It was better once they figured it out and put Williams in.

No, I remember that. And I'm thrilled about the win. What I'm not thrilled with is that we were getting stops playing aggressively and sending heat, but then every time we would go up by 3 scores, McD/Babich would change philosophy and go into that soft shell and allow them right back in the game. Over and over. Just put your ***** heel on the opponents throat for ONCE. It's ok to play hard and get a 4 or even 5 score lead.
-
Even then, I was nervous until the end. 12 seconds is too close to 13.
-
The problem is that prevent started in the 1st quarter.

McDermott deserves praise for JA’s career year

All the guys on our OL were here before the Dorsey/Brady change. Some/Most were here before Kromer. So nah. It wasnt McD. -
We are. I'm feeling great about it and will talk about the good points in other threads. Doesnt mean there cant be any discussion about areas of improvement.
-
Ehh, maybe. I think it's more about McD's stubborness to stick to that soft zone scheme. We got away from it early and often, so it wasnt like we were stuck due to personnel. And most importantly, it WORKED, when we brought heat and went to man. But then we so predictably fall back into our soft zone, and they score in like 5 plays. A 14 pt lead in the 1st quarter isnt enough to go prevent.

48 points, and still nervous in the 4th quarter. -

And Philly went on to make 2 Super Bowls and win 1 without him. So you are saying the split was the best thing for both sides. Agreed!

Right, so "a couple of WRs, maybe 1 in the draft" like I said in my first post that you "couldnt disagree with more" Trying to improve on Kincaid/Knox is a huge waste of resources since it isnt going to get much better compared to what you would have to spend to make that happen. The ol Great is the enemy of Good. No need. TE spot is fine for what we do.
-
The OL is set and everyone is returning. We even have depth signed and developing. QB, obviously set. RB, set 3 deep TEs, set 3 deep WR is the only place we can and should add. But even then, between Coleman, Shakir, and Samuel (and Kincaid and Cook and even Knox), where are they even fitting? There is definitely a need there to backfill Hollins and Cooper. But it isnt like we cant field a complete and competitive team.
-
Our offense isnt the problem, and Josh has more weapons than passes he can throw. We'll bring in a couple WRs, maybe even 1 in the draft. But our O is pretty set, and has been scoring 30+ every week. The next Dalton Kincaid isnt even going to see the field as a rookie #3TE. Re-signing Shakir and locking him up will be our big offseason move on Offense.

We are entering a golden age for college football...
DrDawkinstein replied to GunnerBill's topic in College Football
I'm all for paying student athletes. But (unsurprisingly) the NCAA picked the absolute worst way to do it. Regardless, that isnt even my biggest beef when I talk about greed and money. I'm more referring to the actual schools and power conferences consolidating everything, and it all coming down to which schools can generate $100M+ in TV revenue. -

I feel like we just left the true "golden age" and are entering more of a "guilded age" or an age dictated by greed and making the most money (even more so than before). To me, the real golden age ended once they moved to the playoffs. And while that might leave less to argue over who really is the true National Champion, I feel like we lost a LOT at the lower levels. It used to be, come New Years day, student athletes all over the country, at ALL levels, were playing "their championship". Sure, you may not be up for the National Championship, but doggone it, the kids playing for UCLA and Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl were going to give it their all and have that memory/story forever. -
Requiem for a Dream. So depressing, so hot, lol.

Same. And then #42 Dorian Williams gets in the mix as another small LB, and I cant tell any of the 3 of them apart.
-
Might be easier for him with already being used to Free Agency 🤷♂️ Also why he has made it clear to UNC that they will need to spend, spend, spend. The school AND the boosters alike.
-
Yep, thanks to the inept idiots at the NCAA, college football is just a highest bidder booster competition now.

Building a college team and scouting high school recruits is a 100% completely different process than building an NFL team. He wont be stuck always picking in the 30s in the college draft, because there isnt one. He can go and recruit any kid he wants (whether they commit or not is a different story, but point is it's equal access). Plus, you dont have to "hit" on players as much since there are so many of them, and its a much deeper, wider talent pool. It's only in that step to the pros that so many get filtered out. Coming out of retirement - after taking only 1 year off. It's not like he retired at 65 and has been away from the game for 8 years. And I believe college football history is littered with old coaches going back for one more try and having decent success. Heck, Mack Brown just did that exactly at UNC, but to a lesser extent because while he is a good coach, he is no Belichick. Mack as more willing to just work with what the school would give him. Belichick has a plan to step it up to a top-tier program. Again, it might tank. Anything could happen. But I get why folks at UNC could believe that it will work, as long as they are willing to pony up.
