  1. I think you are missing the point, at the time of the trade in 1967, many thought we got a great deal. After Lamonica went on the lead the Raiders to the playoffs for the next decade and both players the Bills obtained burned out we quickly realized we were taken. The bottom line is Tom Flores was a top QB and Art Powell a top receiver in 1966, the Bills had a great defense and not so great offense. Glen Bass and Lamonica were 2nd Team players, so many got kind of excited; by the fourth game reality set in. Joel Collier was one of the greatest Defensive coaches in NFL history but a lousy HC. John Rauch won at Oakland and bombed in Buffalo.
  2. Sestak was great in his day, he was not known as a speed guy. Not sure he would make much of an impact in today's NFL.
  3. Hell yes, another personality never gain to be found in the NFL.
  4. What a great era of football; the American Football League. I was fortunate enough to see every team in the AFL play at War Memorial, a different time for sure.
  5. Powell started off the 67 season on fire then injured his knee and never recovered, but he was the premier AFL wide out at the time. Tom Flores and Art Powell connected explosively in the first game an NFL Team visited the ole rockpile for a preseason game. The game (Eagles) had intensity and was competitive until Tom Flores injured his throwing arm and never recovered. I woefully admit that as a young ten year old who collected trading cards and loved the AFL, thought we got the deal. For you old timers, the Bills - Eagles preseason game was awesome, never seen an exhibition game played in that manner again. Playoff atmosphere in August, Tom Flores gets hurt after burning up the field with Art Powell, the sellout crowd boo's Jack Kemp as he enters the game. Kemp responds by throwing an immediate 60 yard TD strike to Albert Dubenion to turning boo's into a standing ovation. The GM was Harvey Johnson, who coached the Bills in 68 and 71 with horrendous results; two victories combined.
  6. My father was close friends with an Assistant Coach at the time and verified Lamonica's extracurricular activities. However, Flores was coming off a solid year and Art Powell was a great WR at the time, Bills felt they needed offense.
  7. I lived through that and watched it for years after the fact; painful, very painful.
  8. Watch him throw that last three games, his long balls are high and wobbly, duck balls.
  9. Great post, I too think his arm is slowly fading, but he can still beat you. I hope he retires at the end of the season avoiding a painful season when his arm is really finished.
  10. My opinion is they are not a playoff caliber team and still far from it, they have no offense, poor coaching, poor drafting, and a weak FO. Finally some reality. Someone else who lives in Realville.
  11. This is a failed organization - total failure - tear it down and start again. And your source for this is????
  12. Watching him play the last few weeks, it appears his arm is gone. Watch the passes he is throwing, some are duck balls, wobbly and high, up for grabs. I think this is his last year, too bad, one of the greats.
  13. Could not agree more, however, this is another reflection of the organizational failures over the last 15 years. Poor coaching, weak FO, etc.
  14. I can really identify with this post, sat in the ole rockpile and watched the Bills get bombed by KC on 1 January 1967 blowing a chance at the first SB.
  15. Been hearing this since 1999; we are now excited over a meaningful game in December and breaking .500.
  16. Never underestimate the posts you find on this board.
