  1. Okay, you 2 are right, and clearly so. But the fact that Armstrong is the bigger jackass by far doesn't erase the fact that Braun is still a really big jackass. Heehaw. kj
  2. Very tough call, hard to argue against either one. Give em both the prize.
  3. And he should give it to the guy that Braun blamed, the 'specimen collector' I think.
  4. Where was Talley's foot the weekend of the Giants Super Bowl?
  5. Kirby and Over 20... make a point that I have been trying to figure out how to make for some point: for too long, we have mistaken good stories for good players and projected success based on the stories becoming players. Jones fit that description to a tee. Marginal talents that are projected as potential core players. That's got to stop. kj
  6. This is the kind of post I expect moderators to delete.
  7. When I was a more or less typical no-name college kid, I spent many nights in bars underage. I had plenty of mornings I missed because of hangovers, and I got to know a few toilet bowls on a face-to-face basis, too. Classes skipped because some buddies decided to get a case of beer and so on. But on the few occasions when I had a chance to engage with a group of folks who I hoped would become my professional peers, I kept it straight. Job fairs, volunteer opportunities, meet an HR rep, and so on: I stayed sober for a few extra hours, even on the weekend. I did this even when I was 18 and 19. I don't see his drinking as a big deal. I see the inability to identify a time when he should abstain for 36 hours as a bigger deal.
  8. Good find. From the article: obert Boland, academic chair of New York University's Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management, said the Mets did not enjoy "the honeymoon period that was once typical for a new stadium" because fans quickly discovered they were paying to watch a team that was not as good as previous seasons. So even with a fancy stadium, the quality of the team still matters? Interesting.
  9. Chuck in Ishtar. End of discussion.
  10. I think you should factor in his forced fumbles for whatever argument you are trying to make. 2009: 0 2010: 3 2011: 3 2012: 4
  11. It's not the drinking here, it's the drinking that made him unable to fulfill a really easy set of responsibilities at what is probably the most important professional opportunity he is going to have that doesn't directly involve his college team. The Manning family event is huge and they are pretty close to NFL royalty. Show up, share some tips on mechanics or whatever, pose for some pics and sign autographs. If you can't do that, you were pretty screwed up the night before. To be unable to see the value in attendance and doing his part really raises red flags. He just lost a couple of million dollars, I am betting. Being the best QB in the draft isn't necessarily the ticket to a top five 1st round contract, as this past year showed.
  12. Is baseball's arbitration a potential model (something I know next to nothing about)?
  13. Buffalo fatalism: this is asking me if I would like to defer my pain for a few days, a week or two, or just have it now.
  14. But the point is still a good one: we need to make the playoffs soon.
  15. Nope, KC Royals: 1985 World Series was their last playoff appearance. So we have 14 more years of this to look forward to! Go Bills. kj
  16. Rex is the only guy at the party that hears "hey, my breasts are up here."
  17. Interestingly, it looks like Nelson and Aaron Hernandez played college ball together. How's that for irony.
  18. Someone work in a joke about 'Hertz' here.
  19. AH isn't being sued for 'only' $100K. The complaint says the guy is requesting a sum of at least $100K in damages. This amount in the complaint qualifies the case for jurisdiction in a federal court. The stated amount is only a legal tactic to get the case in front of a federal judge. kj
  20. I think there is a hammer hidden inside so he can continue destroying evidence.
  21. Hernandez makes Gronk look like a choir boy Tebow. Of course, Tebow makes Gronk look like Hernandez. So I don't know what to think. kj
  22. Not about Geno per se, but the Jets will always strike me as a team that those unfortunate to come into contact with will eventually mature out of. How can any adult root for the Jets? kj
  23. Writeup on former Bill Nelson talks about his work with Haitian orphans: http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/browns-receiver-david-nelson-balancing-passion-for-charity-nfl-comeback-attempt-1.403389 kj
  24. He's a blend of Vince Lombardi and Rich Kotite. With a little Tom Landry and Wayne Fontes thrown in.
  25. I've said too much. kj
