Teachers: Keep political views to yourself

or ferme la bouche! or fou toi! -
Stop you whining, this is probably one of the best things a high school student can do, getting out of their selfish little world and giving back. I just saw about twenty sitting in a circle on the steps of shopping plaza in the assumed doobie formation. It will keep kids out of trouble. My church in high school had us do a lot of community service and I did a lot in college. I still volunteer and I have two kids I am raising as Mr. Mom, while I am running a photography business. It is called time management. Stop being so selfish. If you did there would be less need for all those government programs. You would get to actually practice one of those Republican family values you like to tell other people they should do.

I did too and still found time to do community service you lazy ship....

No, lots of schools do this already. UMass requires it if you want to graduate cum laude or higher.

Good and that is as it should be. That is what civil discourse is, but if she had a spine, she should tell you to stfd and pay attention and then when it was your turn to speak, you could voice your opinion and give you a time limit. Nice brow beating though Do you go to a private University? If not, she should start up the discussion in French. I would love be there to be your loyal opposition... Prendre une coulure (SP). -

I think you are over reacting on your punishment. The teacher should view to tape with her superior and point out that she went too far criticizing McCain in the classroom. I have seen and had worse done to me, especially in Math and English Class at this age, but for younger children such as these you may be right. She should have asked the children what they thought were the things they didn't like about the other candidate and not injected her two cents or especially making it personal by mentioning the child's dad in the conversation, that was wrong. As far as the campaign button... that is pretty harmless, but as a Public Servant, she should probably not wear one in class. I don't have a problem of teachers talking about their politics in class as long as it is their opinion. We did in middle school and were taught to work on our arguments and be prepared to defend them and we did often criticizing and picking apart our teacher's politics. However, she crossed the line when she made it personal and that was wrong. -

In this case it is probably not a bad thing... P.S. put some dollars into a company that makes cloth bags. Problem is they are probably made in China. Local shopping place is selling 4 for $5. It works and after about 4 trips they pay for themselves at .6 a plastic bag! -
You raise some interesting points. I don't think this is a Palin driven event, but I believe that she pissed of the McCain staff and they have an agenda to both discredit her and combined with other potential competitors in the Republican party wanting to run in 2012... Romney, I am sure they are working hard to bring her back down to earth. The more I think about it, it does sound like a Romney smear. He often had his minions do this up in MA.

And this is a surprise in Alaska, the seat of corruption. Even Palin thinks it is okay to steal the clothes paid for by donors of the Republican Party.

Vichy Joe Lieberman

I stand corrected, it was Senator Reid who endorsed Lamont. Even more interesting. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5698889 -

Agreed, good riddance, with friends like him, I would rather make nice with Republicans. -

I say he should lose all Chairmanships, but keep his seniority on the committees. He needs to pay a price for his disloyalty. He still votes with Dems about 80 percent of the time, about 30-40% above Republicans. -

STFU, Dodd endorsed his opponent and Joe lost the Dem nominiation, you don't know what you are talking about. -
The question I have for this board is would tuition rates have risen any where near as fast if the number of students attending college had not increased exponentially with or without subsidies? Another words did subsidies create the increase in demand or would that have happened anyway at near the same levels as we are seeing?

Wonder if Hagel is names Secretary of Defense or head of the State Dept.??? They would be a good roles for him. P.S. Dems may yet get to 60. Minnesota and Georgia look like the longest shots, but it is possible with Smith going down today. AK is still in the mix. -
NYS Senate is Democrat

More curious about school, town and county taxes. Jeez, no wonder NY State is F'd. They need to eliminate at least one, possibly two layers of gov. Even Massachusetts is not that bad, just property, sales and some user taxes. -

How does the school tax show up? Is that part of income, sales or part of property tax? -

Question, who controls local property tax rates in NY State, the county, the locality??? The school system? -
College Enrollment rates, historical date trend lines and date, two graphs http://nces.ed.gov/programs/youthindicator...ubPageNumber=22 http://nces.ed.gov/programs/youthindicator...blesHTML/22.asp http://nces.ed.gov/programs/coe/2008/chart....asp?popup=true One of largest increases have come from women. This combined with increased income in the 90s could intuitively explain the large increases in tuition. Combined with the fact the loans have been relatively cheap and accessible it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why tuition and fees have increased especially at State Institutions.

It has been going on a lot longer than W. It has been increasing as much as the stock market and housing costs. As more folks had more money, tuition and health care inflation has been rampant as demand has increased exponentially. There are more people going to college now then ever before. Simple supply and demand.

Pretty much and that is why college have been getting away with charging so much despite cutting the number of professors. They basically have been landlords and local land owners. GW, my alma mater was written up in the Post a few years back calling it "The Thing That Ate Foggy Bottom." Columbia has recently been doing the same to Harlem and the list goes on.

And that is the problem, teachers and parents don't know and aren't following the law if this is even true. -

Pricely, because class sizes are high, facilities are run down and crime is high and in a lot of poorer areas which are bad neighborhoods. Good teachers don't want to work under those conditions. Cherry picking students whose parents actually care enough to enroll them in the lottery shows something. Plus Charter school teachers are given a lot more authority over students and have the threat if they don't behave to send them back to public schools, which is a big! Stick. There is no such leverage in a low income public school where the majority of students don't want to learn. Also, I believe that a lot of students who are not interested or incapable of learning by standard methods should be considered for the BOCE's program and funding for it should be increased. Practicle learning works better for certain types of students, yet we all want to put students in one type of box and claim others who don't fit in that box are problems. The more they learn about brain activity and different strengths and weakenesses of children the better school systems can more effectively teach different learning styles. But often standardized testing and large class rooms prevent this type of teaching and these students inappropriately get lumped in with special ed.
