Roemer has been off the stage for close to 20 years. He ran an awful campaign in '91 and his complete lack of traction indicate that he hasn't improved much (if at all) in the intervening years. Roemer is a good man and has (or at least had) good ideas, but there is no way he ever comes close to sniffing the White House.

You dislike Romney who 'lost those southern states because he can't close the deal' but like Buddy 'I finished 3rd behind a crook and a racist' Roemer? After Buddy was caught reading a book at a football game his political career was toast.

Romney hasn't campaigned against the President yet. Once he has the nomination sown up, it'll be interesting to see how things change. Right now, I expect the race to be close until the last week or 2 and then 1 of them will pull away. Unless the President can change the answer to the question Reagan asked the American people: 'are you better off today than you were 4 years ago,' then he'll be a 1 and done. If the economy is coming around or if something major breaks his way, then he might be able to have that question break his way; right now, it's not there.

She'd have to have a convincing narrative as to why she switched teams, but she wouldn't be the 1st Republican to have switched and be successful on the national stage. Ronnie being the most obvious example of a Democrat that believed the party left him behind and ended up a staunch Republican.

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
Taro T replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, but will the fancy little brother site be able to withstand the traffic when the Rick Nash led Sabres win the Stanley Cup in '13? THAT'S the important test. And hopefully it will be a precursor to the '14 Superbowl serious stress test. -
Not saying it won't happen, but was ESPN making the same claims that NFLN were making that Williams had left Buffalo Tuesday night? If so, their credibility might not be what it once was.

Bad news. LaCanfora is reporting that Mario has signed with the Bills. He hasn't been right yet, so does this mean he ripped up the contract? -

I can't believe how much they overpaid for the guy. Sheesh, typical Ralph, throwing his money around. -

Did you get permission from the Senator to post that? -
Looks like a case of voter suppression at your polling station. Think Eric Holder would take up your cause?

Probably a little of both, but more of the former. He already will have a hard time hitting Pres. Obama where it will hurt the most (Obamacare). Hopefully in the general campaign he sticks to the points of Masscare being right for Massachusetts and not for the entire nation, that states should be able to devise their own systems that work for their particular circumstances, and that he worked with the Democrats to come up with something that was at least palatable for Massachusetts. To pander to the hard right states will force him to answer more claims of 'flipflopper.' And even if he were to come up with a message that appeals there in the primaries, he'd have a hard time beating the more conservative candidates as I don't see how he could 'genuinely' come across as being more conservative than Santorum. If he had a narrative that would seal the deal w/ the social conservatives that he thought would be credible and not cost him moderates, I expect we'd've already heard it. He's not a social conservative, he's close to a fiscal conservative; though compared to the present WH occupant, he is a social conservative. In the general election, even if Romney doesn't energize the far right, there's no way he loses places like Mississippi. Losing primaries in the deep south, especially in contests where he gets ~30% of the votes, won't hurt him nearly as bad as making a far right social conservative turn will when he gets to the real contest. If he were getting 10% of the primary in Alabama he might have an issue, getting ~30% shouldn't be a dealbreaker in the delegate count.

wtf? NFL Network just said on a teaser that Mario Williams left town. -
They did back in '92 when Buchanan was challenging GHWB. Also, in '76 and '80 when Reagan and Kennedy challenged the incumbents respectively. But, going back to your point, I can't recall them covering an incumbent's primary without a non-marginalized challenger.

Really? Aren't you the same guy that put Tom's quote in bold, underlined, huge font and stated Out of curiosity, how do you reconcile those 2 views? You state that it's a bad law but you're good with it. -

Too many of his 'compromises' seem to be of the sort like he made on the 'Catholic institutions must pay for abortifacients' deal. His initial position was that Catholic institutions must pay for their employees to get abortifacients. When that was derided, his position morphed to the insurers of Catholic institutions must pay for those employees to get abortifacients. Now, unless the insurance companies are going to go bankrupt, those costs will get passed back to the Catholic institutions and the end result is the exact same as what he started out with. When the end result is the exact same as what the initial result was, there wasn't much compromise now was there? He starts out in left field (or more accurately, outside the stadium towards the left field side) and then moves about 2 ft towards center, if at all, but he's still in left field. -

Probably. But if the system is remedied to allow for more realistic #'s of immigrants to come into the country legally AND if it has been remedied to cut the flow of illegals entering the country to a trickle then a partial amnesty seems reasonable to 'solve' the problem of what do you do with the existing illegals. Realistically, there's no way all the existing illegals will end up deported nor in jail for illegally entering the U.S.. We have to do something with them and ideally something that doesn't just encourage more illegal entry to the U.S.. -
AJ, Just saw the thread now. Very sorry for your loss. LA's advice is sound. When you're ready, get another one. Wife's cat passed away in my arms last Spring, and I expect our older dog to go sometime in the near future. He can't hear, has cataracts, and not much of a sense of smell, and arthritis but ol' Dogian Gray keeps going. He's had more lives than the cat including getting literally driven over by a truck last fall.
