  1. Yup. We have a very interesting Governor's race in the making in Illiinois. Bruce Rauner, a wealthy businessman, is running and has a large lead in the Republican primary polls. Should he prevail in the Primary, he'll run against a vulnerable incumbent governor Quinn who barely won in 2010. It'll be a very interesting race and a big national story if Illinois elects a conservative non-politician as Governor. Rauner is a no BS kinda guy and will really shake the trees if elected. Will be fun to watch.
  2. The numbers are pre-tax. It's not hard to understand why a wealthy person in the U.S who pays 50% of their hard earned income to the state and federal government (only to see those governments spend their hard earned money in irresponsible ways or buy votes from others with their hard earned money) becomes very upset with said government. And let's be clear, the hardest working Americans are generally the rich. Not only are they the hardest working but they often take more risk and have more responsibility by far than those that are not wealthy. Generally, they've earned it and they deserve their success and no government should confiscate such a large portion of their hard earned income and use it to to fund redistributive practices in order to keep said government in power. An article which reported on how the rich get rich would be far more useful and inspiring.
  3. More and more a flat tax makes sense. Charge people equally for the government that we have. Charge them what it really cost to fund SS, Medicare and Medicaid. Then, once everyone has the same skin in the game, we'll see who gets elected. Pipe dream, I know.
  4. How much debt is too much? Is there a number? If we never retire the debt (and it's a far-fetched idea that we ever will) how much is too much to spend on debt service every year? If the cost to service our debt increases significantly in relation to the economy, how will we pay for that? Will we cut other spending? What will we cut? If not will we raise taxes? How much more in taxes are you willing to pay so that we can pay our bills? If we raise taxes will that slow economic growth? If we don't pay our bills will we simply borrow more? Won't more borrowing increase the cost to service the debt? Where does this end? This is a large plank in the Tea Party platform, but I look forward to the answers to these questions.
  5. No, the coverup is the point. Any time a lack of necessary action is followed by lies and excuses, there is a big problem.
  6. O come on everybody, how do you expect Democrat politicians to get votes in November if they can't use class warfare and fairness as a platform and who is going to pay for their votes? Certainly not their voters. In the end, voters are idiots.
  7. A softball interview for sure. Apparently she declined to give Fox an interview.
  8. Mayor of Hoboken just finished a long interview on CNN. She came off as credible although it's clear that there were discussions about development projects which were not at all tied to Sandy relief. Was she pressured? To what extent? Was relief delayed or not given? Hard to say hearing one side of the story.
  9. Depends on how fast you are traveling and whether or not there is a pedestrian/cyclist/other car in the intersection. Legalizing a drug which often leads users to other drugs, will increase the number of intoxicated drivers on the road and thus traffic injuries and deaths, will increase law enforcement costs, will increase health care costs for drug rehab and other health related issues is totally !@#$ing batshit assinine.
  10. Had Obama come out after the incident and explained what happened, who was responsible, what they tried to do to stop it and why their options to stop it were limited - this would be a completely different deal. Instead this is a big problem because: The requests for increased security were mostly ignored When the attack happened, we took no action and in fact made a decision not to act Sent a high ranking official out in public to spin the video story knowing it wasn't true. Obama himself offered the video excuse knowing it wasn't true Hillary used the video excuse in a direct conversation with one of the victim's family members Chose not to answer questions completely or honestly at a congressional hearing on the matter Put a gag order on others who were in the know Virtually nobody has been held accountable except of course for those who died You don't see this as very problematic?
  11. Hey, we agree on that. She'll run against Begich, a Democrat. We agree she should replace him.
  12. And of course the question as to who and how CGI was selected as the provider will never be answered.
  13. Just trying to get through the weekend without wearing your seal of idiocy.
  14. Your problem is your belief system is really fouled up. I have come across others with similar positions to yours on many issues and I frankly don't know how people living in this country can grow to be adults with their eyes and ears open and have the views they have. I suppose we are all products of our environments, our attitudes and our efforts. On this particular topic, there should be no less than 100% agreement (which includes you and me and everyone else here) that the people that carried out the IRS discrimination against conservative groups should be fired and questioned under oath as to who put them up to the act. Then those that put them up to it should also be terminated. Using the IRS as a political tool is a shameful act, and in comparison is substantially more damning than Watergate. All of us as American citizens should agree on that.
  15. BenGhazi and Hillary's record of basically zero accomplishments as a Senator and SOS will be very problematic for her if she runs. Your camp should be looking for another candidate.
  16. They aren't going to charge people who simply did what they were asked to do.
  17. You gotta love a report that blacks out pertinent names and details and one that is so long winded, few will read it thoroughly. Foolish of me to have hoped for a few pages of bullets that net out facts, dates, times, etc...
  18. The leading candidate in the polls for the Republican party has no chance? If he's telling the truth about not knowing he looks like a hero given the swift action he took. People will line up for that kind of conviction.
  19. Interesting numbers. I didn't expect to see an increase in the older workforce as older workers are often passed up for younger ones but the explanation that many can't afford to retire makes sense. Sucks for the younger folks and it's a sign of the weak economy. The forecast is crappy. We need some meaningful pro-growth policy shifts and to me we have to find a way to bring back large-scale manufacturing to this country.
  20. PPP would be a better place if this thread were closed.
  21. I think Christie's critics would have been very satisfied if he simply would have said at the presser "What difference at this point does it make?"
  22. It is brilliant and quite possibly deliberate. The supporters of the bill don't give a **** if Obamacare runs up red a lot of red ink and having this little loophole means that people will find a way around it and will be more likely to vote Dem since they aren't being hit in the pocketbook. Simply revise your W-4 to minimize withholding and the fine/tax won't apply to you. After all, what this bill is really about is giving away health insurance to those that can't afford it and putting the burden of higher costs onto the wealthy and anyone who has a "good job" and their employers.
  23. I don't think Wade will be hired by anyone and will retire.
  24. If I don't like my insurance company, I can stop paying them and buy insurance somewhere else. I can also call them on the phone and scream bloody murder and get some results. I can put pressure on a private insurer in a number of ways if I don't like their service or way of doing business. If I don't like a decision by the government, there's very little I can do about it and if I make too much noise, I get punished further. Case in point: A couple years ago I had a beef with the Illinois Department of Employment regarding our unemployment insurance rate (which is paid to the government). We were right in that they were overcharging our business (and nearly all businesses in the state) for unemployment insurance. I made a complaint to my state representative. I was seriously considering going public with it. The representative responded to me that the calculation was correct (which it wasn't) and a couple weeks after that an auditor from that department showed up at our door and spent 2 days on site looking at years of our employment tax and other filings. The auditor left without a dime, but if you think this is a coincidence, you are an idiot as others have pointed out. Did you happen to see the story of Doctor Ben Carson being audited by the IRS? Coincidence? I don' think so. Neither does he.
