs. Atlanta where I remember seeing Bryant, Charles and one other backup DL on the field and Atlanta ran a hurry-up to prevent substitutions. They got absolutely gashed. Carrington is a solid rotational player, and hopefully can be re-signed at a reasonable rate to have better depth in cases like that.

What are the four weakest starting players?
JM57 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1) LG. This position is a void. I think part of the reason Urbik has looked so pedestrian this year is because of this. Levitre was a very good player and could handle his guy 1 on 1. This allowed Wood to chip on Urbik's guys before heading to the second level. With Legursky/Brown being so bad, Wood now has to help the LG constantly, leaving Urbik 1v1. That's bad news. If he's your weak link on the line, you've got a good line. But he's a notch above average at best. 2) RT I think Pears' play has dropped off a bit as well. To be expected in his mid 30s. He's nearing the end of the shelf life of NFL linemen. 3) TE...Chandler does his best work when the offense is pinned deep or in the red zone because of his height. That's all well and good for a TE2. But you need a dynamic TE that's good on the whole field, not just 40 yards of it. 4) LB another freak athlete who can play sideline to sideline with Kiko would make the defense dynamic. The Bradham/Moats role has been a weak spot when they're on the field. Lawson has been admirable, but acquiring a true 3 down guy and playing Lawson on obvious rush downs would be an upgrade IMO Other runners up for me are the dime DB spot and then depth positions along both lines and at safety. -
If they could get an upgrade at RT and LG Urbik wouldn't be so bad. "Good lines" frequently have an average player amongst the 5 who is insulated by the play of his teammates. For example if Urbik was the weak link as an average player, it would be more difficult for opponents to exploit than Legursky as a scrub as the weak link

He's been cut or traded by 3 teams and barely seen the field. Clearly Green Bay's offensive system fits favorably with his skill set.
-
He's only ever done anything of substance in a Packers uniform. Whether its the offensive system they run, his fit within that system, the talent around him, or a combination of all 3....something about Green Bay brings out the best in Flynn

Bills have a 50/50 shot of playing on Thanksgiving day vs. Detroit. Dallas had the AFC opponent in 2013, so Detroit gets it in 2014. Buffalo and Miami are the Lions' home AFC opponents. So there's that.
-
I'm sure they will pay Stevie all but 25,000 of his 2014 salary to play elsewhere. They've already got $12.5 million in dead money, what's another 6 or 7 on top? That strategy seems to be working real well in Dallas, Oakland and Washington
-
Alshon Jeffery could have been catching that pass from Russell Wilson if the Bills followed the draft I wanted them to. Sadness!
-
Depends what on what slot and what players go. Unless you're offered the moon, sun and stars, I can't see a front office justifying passing up a player like Jake Matthews or Clowney. Unless it was just moving down say, 2 picks and you KNOW your guy will still be there
