It's surprising how many ships of that era blew themselves up (Vanguard, Bulwark, Leonardo da Vinci, Brin, Liberte). The last battleship sunk to a spontaneous detonation was IJN Mutsu, in '43. The last battleship to have an uncontrolled powder detonation was USS Iowa in 89.
The Germans were the only country that didn't have a battleship spontaneously combust, because they put stabilizer in their cordite. The Italians, on the other hand...their ships would explode if they got too warm.
