MMQB Deep Dive: Bills D vs. Pats* O
Rockinon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I'm going to say it. The Buffalo defense is as good as any in the NFL. There is one reason and one reason only that they are not ranked higher.....the Buffalo offense. If the offense can stay on the field, sustain drives and score, the defense can easily move up to #1. These guys are good and defense wins championships. After watching Kyle Orton help to move the chains last week, I'm pretty confident about the offense, too. Suddenly the offense looks like it got just the spark it needed to explode. That being said, NE is going down.....hard. Can't wait. I'll be there along with my wife and sister. We're going to be there to watch the end of a dynasty. Going to get loud and raucous. -
Please tell me why Kyle Orton is not the long term answer ?

Did The Patriots Show Their Hand Against The Bengals?
Rockinon replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bengals didn't bring the heat against Brady. Brady will be facing the best defensive line they have faced this season when they come to the Ralph. Bills are going roll right over them. That okey doke crap they pulled on the Bengals ain't gonna work next week. Plus, that defense of theirs is over rated. -
SNF: Bengals at Patriots - 8:30 PM EDT

Can't wait. I live up in Potsdam, NY. Grew up in Newfane, NY. We got a cottage on lake Ontario just north of Newfane. Will be there on Thursday to meet up with my younger sister. Just a short drive to the stadium from there. We'll be at the game along with some more family. Going to be a good one! -
They are also #1 in 3rd stop percentage.

The comments below this article are hilarious!

Judging from comments by some of the receivers, Orton took control of the offense from the get go. He told each receiver what he expected of them. I think EJ was being told what to do instead of taking command of the offense himself. Orton may not be Brady, Brees, Rivers etc, but he did what a veteran QB is expected to do....take charge. I really don't think Orton's throws exceptionally special. He just knows what to do and then goes out and get's the job done. I'm impressed that he was able to do this so quickly. You could see he was knocking some rust off in the 1st half, but what a great second half! Orton has been with the team long enough to know the plays. What separates him from EJ is that he makes it clear exactly how he wants routes to be run based on his own experience. If EJ communicates what he wants out of the receivers maybe he starts to perform better. He just needs to step up and take command instead of calling timeouts and running to the sideline so he can be told what to do.

It was Fitz against NE the last time a Bills QB threw for 300+

The TD and the 2pt conversion were huge. Going up against the #1 defense, I'd say not too shabby. Orton gets some more reps with the 1's and he could do some damage. And yes, the D should be recognized for their effort. I think they played better than the Detroit defense. May even move up in front of Detroit. Can the Bills have the #1 defense?

Under the circumstances...how do you think Orton is doing? Other than the pick 6....he might be all right. Don't know if he's got enough 1st team reps to pull this off, but he does not look as lost as EJ. Did a couple of things managing the clock there at the end of the half that I thought were pretty heads up. -
Does anyone still support EJ or Hackett?
Rockinon replied to NextYearGuys's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a pretty intuitive way of looking at it. However, I'd like add some more to this. Last year, Hackett was pushing hard to go faster with a hurry up offense. The practices are fast paced. The problem with this is a QB needs time to absorb what they are learning. I think a better approach is to run your offense slow but emphasize quick reads. Once a QB is able to make decisions quickly, you can then turn up the speed dial. We are dealing with not only a young inexperienced QB but also a young inexperienced coach. You can't be expected to come out making quick reads and managing a hurry up without the experience. I think the coaches have put a lot of pressure on the young man. Add in also some offensive linemen that have had to learn on the fly while going up against some great defenses and the pressure on the QB goes up even further. EJ will be fine. It sucks for him that has to benched, but he may learn about taking control of the huddle, making his reads quicker and getting the ball where it needs to be by watching a 10 year veteran at work. He does have the talent. All he needs is time to grow into his job.... something he has not been given. Unfortunately for him, he ran out of time. The team is bigger than EJ and the coach knows this team as a whole is ready to win now. There just isn't enough time to get EJ ready and win games now. Winning is the bottom line in this league. -
Week 5: Lions' Game Preparation
Rockinon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just read this in the Chris Brown piece "No weak links allowed on defense". Can you imagine how good the defense would be rated if they actually had an offense that was staying on the field long enough to put up 7pts regularly? All of the news about the Lions defense has me thinking that the Bills defense is somewhat overlooked. You can bet this unit is going to be bringing some heat tomorrow. Was just noticing also that the Bills are not the only team with offensive line problems. The Lions are allowing a lot of sacks and they are banged up at some key positions too. This game is winnable. Won't be easy going on the road to get it, but the D isn't going down without a fight. Now all we need is some offense. This could be a game that comes down to field position and special teams. -
1st Bills offensive play from scrimmage tomorrow?

Orton drops back and is immediately dropped for a 6yd sack. -
Kyle Orton in action vs. the Eagles (video)
Rockinon replied to QCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually think our big offensive line will be OK this week. Detroit has a powerful OL but they don't move people around like Houston. There aren't a lot of stunts. They just line up and beat their man....collapse the pocket. This is exactly the type of defensive line our OL was made to compete against. Remember, our offensive line is big and strong too...they just have been getting their asses handed to them with linemen moving around and disguising the pressure. Detroit's defense is good though. Even though they do not do a lot of stunts, they can beat people with sheer physicality. This might be a better match up than we thought. If Kyle can get the ball out fast to our play makers, this game could be real fun to watch. -
Miami has the easy road this qtr. The Jets are doomed. NE? I have no idea how they will do. And I think Buf wins 3. If we beat Det. at home, we're going on a 4 game win streak.

Great post! You might be on to something.

Week 5: Lions' Game Preparation

We ride that horse to death. -
Why all the hand wringing over these replies? It seems Sammy and Kyle are merely being frank when asked a question. In Sammy's case, he is simply stating an observation and does not sound like he is taking a jab at EJ.....sounds more like he is complimenting Kyle. If we are so worried about EJ's sensibilities, I think that is a bigger mistake. The only way to correct something that you are not doing well is to accept it, try to do better and move on. That's what grown ups do. He is not a grade schooler. EJ will be fine. As for Kyle....all I can say is wow! He is absolutely right. Crap question.....loaded question. And I love the reply!

You know, I have been wondering about that too. EJ is a young QB facing some pretty good defensive fronts. Wonder if he is being asked to do too much.
