Jim Harbaugh broke his hand punching Jim Kelly in the head. We arent hiring him as anything on the Bills.

That isnt the narrative I got from watching the most recent Cover1 analysis. From what I heard Erik say, Dorsey runs too much of the coverage-beater easy button throws, but then doesnt build anything on top of them such as a different play out of that same look to trick the Defense into giving up a big play. We just run the same easy throw coverage beater over and over until the Defense figures it out and intercepts Josh (like exactly what happened on the INT from Sunday night). Which leads right into your #2.

That tackle by Linval Joseph though

Reminds me of this meme from this week... Because we're down guys at DB and Coverage LB, teams are getting the ball out in like 2.0 seconds flat. Floyd is still wrecking house, they even showed a couple of his rushes on replays this week. But by the time he can get a hand on the QB, the ball is already out because coverage isnt holding up. Most of the guys (not named Von) are still in there and beating their blocks regularly. We just cant get there in the 2 seconds we have. -
Potential to Explore Josh Allen (QB) trades

I dont think I've ever used a Thumbs-Down or Disagree emoji before. This post got one. -
Cover 1 breakdown of the Dorsey offense

You're making an awfully good argument for the folks in the "fire McD" camp. He's supposed to be a Head Coach. Not just a DC. If he doesnt have input on the Offense, then he shouldnt be getting paid like a HC. And we should find a HC who can handle ALL the responsibilities of the job. -
Chicago is a good one. Could also see the Raiders. But agreed, that's about it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT

Let’s hope this is their Tampa Bay 2021 game.

ha sorry, i got your point, but took it in my own direction. wasnt trying to refute you as much as vent about these coaches. agreed 100% about needing to find an identity. the problem is, dorsey is incapable of having one. he inherited an offense with an identity (Josh running), and then immediately set to work to kill that identity without having a great plan for our next one. even when things go great and it seems like we settle on one, like with the fast-paced RPO scheme against tampa, dorsey moves away from it as soon as he can. sure would be nice, but i have zero faith that dorsey and mcd have have had any "ah-ha" moments when their heads are spinning while trying to tread water at their jobs. -
Absolutely. Bottom-5 teams who want to turn it around and would love a wild card spot would be all over him. We're not in that class anymore.
-
I would also ask - whose job is it to make sure players are executing?
-
Indeed. Dorsey is unable to scheme for separation the way Reid does with any and all of his offensive players. So much to the opposite, in fact, that on this play Dorsey schemed Kincaid and Diggs so close and crossed with each other that they tripped over each other and can be seen laying on the ground at the top of that pic. Now, we all know Diggs and Kincaid can get separation on their own abilities 1:1 in the open field. But tough to do when your OC has you run right at each other from the LOS. Look at this awesome play design and wonder how many WRs would get separation here: Those problems span all parts of the offense, and makes it clear to me it isnt a player/talent issue.

I'm not big on making people provide names on who they want to hire, but real question: who is out there that fits this mold that isnt hired already? and isnt too old that the modern game has passed them by? Not trying to pin you to an answer. Genuinely curious on who I might be forgetting. Josh McDaniels? haha jkjk It's a decent sounding plan. But I dont think that is the current recipe for success in the modern NFL. It's more along the lines of finding a young, unknown staff member from a top Offense and catching lightning in a bottle.

McDermott answers why we stopped uptempo offense
DrDawkinstein replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Same as 2018 would have been if not for hitting on a young Josh Allen. 6-10 could have easily been 4-12 with Tyrod still at the helm and our level of talent. -
Great point on the player personnel changes that are on the horizon. Once guys like Poyer, Hyde, and Tre White are gone, half of McDs support will be gone.
-
I believe coach contracts are 100% guaranteed. Getting fired is more a hit on their brand than on their life and paycheck.

I dont think he'd get much push back from Terry if it is something he felt strongly about, but you want to let the boss know. If Terry shows up to surprise news that his team just fired their OC and he had no idea, that isnt a great look for McD. Moves of that level are absolutely discussed by the execs. And Dabol took them to the playoffs last year and won coach of the year. And is having a 2nd year dip, just like McD did in 2018 with the 6-10 Bills. -

And even beyond that, owners have to pay out the coach's contract after they are fired even while paying the new guy on top of that. Terry probably wants to know before we start flinging around his millions. -
For sure with that success. I also think Flores/McDaniel and Zimmer/OConnell are great examples too. Defensive coaches that hit their ceiling, and the team (and QB) improves under a new Offensive "unknown". Only reason to not do it now is: Fear. Which is right up there with playing not to lose. Sounds very McD.

Could use Elway too with his move from Reeves to Shanahan. But the timeline is getting less relevant by the decade.
-
Yeah, it was Shanahan for Elway.
-
AND the Falcons should have let Quinn walk and promoted Shanny, much like the Bills should have done with McD/Dabol after 13seconds. But that is a huge and difficult move I dont expect owners to make.
-
I'm not saying that at all. I have made no guarantees that it will get better. I even said as much in that post you just quoted. No one is pretending it cant get worse. No one has asked you to pretend it will be all rose petals. You made both of those up. So maybe look at who is really being too emotional and scared... I said this earlier in the thread if people bothered to read instead of just react: I dont necessarily trust Pegula to make the decision, but I trust that he is more likely to rely on outside help and advice when it comes to NFL hires than he is on NHL hires. He thinks he's a "hockey guy", and makes a lot of those decisions himself. For the Bills, he hired an outside consulting firm who helped find McDermott. Who most of us didnt even have on our coaching radar at the time. No reason to think the firm and Beane couldnt find a decent replacement. Even with Terry in the mix. And before you get worked up, I'm not guaranteeing that
-
Right, and now they are thanks to the coaching change you are arguing against. (And Hurts was by the owner and GM, hence Pederson's firing)
-
I'm not against the idea of hiring an OC with the plan he replaces McD as HC. But if you are going to do that, then just cut bait and fire McD now. Otherwise, you are breeding paranoia and dishonesty in the organization. Very much like the Browns with Gregg Williams and Todd Haley gunning for Hue's job instead of doing their own job. Does it matter when we have no future under McD? The entire motivation of the move is knowing we've hit McD's ceiling. So better to try ANYTHING else, than nothing.
