He isn't, now move along. -
You never quite get used to it. Spent three weeks over in France after college, a week and a half on the beaches in SW France. Best snapper I have ever seen and there was lots of it, but you had to be discreet. That is the hard part (pun intended) for Americans, not one of our strong suits. My suggestion if this were ever to happen, invest in sun glasses!

No weight to the Hondas, still don't believe those crash tests, according to who and under what circumstances? Not for a guy 6'2" 200lbs. I am not buying it, I have seen too many hondas torn up on the road. Would rather be in a big Mercedes or Volvo. -

Pay attention to the priorities of these folks. You can't have a bunch of Palin's running DC, they couldn't find Russia with both hands and a mirror from an Island across a strait, let alone know what the papers were saying about them including the Washington Slimes. -
Depends on the issue. Actually, I would argue the losers are Republicans and the wingnuts on both sides. Labor will probably be helped, enviros and diversity issues. But from a budget standpoint and to a lesser extent tax side of things it will be moderate with progressive priorities despite the budget limitations.

Understood, I used to manage NIH, a Navy grant and an Army grant at GW while I attended undergrad school. We received 45% admin costs, but Duke somehow managed to lower theirs to 12% with an efficient computer system and a centralized grant admin staff. And we had to go through the same crap. That being said, I threw out 12% figure because of Duke, not sure if that is the best, but somewhere closer to that than 45%. I am not saying for heavy technical military hardware, though some cost controls should be warranted. We are paying off too many folks just to get product including the lobbyists.

Maybe, but Toyotas are nortoriously unsafe cars and I would not buy either a Toyota or Honda if you paid me. A Prius is a death trap and the factory tires on those things are worthless and flat out dangerous. The problem is that they hit on something close to people heart, fuel economy at an affordable price and nice interiors. I loved my '95 Dodge Ram truck, but it ended up being a bucket of bolts. Great design, okay interior, good engine, but bad rear end and crap gas mileage. All Detroit had to do was make a few adjustments including lowering the HP a little, keep the price reasonable, add alternative fuel capable and a pickup is a very safe vehicle that now gets a lot better gas mileage. P.S. Next time I get a truck it will be a diesel flex fuel vehicle, if I get a new one, but they should have had an affordable one out already. GM does sort of but isn't marketing it well and it still doesn't get great mileage and costs more. -
You just lumped a couple of priorities together. Hell, I want to reduce military spending, but not to reduce effectiveness, but as a result of increased accountability and a reduction in military waste including elimination of these so called beltway bandit contractors. The first thing I would do is put administrative costs at 12% and only allow purchases for basic military goods, food and services to be charged at no more that 105% of a state's average retail price for that product if not less. There are plenty of other ways to reduce costs as well. Just these simple changes would save the taxpayers a bundle and should include weapons that are dual use--able to be sold to civilians. But that doesn't make me a pacifist. P.S. There is a very active anarchist crowd in the US, they protest the world bank as well. Their numbers are not politically significant however, but they are very adept at causing problems and a stir. But once again, don't overstate your case. Most pacifists don't agree with their tactics. I think you are confusing political groups.
-
I think you are overstating your case once again. Yes there are pacifist leftists though most understand the need for a military, they just want it used as a last resort. Also there are isolationist rightists as well, who think these conflicts are non-of our business and we should stay out of foreign entanglements. Combining these two with the more moderate but sympathetic elements of this ideal and they make up significant numbers, but to button hole all of them as pure pacifists ignores the issue and the problem they are concerned about. And that is the inappropriate use of military power in places such as Iraq. But you don't want actually have a discussion about it, you just want to hurl insults and produce nonsensical labels a la Matt Drudge lite!

Nice response... Really though, I heard on the news, the crews are unarmed because they don't wan't to be kidnapped and killed, also wasn't this a Saudi ship??? Heck, let them deal with it... they are the one's who are harboring terrorists anyway.... the bin Laden family... hmm. That being said, we probably don't want to give these guys a funding source so instead of letting them redistribute some of the Saudi wealth, I think was should hire some of these pirates and have them move the oil at a discounted price over here. We'll provide the transfer ship... Seriously, Nuke the Whales!

Believe it or not this is standard background check crap except the addition of the email and blog stuff. Depending on how they screen it is going to rule out a lot of folks, especially those young people working on his campaign. Ah, that rules me out... -
Big Auto Wants $50B

That sounds the "Grease Car System," The Lovecraft system doesn't require a spare tank. A heating solenoid is put in the tank as well as an additional filter/heating element up near the manifold with a final gas filter. I put it through a filtration system of three filters, one to get out the junk, the second down to 10 microns and the final down to 1 micron. It comes out clear and then I put it straight in the tank. During the winter I use between 20-30% diesel and during the summer between 0 adn 10% diesel. -

I was just listening to Larry Sabato on MSNBC and he was stating that we should not bailout the Big 3. We should invest money in all these little car companies springing up around the US that are either building or modifying old cars to burn alternative fuels often getting over 50 mpg. There are number in MA as well. We have a veg oil/diesel with a conversion kit out of CA... called Lovecraft in an old '85 Mercedes Station Wagon as a third car experiment. So far so good. But my version is the tip of the iceberg. We had a valedictorian at UMass going off the do computer research for software into systems that managed alternative fuel injectors and burn rates. He got his degree in chemical engineering and computer science. He wants to start his own car company. Pretty neat stuff. I say bite the bullet and screw the car companies. Buy out the pensions, cut the health care benefits and let the companies sink or swim on their own merit.... Meanwhile invest in the a new generation of car builders and the real ingenuity and creativity the powers America. -
All above said, Nader is still a hypocritical trust fund baby, treating his employees like shiip. He doesn't know squat about the environment, but had the audacity to accuse Gore of not being an environmentalist. Common cause produces some great statistics, but Nader is an ego maniacal has been, never was -- going the way of Jesse Jackson, so there! Bills loses combined with Sabres playing like crap make me cranky too. P.S. I am not sure I would believe anything this deranges blow hard would say at this point unless he was giving Wacka head and then I might believe it he blurted out..."but it is soooo small."

Understood and I agree generally, but then the free market should rein and we should let these car companies and banks fail. If they come with their hand out to the taxpayers, then they should accept certain limitations IMO. Otherwise, keep their hands in their pockets. It will force more attention from shareholders and more accountability on decision making to know that their isn't a bailout anytime they get in trouble. It makes welfare queens look responsible and a helluv a lot cheaper! -

I hear you, it is a helluv a conundrum. They are too big just to let fail all at once. They need to retool and get smaller, but they won't be the same no matter what. So if it untenable for the government to do anything but give a loan they won't pay back, then the taxpayers need to get something out of it if we are just chasing good money after bad. Why not just fully fund the pension funds and provide them with money to cut and retool but nothing else..., no payroll money. That is just wasting time... IMO that probably is politically untenable. So the only thing is throw a bunch of requirements on the loan. He my credit union wanted a certain amount of money held in reserve when theygave us our mortgage. We were moving out of state and I did not have a job lined up. And my credit was very good.
