  1. Coli, though I wouldn't call you names. Actually retard pisses me off, too many family members with neuro disorders including my son. That being said, I have to agree that what is taught in schools at times should be left to the Parents whether they do anything with that power or not. I have seen and had too many teachers on both sides of the aisle that insist on being the authority on something instead of encouraging students to seek their own understanding. Kids will learn on their own with or without their parents consent and because of the personal nature of the institution of marriage, I believe it should be left up to a child's family, just as I believe that Religion except as historical notes or as a comparative elective should not be taught in K-12. I have enough explaining to do with my boys than to have to fight some teacher over their opinion on this issue one way or another.
  2. Nice Post and while I am a died in the wool Dem, I am not monolithic. I can see Obama's potential flaws and his inexperience and policy proposals that I disagree with almost caused me to vote against him. That being said, I am hopeful that his election will encourage new political voices to gain strength from the many different cultures in this great country and continue our grand experiment greater inclusion in our democracy where otherwise we would be taking up arms against each other. Politics is not for the faint of heart, it takes commitment, working with people you often don't like even if you agree with them, the ability to listen and to compromise to allow others to have some of their voice acknowledged and it never ends, the debate continues, sometimes issues are re-debated, beaten into the ground, sometimes it gets down right nasty, but it somehow always continues and that is what makes this country so dynamic.
  3. That about describes it and the fervent religious folks don't want the word marriage to man that at all. I don't see the big deal, as long as one earlier poster says they have to comply with divorce laws too... From a libertarian perspective, why would what the state calls your relationship with another partner have any bearing on your commitment to that person under God. Another words, it doesn't take the state to sanctify my marriage IMO, only God. From a tax benefit position, equal laws and rules should apply.
  4. AD, I agree with your previous post on Gore, he never could overcome is woodeness on TV and his habit of over explaining things. Gore lost that one for the same reasons that Bush and Clinton won, they could get in touch with you and you felt that you could go out and have a beer with one of them. Also, this country still believes in balancing a budget and fiscal responsibility. Gore never was able to sell that he was on board with that one. However on this one, Obama has a reputation of over explaining things, yet he was able to keep his responses simple and he connected with people. McCain also did at times and tried to distance himself from Bush's failings. But his as#hol# streak, his lack of understanding about the economy, nor giving anyone a sense of who was working for him other than the same old Bush team including his campaign manager was an albatross he could never shake. Didn't help that Cheney endorsed him at the tail end. This country still is split on social issues, but both sides want fiscal responsibility, yet there are those in both parties that lose sight of the ball on this one and the electorate is more than willing to give them the boot when they do. P.S. 56-46 is still a large difference and larger than any of Bush's victories.
  5. Then there is no need to worry about Cap Gains tax increases.... there aren't any.
  6. Wrong it was Obama v. the past 8 years of Republican philosophy, which McCain could not divorce himself far enough from because with some modifications, it is part of his philosophy including the one of scare and fear. I miss the Reagan Republican philosophy of "Can Do."
  7. Just more of your scare and fear drivel, not saying I didn't do it when the shoe was on the other foot, but that is what it is. We shall see. So you are actually rooting against this guy's success? Now that is UnAmerican. I hoped Bush would succeed. I always did for the good of this country, but I didn't believe in his policies.
  8. I agree... Shays is truly one of the nice guys on the Hill. My mom went to high school with Chris and his brother. I met him on the hill and he could not have been more gracious. He is my kind of Republican and you described him well.
  9. Unlikely, he/she is a spoiled brat, they get what they want no matter the cost
  10. Cool... My wife and I watch in our living room while one of our boys with a sore throat slept on the coach next to us. Pretty amazing no matter your politics.
  11. I have video of my wife walking down the road in almost waste deep water. The scary thing is she was pregnant at the time though we didn't know it yet.
  12. Yes, we were just South of the Wilson bridge in a hundred year flood area. The Cane pushed 11 feet of the Potomac up River over our 7.5 foot flood control. It was a slow mover, but the Potomac River came in our house...a bio hazard at that point south of Blue Plains(the DC waste treatment center) The whole first floor had to be torn up, decontaminated and re-done. We were not that bad as others, we did not have a basement and were on a little higher ground. Probably about 20 square blocks were underwater, so was lower old town Alexandria. The water was gone by 3pm the next day.
  13. My heart is breaking for all those spoiled overpaid prima donas, I say balance the budget with the a@#$. You can throw in some of those useless wall street executive parasites.
  14. I do know his advisers Plouffe and Rouse, worked with and for them and they are very smart... They listen well and are great evaluators as well as demanding in a reserved kind of way. You will not know much of what they tell Obama, especially Rouse, they don't work that way. Not sure if they will be any more intelligent, but their style will be different, meticulous and patient except when they need to make something happen, but you won't know they have made the decision until after it happens. Watch, listen and learn....
  15. It works, much more peaceful. Now am an hour train outside of NYC, in the middle of a bunch of horse farms, small lakes and golf courses... Yet I still get to get my city fix when needed.
  16. I just said I took a break....??? I actual decision on the job front, was not made till after the election. The offer on the House was made in December and we settled at the end of Jan. But I no longer wanted to work in the nasty partisan atmosphere that had become DC. Talking out loud WTF am having to justify, simply the Election confirmed and made me actually go out and execute my decision.... it was not an easy one having spent 21 years in DC.
  17. Partly, the decision was actually made that August during Reagan's funeral when the idiot Republican Governor of Kentucky decided to invade DC air space, coming in for the funeral and our "annunciators" barked "in coming unidentified plane... RUN!" Once we found out it was a false alarm I told my wife that I was done, she responded bout time. The campaign and the elections just reinforced it. We bought a house that December in MA. My first son was 2 months old. It was the straw in the camels back after 911, Antrax, the sniper, Hurricane Isabel... our house got flooded, the Ricin deal and all the other don't go down this corridor, clear the building crap. We were done.
  18. That sounds about what I might have said after that campaign, but then I took a break. I also agreed the Kerry should have won that one if he actually knew how to run an election. He responded too late and ineffectively to swift boating and then he went wind surfing in August.... The man deserved to lose and it P.S. GWBush's second term, the jury was no longer out on him....so stick that in you nasty little pipe and smoke it
  19. I am just tired... I know it never ends. Both of my boys were up last night sick... and I am tired of the whining and bickering. But politics is politics and bickering and whining is part of the game. P.S. in 2004 I don't if or what I posted probably not much, but I did take a break, left Capitol Hill and moved my family then to Massachusetts. Call me what you want but on that deal I practiced what I preached....
  20. Palin may have energized blue collar conservatives, but the data shows that she killed McCain with the soccer Moms in suburbia, which is why he lost PA and OH.
  21. Just another part of the reason why McCain lost... Hope trumps Fear OK RWers go back into your caves where you belong.
  22. Go have Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks and lets all give cynical partisan politics a break for a little while. Anyone who is not congratulating Obama now IMO just needs to go stick their head in the sand and SFU. There will be time for criticism.... now is a time to breath and take stock.
  23. Agreed, that is why you rarely have to worry about what others think about you, they are too busy worried about their own little world...
  24. Who is your accountant??? Fire him or her now. It is either that or stop lying.
