  1. What's great is the deep down inside realization by leftists that she was so bad that usually reliable democrat voters put Trump over the top in places like PA, MI, WI and others. That's gotta be a really good burn or bern.
  2. When you play for the right....er.....left team, you get favorable treatment.
  3. So the Obama administration delegated the security of an election to McConnell?
  4. Agree. He probably has a tougher time maintaining the balance of the weight through the exercise. He won't have the same feeling of the bar as someone with 2 hands. If he were using a machine it might be different but with free weight that has to be harder.
  5. Do you think that a 25% tariff on steel imports will actually happen for any meaningful amount of time?
  6. I only read this particular link and it's not convincing data IMO at all. To correlate the increase in guns deaths to that ruling which confirmed the right to own a handgun for protection you would have to directly tie new handgun ownership to those deaths. In other words show that more people bought handguns as a result of that ruling and those particular guns were used to kill people. Then you'd have to show that those killed were not justified killings. What is probably more likely given the timing of the increase on the chart (2014) is that less aggressive police work in high risk areas was deployed in reaction to the BLM push. I've spoken with people in Chicago law enforcement and they have stated that both through police procedure changes and also self imposed practice changes, they are less likely to take some of the risks necessary to prevent violent crimes. They have instead taken more of a posture of cleaning up the mess after it happens.
  7. That's a fair criticism of my post. My feeling is this: Guns that can shoot 40+ rounds a minute are not necessary for people to protect themselves or their property. A very small percentage of those that buy these weapons do so to kill others and these weapons allow them to be very destructive very quickly. Are we better as a society with weapons such as this available or not? I say not. People can enjoy guns, hunting and protection with a little less. Just maybe a change in the law might slow down one of these terrorists and make it easier to take them out in the act. I'm with Colonel Peters on this one. I get that much of the left's end game is the total removal (or nearly so) of guns in the hands of civilians and that events such as Parkland and Vegas help them push public opinion in their direction. I'm all for new ways to keep weapons out of the hands of those with bad intentions that don't impede the rights of the responsible. Tough to do but maybe there are things in the areas of training and background review that will make a difference. We have to realize that we are a free society and that we can't be protected from nuts everywhere. We should probably deploy more protection in schools, at concerts and other venues where large groups are present that aren't protected.
  8. Colonel Ralph Peters made a decent pitch recently on why the AR-15 should be banned or limited. Apologies if this has been posted before. Personally I wouldn't have a problem eliminating or significantly restricting the sale of these guns and I'm not opposed to a more thorough background system and some kind of additional training requirement if laws were passed. I don't see any of these 3 changes as too limiting with the possible exception of psychological restrictions. Where exactly do you draw the line there? I also don't see these changes saving many lives. In the Florida example there was a succession of failures that allowed that !@#$ to do what he did. I will say this though, had the officer on site confronted the shooter the officer would have been at a disadvantage weapons-wise. It's truly sad that an officer was there and chose retirement over doing his job. Schools if they want to prevent this IMO have to have well trained, experienced and armed police or others on site. Otherwise they are a very soft target. In the Florida case though the shooter probably knew there was an officer in the school. That didn't stop him from doing it. Our district has armed police officers in most of the schools. Maybe all of them. In Vegas it took too long to disarm the shooter and the target was very soft. We already have laws on the books making it illegal to shoot a bunch of people or threaten to do so or run people over with a truck. Those laws haven't stopped the attacks. Tighter gun laws likely won't prevent the bad apples from using high speed and high capacity guns. They'll get them or build them. In this political climate I don't see much federal law change happening. Peters. http://video.foxnews.com/v/5739834858001/?#sp=show-clips
  9. Best of luck to you for ongoing good health and thanks for your perspective. Best to JK on putting this in the rear view mirror once again.
  10. Pardon me for jumping in late. Have only read some of this thread. It can be argued I suppose that over a couple hundred years the peoples right to bear "arms" has been infringed. Arms capability has evolved significantly and restrictions on what arms the people can own have been put into place. I can't buy a bazooka or a fully automatic gun legally. The government's weapons today have a significant destructive advantage over what the people can own. That wasn't so much the case back in the 1700's. We've had a lot of rules creep over time. Strict constitutionalists can likely make very good arguments against further restrictions on gun ownership. What changes to the law are you suggesting?
  11. Yes and he went to Benedictine college just down the road from me. Tiny school. Shows you that some scouts dig deep. Also Carl Byrum, FB and he crossed the picket line during '87 strike as did Lawrence Taylor for the Giants. Bills and Giants played a 6-3 OT thriller I believe with strike teams and Taylor when interviewed after the game complimented Byrum as "a guy who can play in the league". Taylor apparently didn't know Carl was a real Bill.
  12. True, but I don't think enough voters pay close enough attention and most of the media won't report the truth.
  13. That and taking a Republican deal threatens to shut off the ongoing stream of illegal immigrants and deny most that are here a path to citizenship. The Dems want to flood the zone with new voters want them all to be citizens. It's better politically to wait until after both 2018 and 2020 elections in the event the the house flips or becomes closer to 50-50 and Trump loses to a Dem. If that happens they have a shot at a broader deal or can then again blame obstructionist Republicans. There is no downside for Dems to keep kicking the can down the road. Status quo works for them.
  14. Obviously the Russians hacked Hillary's travel schedule and knew she wasn't going to campaign in those states after a certain date so they focused their meddling in areas where it was needed more.
  15. If people want schools to be secured then we need to better secure them. Our local district has armed real police in every middle school and high school. I'm not sure about the elementary schools. Not only do we have no shootings, we also have drug arrests and others that occasionally take place as a result of the police being on-site. Interestingly in other areas of the Chicago burbs there are schools that probably need police on the premises to a greater degree than ours and they have none.
  16. It's simply not believable that any man meets a woman in a building for the first time and immediately proceeds with that behavior.
  17. Yeah, the Pope is Catholic.
  18. Dems don't like it as it makes it harder to turn Texas and Arizona blue down the road.
  19. Obama resembles Nixon in that one.
  20. I think you and D.R. should hook up and write together. He'll provide the research, the factual backdrop and the critical analysis. You can provide the abstract fiction.
  21. God forbid that a bill passes a body of congress with bi-partisan support.
  22. Now, we know these Democrats. If they were sure that Mueller’s report was going to spell doom for the Trump administration, they wouldn’t care one bit about the appropriateness of releasing it around an election. https://twitchy.com/jacobb-38/2018/02/18/getting-nervous-dem-sen-warns-mueller-not-to-release-his-findings-near-the-election/ So Casey, voters shouldn't get the truth before the election, whatever the truth is? Or had Mueller never been appointed.
  23. Obama was awful but Republicans had no chance in '08 coming off of Bush. What's a shame IMO is that we didn't just re-elect Mitt Romney in 2016. Mitt in my view is smart, presidential, capable, experienced and has expressed solid policy positions.
  24. Seems like a good time to revisit this.
