  1. Not saying JWill's in anywhere near the same zip code (or even time zone) talent-wise, but TT fumbled 9 times in his rookie year (4% of his 225 touches). A lot of people were down on him at the time for putting the ball on the carpet too much. But like most young backs, he got better at ball control in years 2 and 3. Same with Joe Cribbs and Travis Henry. Williams' 2 fumbles on 29 touches (6.8%) was certainly a problem. But second year players usually get better and there were no signs it was an issue this year. My whole dislike of keeping Banyard over Williams has more to do with the long parade of coaches and GMs who would rather bet on older "known quanty" vets with little upside vs. keeping young guys with promise and working to develop them. It may be a safer way to go in the No Fun League but IMO all it gets you is 17 years of mediocrity... And this whole thing about special teams. There are 27 non-starter, non-specialist, non-backup QB players available for ST. If most back-up OL and DL are excluded, that cuts it down to probably 20-22 guys. There should be room to carry a RB2 (or WR3 etc.) if he can be someone getting 8-10 touches to spell a starter.
  2. If that's true, then Shaddy doesn't fit either. Tasker says a lot of dumb stuff. Exhibit one way his thought that Wenning had a shot at being QB3...
  3. Seems logical. Sign him after week two and put Vallejo on IR for a red shirt year. Win-win. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2014/9/6/6112927/nfl-week-1-vested-veteran-contracts-are-now-fully-guaranteed When a team signs a "vested" veteran after Week 1, the organization can sign that player for the league minimum with little risk. If the player is only good enough to last a few weeks or is just signed to fill-in for an injury, the team can drop them and their salary. It's essentially a way to beat the system, while still allowing older players to catch a last paycheck or opportunity.
  4. The sticking point being they have to be added to the active roster if signed.
  5. It did to me. Wednesday is decision day as that's when the offfensive game plan goes in. If TT is still in protocol today, it seems like a stretch to say his noggin will be OK two days from now...
  6. Bupkis. There is no larger development curve than a guy going into year two. Now, I'd agree with you on 28 year old RBs, of which we now corner the market...
  7. And yet, the vets / journeymen who replace them are no better and often worse. Hard to develop talent if you never give it a chance...
  8. Winning teams look to the future, not the past with their player personnel decisions...
  9. The point is asset management and talent development. Hanging on to and nurturing young, cheap players with an upside is how winning teams stay on top. And continually throwing away players drafted by previous regimes for older / on the downside vets is how you go 8-8 year after year. JWill is the latest example of what the Bills do year after year. The frustration comes from fans who view Tolbert as a stop gap "culture" guy vs. someone who could continue to blossom. And Banyard as a 28 year old journeyman who has little chance of getting better in 2018, 2019...
  10. Take out one carry for 15 yards in the first exhibition game and Tolbert averaged 3.3 ypc (32 yards on 9 carries). Take out JWill's longest preseason carry (the 21 yard TD vs. DET) and he averaged 5.0 ypc (104 yards on 20 carries)
  11. Pretty tough to fumble if you don't touch the ball. Banyard has 23 career carries over five years (with two, count em', two since 2014). DiMarco has ONE career carry in FIVE years!
  12. Rosen? Personally, I want the left side of the A&M offensive line...
  13. Me too. Such sad news. Been playing the catalog non-stop since this morning. Sounds like DF wants to carry on, so it could be a bittersweet / amazing night if the show's still on.
  14. And the rationalization factor. Bills fans are professionals at it...
  15. Good thing then they're handing the job to a guy who averaged 3.3 ypc last year... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TolbMi00.htm
  16. LOL! This is what I missed most about TSW...
  17. Sigh. I never thought anything would get me back here, but... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TolbMi00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BanyJo00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoneTa00.htm
  18. And as they say, the 'rest of the story.....' http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/21/world/asia/australia-norman-olympic-apology/
  19. Thanks for putting the Buckster's name in the thread title. It's a great Public Service Announcement...
  20. Practice squad signees have to be added the active roster but are only guaranteed payment for three weeks, after which they can be cut. Since he still has PS eligibility, he could then be re-signed to the taxi squad...
  21. Actually, he's very bright. Why sign to be the third QB (who likely won't dress after this week and would be back on the practice squad when TTs knee heals) when he can stay put with a solid playoff caliber team with a shaky backup situation...
