  1. AC is definitely a first round talent and I thought he would get picked up as early as the 3rd round if he was able to charm some GMs in his interviews. I figured there was a very low chance he would stay out of trouble, but the gamble would be worth it in the middle rounds. After this, I think he doesn't get drafted. Calloway had a giant spotlight on him during the combine. Every interview he gave talked about nothing but the trouble he got into at FL. He absolutely KNEW he had to hit a home run if he wanted a chance to continue his career. The complete stupidity it takes to screw that up by continuing to smoke prior to the combine is hard to fully grasp.
  2. By far my two favorite books as a kid were Where the Red Fern Grows and Enders Game. I still re-read them every few years.
  3. A friend of mine saw it and said it wasn't worth the money, but everything I've seen online has said it's good. I'll probably wait to stream it.
  4. Thanks everyone, the discussion all helps. I'm in an odd situation, and unfortunately I don't really control my own destiny here. To expand a bit (just in case it helps): I'm retiring from the Air Force in a couple months, and I'm trying to figure out where to settle down. Complicating matters immensely is that I just recently got divorced and we have a 4 year old that neither of us will leave (we have 50/50 custody and I won't be without him for months at a time). So that means having to come to an agreement on where to live with my ex-wife. While we're on relatively good terms, trying to figure something like this out with an ex is not at all a fun time. While I prefer rural living, due to her business she wants to be near population centers and wants easy access to an international airport. So really I'm just trying to hunt down what can be a good enough compromise. I only want to work part time from here on out (I want to spend a lot more time with my kid than I have been able to so far in his life), so a lower cost of living is important to me, but in the end I'll do what I need to do to be near him and give him a good life. That's it in a nutshell. Again, I appreciate humoring me with the thread! It's funny, when I first started researching areas I was getting pretty good feedback on the Winston/Greensboro area. Then all of a sudden it changed and I've mostly been getting warnings to stay away, including this thread. Obviously I need to take a trip out there and check all these places out to see for myself.
  5. I love the Blue ridge, lived right in the middle of them for a few years during high school. While I don't normally mind winter, this year has been abnormally snowy here and I'm ready to be done with it! Thanks for your help. My mother moved to Charlotte about 12 years ago, but didn't like the city so she moved to York, just up the road from Rock Hill. Nice area around there. An Asheville type area is way more my style, but I'm restricted to living closer to some population centers and a decent airport. Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time. I think Mooresville and Salisbury might be a little too far from everything, but I'll start looking into them. Pretty sure I have a cousin in Mooresville.
  6. I've heard that a lot, and I'm looking forward to it. Seems to be happening at a good time, given the "Process" and soon to be retirement of the cheaters. I've really enjoyed it here, but it's time to go.
  7. I'm going to be relocating in about 6 months and I'm looking at northern North Carolina, somewhere between Winston-Salem and Raleigh. I'm leaning toward Winston-Salem or Greensboro due to lower cost of living, especially housing, and also because it's a little more central to Charlotte and locations I may travel to in Virginia. I prefer to live more rural, but close enough to one of these cities to get to easily when needed (around 20 - 30 min drive). Not sure if that's realistic based on how far out the suburbs go out from these cities? I like renovating, so my plan is to buy a fixer upper on small acreage (1 to 5 acres) and work on it. I have a 4 year old that will be starting school in 2019, so if there's a big difference in schools or family atmosphere, that will be a part of my decision. I have family that lives south of Charlotte, just over the border in SC, and I used to live in central Virginia, so I have a general awareness of the region, but I've never spent any time in these cities. Plan on narrowing my focus and taking a trip in a couple months to check it out. I'm pretty sure I remember there's at least a few board members that are from the area, so really any basic info about it will be helpful (do's and don'ts....pros and cons).
  8. I really want "A Quiet Place" to be good, but I'm prepared to be disappointed.
  9. Antonio Callaway. I think there's about a 10% chance he stays out of trouble, but with a later pick, it's worth the gamble. He's crazy talented.
