Some thoughts on today's game and the future
Dr. Who replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have been torn on this insofar as we have so many glaring holes, I have wanted to both trade up for qb and keep enough in reserve to substantially improve elsewhere. I hope we don't have to choose, but if it takes a boatload to get the qb, get the qb. -
Tyrod injury: patella contusion, day-to-day
Dr. Who replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I think we have the ammo to grab the third best qb. If Darnold comes out, I'd be more than happy with either Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield. If not, I think Jackson may be around for one of our firsts and I would take a shot. No way in Hades you are selling this fan base on any form of even potentially building around Tyrod. He appears a fine person and an excellent athlete, but I don't think he's really capable of being consistently good at qb. Given the lower threshold, I would agree he is a solid backup. -

Really, this is precisely the time of year when one switches from long-shot wild card calculations to figuring out draft scenarios. It's going to end up a typical 7-9 type mediocre finish. At least the Chiefs are swooning. Now go up and get a real qb for goodness sake. -

And yet last week, some folks were suggesting we build around Tyrod. -
Sabres & NHL 2017-18 - Entry Draft on June 22
Dr. Who replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I surely did not expect the disaster this season has been. You have to wonder about Housley. If you could look at the Amerks and project a juggernaut in a few years, it would be easier to take, but I don't really have confidence that will happen. Better hope a fair number of fellas in the pipeline are going to hit. -
I am ambivalent about Allen based on what I have read about him. I have not seen him play, but the folks on this board who seem bright about qb seem uncertain or positively against him. So I am just going off what they have said. I've seen Mayfield and Jackson and think they have potential. Anyway, Allen has the measurables in abundance. Unless he really, really, really doesn't want to play for Cleveland. (And who could blame him)

Some folks want to spend crazy to move up. I am reticent to do that, but I do think your basic point is correct. If you identify a franchise qb and don't have one, you have to go get the fella. Just having one should make attracting free agents easier. Imo, Rosen and Darnold are the only qbs I would put in that class. I just doubt Cleveland or the Giants move off their pick if they are at #1 and #2 and that leaves you trying to grab third best qb on your chart. I have Mayfield and Jackson as targets more likely in our range. I think both have a chance at being very good qbs, but there are more question marks.

Sabres & NHL 2017-18 - Entry Draft on June 22

Sadly, I am already focusing on the 2018 draft and hoping for Dahlin. What a mess. -
Well, I like Rosen, but how do you see that happening realistically. Apparently we traded Tyrod Taylor and picks for the first pick in the draft. Even the Browns aren't that stupid. I love the idea of Hue Jackson as OC.
-
Yeah, if you sign Cousins, you are not going the bridge qb route. Then you take a developmental qb with a chance at upside. However, I'd take a shot at the enigmatic Josh Allen in that case, though you might have to use a first to do it.
-
What I really want to know is who is the second string qb on the Bills -- I hope its Mayfield.
-
I don' t claim to be a qb expert. I liked Watson and Mahomes in the last draft. Folks that seem more astute than I such as GunnerBill are not high on Allen. Not sure if inaccuracy is curable or not, but it's one of the important traits you want. Whoever is drafted (and I am assuming we will draft a qb high) bringing in a vet like you suggest is a good idea. (I also surmise Tyrod is unlikely to be back.) Certainly prefereable to the idea of "building around Tyrod."
-
Yikes. That's a heavy price for a team with lots of holes to fill. You're not trading into Cleveland or the Giants' spot, so you're likely looking at the third best qb on the board.
-
I like Mayfield and Jackson as qbs that might be there. Worried about Josh Allen. Looks like Tarzan, accuracy of Jane, but who knows, really?

He's got an outstanding WR corps and a conference that doesn't play defense. He seems pretty uninspiring to me.

Romo is great. Insightful and likeable. And I suspect Barbarian is right about CBS.

Turning our KC Pick into a top 5 pick?
Dr. Who replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't want to trade Glen if he can get to a place where he is healthy most of the time. If we judge he can't, I'd consider trading him to move up if it would get Rosen. Your take is plausible, though I still wonder if Denver would be amenable. I'm likely to change my mind a lot once more scouting stuff comes out -- I'm not at all an expert on qb -- but I like Rosen and Mayfield the best. I'm guessing Darnold stays in school. I'd take Jackson if he fell to us; I don't think you have to trade up to get him. -
Turning our KC Pick into a top 5 pick?

Why wouldn't you just trade with SF? I think Denver knows they don't have a qb worth keeping on their roster. They are the competition. -
U of Tennessee search for a HC is a hot, #rogue mess

They should hire Kevin Sumlin. A&M is ridiculous for letting him go. He's won plenty there. -
Why Taylor can't be the QB longterm---perfect example today
Dr. Who replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Correct. OP talks about qb longterm, which implicitly refers to the 2018 draft. Those who are making it about this year are bad at reading or just want to perpetuate a useless and redundant argument.
