Alex Carrington played well today. Best complete game as a Bill and as the game wore on, he seemed to gain confidence as well. Maybe he's going to be a player after all. Darius on the other hand was quiet as was Kyle Williams today........

Laugh all you want - Merriman does make a difference
Spiderweb replied to GG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alas finally someone who saw what I saw. Moore was far more active and save the facemask penalty that cost the Bills and himself a sack, he looked promising. Merriman plays hard but has very little explosion any more. On the play where Merriman put Long on his butt, i cheered as others have mentioned. Yet,while I hope he can get back some quickness, i fear he won't. -
I think Shep is merely spewing up Wanny-isms. Any one who has watched the Bills can plainly see they're not stopping many plays at all. To say they stop 10 plays only to give up one huge play must think that an 8-9 yard run is "stopping" them. Very disaapointing comments from one of guys most liable for the huge gains and consistent ones at that, against the Bills D. This is totally dellusional.

Positives/negatives from today. What are yours?
Spiderweb replied to miserable_fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well Fitz did manage to beat his amazing 126 yards passing last week against the 49ers. That's two consecutive PITIFUL performances in a row. Then there's his 4 pick performance the week before that...... -
Not so sure about that. I have seen Spiller head upfield plenty this year.Leroy Kelly once said there is time to fight for yards and a time to find a nice soft spot. Franco Harris was critcized frequently for going out of bounds also. I think they both were pretty good players. Spiller may have realized he should not have bounced. outside and simply took what he could get. Also his game is not about power.

JR, I'm surprised you saidthat. You're far more observant than that. Brady is very successful making teams play the entire field. He is respected and he can thow deep (to Gronk and Hernandez if not to his wideouts), which is critical as that alonge keeps the safeties busy and respectful.

..... Jeez I'm so tired of sad, miguided, uninformed, and blantantly ignorant remrks about unions bribing government officials. The problem I have isn't that this hasn't happened, it the free pass some give big business and the rich who have infinitely larger sums of cash going to politicians. I agee with the official refs. Why should they too get raped, pillaged and plundered like the vast majority of the people in this country?

Cordy Glenn getting his propers from Peter King
Spiderweb replied to Astrojanitor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if I recall correctly, Nix has said after the draft that they helped spread the Glenn is a guard, not quick enough for LT stuff. Nix always thought highly of Glenn at LT. -
Kyle Williams was AMAZING today!

Kyle is a stud, period. Great game Kyle. So very glad to have you back! -
Jackson suffers LCL injury,nothing conclusive...
Spiderweb replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was good hard hit to Jackson's upper thigh lower hip area. His left knee just seemed to take a strange twist (lft foot well planted when he took the hit). Hate the Jets, hate it even more that Fitz played so poorly and improved defense? Every year we figure the D can't get worse, yet it does. That D effort today was as pitiful of a D as I've seen in a long time -
Over-rated? You have got to be either kidding or completely delusional.

Living near and working in Louisville, KY these days, I still get my chomps busted for calling it "pop". Solid list....

Fitz working on mechanics with new QB coach
Spiderweb replied to John Cocktosten's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tend to agree. Correcting his throwing motion, or teaching him proper positioning of his feet, would have been more likely to have succeeding in his teens, or possibly into his very early 20's. I fear that he may make some changes but it the heat of the battle, he's fairly likely to revert to what he and his body have been doing for years. Any consistency he adds, however, would be very welcome, very welcome indeed. -

Looking back on the infamous trades.
Spiderweb replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, the best part about the Lynch trade wasn't as much as who we got, or will get for him, it's the playing time Fred Jackson gained and his production made it all worth while... -
T.O. tells Dr. Phil he squandered $80 million

You really should investigate your premise. Gone Broke... Based on SI's article above, you may wish to evaluate your comment, and do a bit of research first next time. -
Hasselbeck vs Hoge on the Saints
Spiderweb replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hoge is frequently a flat out blowhard, and thinks far more himself than anyone else. Yet, in this case.....I agree with him. The game should never tolerate players willfully trying to knock opponents out, or worse. Bounty systems are wrong, at any level, so the NFL must do the right thing for the game itself, and continue to come down hard on the Saints, and any other teams doing the same thing. -
I would disagree and he merely rode the coat tails of a the GM before him (Polian). When the smoke finally settled and the cupboard was bare, be bolted. Butler oversaw the demise of they Bills and was incapable of reloading the team with the talent needed to compete. He also had a penchant for overpaying lesser or aging players thus the 2001 salary cap mess we ended up in.

Kiper had Cordy Glenn as his #14 overall player

Love The Draft But Fitz Still Holds Key
Spiderweb replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz isn't a star, by any measure, but there are good things he can do. The long ball isn't one of them, but even those throws could have only been made tougher with cracked ribs, which may explain a few of those under thrown balls that likely cost the Bills a win or two (with the ensuing picks). I'm far more worried at this point with what is behind him. Thigpen? He was horrible in preseason last year, horrible in his few regular season appearances, and there's no development QB is sight. Sure hope a quality backup QB comes available (Nix hinted he expects some and I hope he's right). -
I thought we were going to get a big WR...
Spiderweb replied to Toshiero's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Toshiero, it's not about Kool Aid, it's about how you have no more clue on how the Bills picks will turn out than an inch worm does. No one does. You think only the Bills have had busts? I suggest you start doing some homework. For now, all the guys picked in the 2012 Draft can all play in the NFL., and that will continue until they prove otherwise. Yes, some may be Bills picks, but I have a hunch that similar misses will be made all across the league...... -

Demetrius Bell - Now an Eagle
Spiderweb replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters injury could spell the end of his career, and his pro bowl ability, for at least a couple years. Achilles injuries, even when successfully repaired and rehabilitated take a couple years. Spikes returned to be a good, though not a great of a player, and Cowart came back but was never anywhere near the same player he was before the injury. Sure, someone will cite a player who was more successful in returning to form, but the achilles is still a very bad injury. If Bell can stay healthy, the Eagles may have yet another very good LT, courtesy of the Bills. Admittedly, I was hoping Bell would return, but the Peters injury made the Eagles a bit desparate if you ask me and over paid for him a bit. Yet if he turns out to be healthy, they could have gotten a LT for 5 years at a very reasonable price. Like everything in life, they took the gamble the Bills appeared unwilling to take at the numbers being tossed around. I wish Demetress (hate the "new" spelling) well however. I liked him far more than what I've seen of Hairston to date. Bills to go LT in round one? -
Fred Jackson Article (and live interview)
Spiderweb replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice update, but the lead in to the Brad Butler bit was incorrect. Butler played decently, not great, at guard for the Bills. He was was switched to RT in his fourth year with the Bills, got hurt in his second at the position, and never played again for the Bills as he elected to retire in Feb 2010 to pursue other interests. He may have made a fine RT, but we will never know. -
Sign of the times. Journalism and reporting (not necessary to same things) is far too often heavily slanted in one direction or the other. I prefer it when I'm presented with facts and left to think rather than the ever popular heavily slanted sound bites and opinions that most run with these days.
