Bailout Deal Looks Dead
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That is a nice lie the RW keeps repeating, but Unions especially the UAW have been changing and they came to the table. But it is kind a like Stephan Marbury with the Knicks, why would he give up money all ready obligated to him unless he was going to a situation that was going to help him out in the future. I think the guys is a joke, but if the Knicks are going to poison the well in negotiations, why should he give up what is legally owed him??? And to further the argument, the UAW is willing to make concessions, but it doesn't sound like management of the big three are, so go take you misinformation and stow you RW talking points unless you can actually provide a solution that is worthy of discussion... -

And Toyota, BMW and Honda aren't licking Shelby's... please. At least UAW was willing to come to the table, the Republicans wouldn't even be above board with what they were shoveling and now even the WH understands that if the Auto dealers declare bankruptcy, the suppliers are going to too and then we are in a real mess. Get off you ant-union high horse and quit blaming unions for the Big Three's problems, start with management and the Republican's management of this economy. The old Republican adage" "its our way or the highway, no negotiations and we aren't going to be an honest broker, our agenda is to try and break the other side, not provide a real solution.... Nice bi-partisan politics.... P.S. Open up Toyota's books and find out what they are really paying their workers including our's and foreign countries' subsidies.... When all the dollars are actually on the table, then lets find a level wage equity... Until then quit blaming the unions and trying to violate a legal contract by illegitimate means. Take your right to be fired states and suffer the consequences.... That is just what workers is this country need, more Walmart Southern style ill hospitality.... Smile at them as we stab them in the back and screw them every chance we get.... Oh, throw in a little Enron fraud and then we are really in business... At least Blago had the guts to ask for his money up front, a mistake mind you and illegal, but not any less immoral with what these Southern Senators are doing. -

Pillow munchers, that is a new one, what is it???.... You do have a right to free speech and to be stupid and to insult me, so what. I was just commenting on the fact that you knuckle draggers... oh sorry troglodytes appear to be alive and well despite the appearance of the Messiah. And as far as killing babies, that is just a matter of timing... the old adage with your crowd is you libs birth... we'll kill 'em... say in a useless poorly run war on Iraq.

Unemployment

Sorry, NYC and Westchester are both talking about it. Crazy when I know folks in Northern Westchester paying over $20,000 a year for a postage stamp house in property taxes, school taxes and county taxes. What the hell. http://lohud.com/article/2008812040469 http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/1...rk_city_ma.html -

The real thing is what now, not that this is a big surprise, but it looks like we will be flushing this out for a while with more bad news probably coming down the pike and NY is talking about raising taxes... on what? They already have folks by the throat. -

I am, but couldn't resist after getting on and seeing all the RW hack topics. -
Yikes, Dow down 150 immediately, scary and October and Sept revised downward too... almost a million in the last three months. This one month is the largest since 1974, good old Bush economics comin' home to roost.

Government Waste Planned Parent Hood Intolerant Bigotry of the Liberal Left Civil Liberty Literacy Test Hippies Go to Washington only a couple of LWers, ah, I was just wondering why NY counties keep talking about raising taxes in an economic downturn. Even the Messiah has enough sense to abandon that idea.

They just want to make sure you live where you say you are living, hence the mail, just one last check, get over it... talk about immediate gratification. -
Good luck it ain't happening unless you know someone from Chi Town. I made some calls and I forget what they said tickets were going for. Also, dress warm and don't bring anything in your pockets, it will be taken and you won't get it back. This is not a football game or something, the feds will dump it in a pile and send it to their burn furnaces. Security is going to be ridiculously tight and you will be frisked and watched at gun point.

Agreed is some respects, but your first paragraph gets at my point that folks making under 100k don't have any money and they are the ones that typically drive consumer spending. In fact Food Stamp recipients are reported to top 30 mil this month, eligibility is those making under 27k for a family of four, highest ever, even after post Katrina. Do some debt forgiveness on mortgages directly to the spenders and you immediately help out the stressed middle class, who will still have to spend and won't be holding on to their money tighter than the banks are right now. I am just saying, I know the personal responsibility argument etc.... We are all going to have to pay for this in the long run through our taxes, but if you are going to bail out Wall Street, ING, City etc than what about average 'Mericans and let it trickle up? Other than the moral hazard argument from those who like to get on their high horse, what from a macro or micro standpoint is the problem with this? Job creation is good, student loan forgiveness or partial forgiveness.... Things that are short-term and targeted?
-
I am not sure what all this means, my inclination is that it doesn't put money in the hands of homeowners allowing them to use their salary for something other than paying off debt. I know the moral hazard arguments, but this has the same moral hazard issue problem for banks and security companies so either why do it or Why not start where the root of the problem is, the over-mortgaged homeowner??? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...news&sub=AR

2.5 million jobs!
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Keukasmallie's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Ironically, I think McCain had it right, but the free marketers would rather bail out Wall Street and Detroit albeit with their noses plugged. McCain suggested bailing out homeowners.... the root of the problem and that would help solve the crisis. It would have been a lot better than giving away all those funds to scoflaw banks and do nothing car companies and it still would have trickled up to them as homeowner resolved debt, they would actually have some money to spend! Now the American consumer's wallets are being held tighter than Paulson's sphincter and isn't going to return to spending needed to keep all those failing companies afloat. But yes, lets bailout Citicorp, the king of predatory credit. -
