  1. Where you say "he couldnt win without Brady", I say "no one can win with Mac Jones". Even the best/your favorite coaches... swap Mac Jones in for Josh and McD isnt winning. Swap McCorkle in for Mahomes and Reid isnt winning. Swap him in for Goff and Campbell/Johnson arent winning. It's both. You need the coach and the QB. Even Brady needed Arians to win another SB, and didnt do nearly as well once he pushed Bruce out of the HC spot.
  2. What happened to the HC the day after that Bears debacle?
  3. Doesnt seem to fit into regular operations though. A Replay/Review specialist works because they can independently watch the tape and buzz down to the HC. What would a clock specialist do to help against the Rams? How and when would they be chiming in McD's ear to remember that they should only pass on that play since an incomplete pass stops the clock? They would have to be interrupting the conversation between McD and Brady, and stepping on the play calls, etc. This is something coaches should just "know". Yes, it is tricky. But that is why they've been given the $$$.
  4. What are the examples from this season that directly cost teams games? Eberflus letting the clock run out against the Packers. Fired the next day. What others?
  5. I clicked the thread to type this exactly. It's a major part of the job description. It would be like me telling my boss they need to hire an assistant for me who knows how to use MS Office products because I cant figure them out.
  6. Interesting question. I think the fact that he wants to build it out as a "Pipeline to the NFL" makes it very attractive to recruits. I think he'll be able to stand with any other coach he goes against. The (unfortunate) biggest factor nowadays tho is NIL money. So whether he can do it or not will really depend on how much boosters are willing to pony up to help him get his recruits. SMU boosters finally got their chance to legally pay players and they are in the Playoffs 1 year later. So it can be done. edit to add: With Saban retired, Belichick would be my top choice of "Coach I trust with my kid". If I'm a parent of a recruit, I'm pushing for Belichick over guys like Ryan Day, Brian Kelly, etc.
  7. You and I can say that. But a college board of trustees watching their peers rake in Tens, if not Hundreds, of Millions of dollars more for their school changes things.
  8. I dont think they are either. But he would be perfect going back to Carolina. Assuming Tepper was 1. smart enough to hire McD and 2. humble enough to stay out of his way. Two big asks.
  9. In fairness, the title does say "AFTER we lose in the playoffs". I think this was supposed to be more about McD's continual botching of in-game decisions and strategy, and how it hasnt improved, and will likely rear it's ugly head again in the playoffs.
  10. The amount of money available to be made in College Football makes that tough He didnt make that position up tho. Most big programs already have that guy in place.
  11. From what I'm reading, it's a plan to get UNC up to snuff with the current powerhouses. Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Ohio, etc. So I wouldnt call them unrealistic considering all the other big programs run this way. He just gave them the blueprint of what it will take to get there.
  12. Looks like he put the ball back in UNC's court to see if they are serious about building the Football program or if they want to continue being just a basketball school.
  13. Looks official "Belichick’s bible would require historic levels of investment from the school. Includes salary minimums position by position and a willingness to hire two staffs: a coaching staff run by Belichick; a recruitment staff run by a sitting college GM — who would require a buyout Belichick has a college and pro version of his updated manual and has shared it with other schools and NFL teams. But he drafted a new one specific to UNC that touched on every aspect of the program and school. Will need sign off from AD, chancellor, trustees and boosters There has already been pushback from the group of 13 trustees, with input from wider faculty. The investment would overhaul the school’s approach to football; Belichick unsure if the school will meet the demands and is unwilling to negotiate"
  14. In both employment AND the playoffs
  15. All good on the previous stuff. Happens to the best of us WRT change of D scheme, roster turn over, and even the Dolphins... Like I said up-thread, we need a pretty big overhaul on Defense even if McD stays. Cut Von, cut Jones, add a few DL, a couple of CBs, and with the question mark hanging over Milano maybe some work on LBs as well. All 3 layers. So we arent adding much to Beane's plate either way. It's already full. Regardless of scheme, I think we re-sign Groot and Benford since they can play in any defense. With the Dolphins, funny enough, they had already used all their draft capital from the Tunsil trade before McDaniel arrived. And while they had Wilkins, Jones, VanGinkel in place, idiotically let most of those players walk THIS PAST offseason in order to throw more money at Tua, Waddle, and Hill. So the turnover had little/nothing to do with the coaching change, and was just bad GMing that steams from bad ownership. And while I dont love the Tampa-2, it isnt the scheme I have the problem with. It is the coaching and decision making when push comes to shove and we get in tricky situations. Doesnt matter what scheme we are running if the coach doesnt know how to manage time outs. That is my real beef. ALLLLL this said, no way does Terry fire McD so none of this discussion matters at all. But it is a fun/interesting way to kill a Monday at work.
