Stirring the pot again, eh?

Anyone with any sense at all would agree the Bills still have a ways to go. I saw Coleman get some action and maybe it was rust, but he got whipped the few times I saw him in the game. Once by a RB who made a nice gain on a off tackle play he should have made for the Bills. We speak of having depth issues, yet defensively we are short of OLB's (which I believe is why Kelsay is still here in that we haven't anyone better). Moats and Batten were both complete non-factors yesterday and Shepard has a long way to go inside as well. Pass rush has been a need, and all the naysayers aside, Schobel was out only skilled pass rusher in a long time and we must find another consistent pass rushing threat. I don't believe he is currently on the roster today. Offensively, we are tied to a QB who can be wild and inconsistent who has yet to prove he can go long effectively. Too many underthrown passes when he does. Like Edwards, teams do not respect the long ball from our Bills, which also like Edwards, teams jam and crowd the short game which we have been seeing more and more of lately.

His body of work, before and after his injury hasn't impresssed me a heck of a lot. One solid game, bits of good with bits of bad in 2-3 others, disappears at times as well. He must show well in practice though as in a number of games, Fitz went to him early and first half action hasn't been Jones stong suit. Seems to play better in the second. Yet, he's raw, and he's young. He may still yet develop. As has been said around here many times, Eric Moulds took three years to explode.

Good point.... Most would not have had much hope, but then after dismal play in preseason, it looked a bit downbeat anyway.

Jeez....you sound as if he played in the 60's and 70's. Schobel consistently lined up against Tackles who were well over 300 lbs. To be fair, you know jack...#!&% !!!! Schobel was a very good player, period.

He's brought something to this team that we went over a decade trying to find. Heart and and offense that is capable of moving the ball.

Sacks often require both good coverage by secondary and the rush combined. I for one am pleased that McGee is back. He's been playing well.

The Giants game was lost on the woefully under thrown ball to Stevie around the Giants 4 yard line with 4 minutes to go. Right call, disastrous throw. The Bengals dominated the second half. Our offense sucked as well as our defense. Both were close games that the bills let get away. Yet we also won twice in a row after being down by 18 so ........

Moats may well develop, but he reminds me a lot of Kelsay's pass rush of yore. Big wide 4-5 second route to QB. I like his 'Motor" but he's not quite there yet. He definitely appears superior to Batten though at this point.

I was just thinking the same thing. Seemed like the officials, with his forward progress long stopped, let the Ravens attack him with a swarm until desired result had been fulfilled.

Stevie at this point is the best WR on the Bills. He runs fabulous routes that make up more than makeup for his lack of top end speed. Yet, he's plenty quick enough. Donald Jones appeared a bit stronger than Stevie, but has dropped more than he should (especially early in games), and he lacks the moves that make Stevie so effective. I don't see Stevie in the top ten in the NFL, but he's inching closer.

Between his reps at WR, and how thin we are there, he may well not get any carries til Jones comes back.

During the game I was thinking the same thing. Yet, Shanny knew the Bills wouldn't match the salary he could get elsewhere.

The name Marlon Kerner rings a bell. He was becoming a very good corner until he got hurt. If I recall, he played a fair amount of nickle as well.

It wouldn't have been cheap. That was a clear case of PI. It was more obvious that even the ones Florence was called for and his were obvious to me.

Rockpile, you're a respected poster around here (at least by those who have been around awhile), but Gailey's call on that fatal pick late was for a play that was there. I'd much rather take that shot than not. Stevie had single coverage and had his man beat. A good throw and it's a likely 6..... the flaw was that Fitz threw up a turd.

See "Goats" thread. The loss was squarely on the shoulders of two players, Drayton Florence and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Florence was being toasted badly even before the two stupid PI's. Fitz had two Ints on similar plays where he horribly under threw each pass. Then there was the seies he took the Bills out of FG range with stupid sacks instead of throwing the ball away. Gotta be smarter than that Ryan.....

Neither did Florence. Had he turned his head on the ball, both PI's could have been picks, especially the second one.

I would have to disagree with your number 8 evaluation point. On both plays, Johnson had the step. Both times the ball was horribly under thrown. Both times Stevie had to hit the breaks hard and try to come back thru the DB. The 4th quarter pick with around 4 minutes remaining was obviously hugely damaging but that's a play Fitz has to make a better throw on. The simple truth is that was a scoring type play, single coverage, with Stevie having the step. Fitz simply blew it, not Gailey for calling the play.

Nope, bad logic. The two picks were horribly under thrown balls to Stevie Johnson, in single coverage match up. Both of which Stevie had a step on his man. I guess Stevie didn't emerge last year as our best WR then. Darn, I thought he was pretty good too.

Evans last two years in Buf were pretty pedestrian (save the occasional long ball which his speed made possible), Easley is a complete unknown who showed potential in Preseason but also showed a propensity to drop balls as well. Donald Jones has made a few plays but surely hasn't distinguished himself. I like David Nelson, Stevie Johnson, and Naaman plays well also. Put CJ in the slot or outside, and the deep threat is back. Enough weapons exist, Fitz just needs to make better throws, more consistently.

All QB's make mistakes, some much more than others. Today, Fitz was in the "more than others" group. The play was there, twice, yet twice he threw a miserably under thown ball.

To me. Fitz is more like a 50-50 guy. I was hoping this year he would make huge strides in becoming a 75 plus percent guy. He still may be, but his last performances against the Bengals, Eagles, and today were more pedestrian than upper echelon.

Almost? Hell, they both were equally obvious....bad call and bad non-call.