  10. Finished last night. Worst Marvel product yet, IMO. The 1st season was slow, but Killgrave was a good character. This season started slow and never got going.
  11. I'd love a top MLB and DT Harrison Phillips. But it doesn't even come close to how much I want a QB.
  12. Well, he was literally last on my list, but whatever. As long as they're still drafting the future, I don't really care.
  13. It's not Daboll's decision to make, and Beane has said he doesn't look for a QB that fits a specific coach, because coaches change. Of course he'll get input from everyone, but this is all Beane. That's why even though I don't want him, I think Josh Allen is at least in the mix. But I think as long as he's not picked by the Browns at 1, Rosen is the guy. I really don't think Mayfield is the player Beane wants to put his young reputation on the line for.
  14. Final grades aren't over until the comp picks come in next year. Bills and Rams could both get decent picks for one year rentals in that deal. The Bills played it we'll, especially because they knew they weren't going to pony up this kind if money to keep him, but I doubt the Rams are too upset either.
  15. I keep having visions of the movie Draft Day where that new GM panics for no apparent reason and makes that ridiculous trade.
  16. I was thinking they'd be lucky to get a 5th and would probably take a 6th to get him off the books before the bonus was due. This is crazy.
  17. Please, take a moment and show me where I said something like that.
  18. My personal take? Nope, not at all. BUT, he does have the freaky physical traits that NFL management loves. Did you see him at the combine? I don't think he's worth a top 5 pick, but watching him make those throws was impressive! IMO, he doesn't have the game talent to succeed, especially early in his career. But GM's love the measurables.
  19. But isn't that insanely obvious? You're trying to find an argument that isn't there, just to make your point. I think they do it more often than not because there's generally 0 - 2 top flight QB's in every draft. And those QB's have to be better than what's currently on the roster for those top 5 teams.
  20. Oh brother, sorry didn't know you were so easily offended. My point is that people aren't saying what you think they are. Everyone knows it takes two to tango. It just doesn't need to be spelled out in every post. When someone says "trade up with Giants", they're saying do everything you can to trade up with the Giants. Why does that have to be spelled out in order for you to not ridicule those posters for saying such things? I'm also disagreeing with you on the value of picks in relation to the value of QB's. Get the QB, then worry about the picks and filling out the roster. Use trades. Use free agency. Do whatever you have to do get the !@#$ing QB.
  21. Yes, you do. My point is that so many think draft picks are worth more than they are. And let's not get over the top here with hyperbole. Nobody is saying it's as easy as picking up the phone and it's a done deal. It's just tiresome to have to explain the details of what you're saying in EVERY post in case someone like you comes along and can't assume the obvious. What people are saying is that they should do everything in their power to make it happen. If it CAN'T happen, so be it. But it shouldn't be because the Bills are unwilling to part with some precious picks that never get us anywhere.
  22. College football is a very different game. His throwing style, not to mention his actual throws, matter. Against better defenses, his stats wouldn't be the same. That said, I don't hate Jackson. He's a 2nd to 3rd tier prospect that certainly has the potential to be a good QB. He's just got a lot to overcome.
  23. I won't speak for everyone here who says that stuff, but for me, there's always a price if you're willing to pay it. Gettleman may think two first aren't enough to compensate for losing Barkley, but what about 3? What about 4? I'm not saying the Bills should give up 4 first round draft picks, but I am saying that I'm sick and tired of treating draft picks like they are the be all end all of building a team. We've had plenty of draft picks for the last 20 years; where has it gotten us? Just give up what it takes to get your guy (if there is that guy in this draft).
  24. I think you're hitting the wrong point here. My definition of "need" and "talent" is meaningless. The only thing that matters is what they think. If they believe they have a need at QB AND there is a prospect that they believe can be a franchise guy, and they pass on that guy just to get more picks later in the draft, that's blowing it. Meanwhile, having a need at WR, and passing on your top rated WR to get a bunch of picks and still get your 3rd or 4th rated WR is much more acceptable. Trading down is more logical for every position other than QB.