  16. He didnt get promoted from within the Texans. He was DC in San Fran before he was made HC in Houston. So if you cant get those basic facts right with a quick google search, we're done debating. Talk about being objectively wrong. lol As evidenced by yesterday's clock management, right?
  17. NO IT ISNT. Please dont strawman me and purposely mis-state what I've already spent multiple posts clarifying for you.
  18. Incorrect on the Dolphins, and incorrect on Ryans/Texans. They are actually decent comparisons in that neither org turned over their rosters, and neither roster was nearly as good as the Bills roster now. Not to mention the Philly and Chargers examples.
  19. We need a massive overhaul on D even if McD stays. Need at least 3 new DL players, and will likely be drafting DL in the 1st again. Need at least 1 starting CB. Need to figure out the Safety spots. The only churn we'd be adding would be likely replacing Bernard and Williams. Maybe. And no, the issue isnt that the scheme isnt well suited for the playoffs, it's that McD isnt well suited for the playoffs because he cant win a coaching battle. The next 30For30 "The 13 Seconds of Buffalo" can say "They may have never won a Super Bowl with the best player to ever wear a Bills uniform, but at least they kept the team together".
  20. That really isnt true in the modern era. They didnt turn over much in Philly. They didnt turn over much in Miami when they went from Flores to McDaniel (and those were VASTLY different coaches). They didnt turn over much in Houston when they brought in Ryans. They didnt turn over much in LA when the Chargers just brought in Harbaugh, it's essentially the 2023 team with an upgrade at HC. When the roster (and most importantly QB) is there, you bring in a coach to work with what you have. With Josh locked up, and most of our main talent signed, there wouldnt be much more turnover than we'd see if McD stays. There would be no reason to clean any house on Offense. And we have regular turnover on Defense anyways (but I would bet would still re-sign Groot and Benford. Maybe not Bernard). But we need all new DL and DBs anyways. No we wouldnt, and no it doesnt (anymore). We've seen it play out like that a million times in Buffalo during the drought when we didnt have a franchise QB or much talent around him. No one is walking into Buffalo and cleaning house on Offense. And we need the same additions/tweaks on Defense anyways. Far less upheaval than folks are worried about.
  21. Read it in one of these threads earlier. Cant keep track of what where since there are so many of them. Think it was mentioned Allen was asked directly.
  22. Believe that has been clarified as no. And even if it were, then it is on McD to make Allen realize you absolutely cant run there and why. Same as Reid/Mahomes understand, same as Belichick/Brady would have understood.
  23. The only place I'll disagree with you is on the "start building" statement. We arent starting a build. We ARE BUILT. We just need someone to drive this built machine to the top of the mountain. I agree Belichick is too old, but we arent looking for a 10-20 year tenure. Josh is 6 seasons in. He has, what, maybe 6 years left? We need someone who can take us to a Championship in the next 6 years. And the sooner, the better. I pretty much agree on all your other points and reasoning. I think all this talk about changing coaches = full rebuild is completely inaccurate. We're already built. We need some tweaks and additions, sure. The same as if McD stays. But we can change the Coaching staff without much turnover. Just like the Eagles did.
  24. Makes zero sense to demand that in CFB where coaches are no longer recruiting on longevity and culture, and it is just a boosters NIL bidding war. 🤷‍♂️ I think he just wants to secure his kid a job.
  25. I was bored waiting for my burritos...
