  1. It would still be Terry Pegula making the decision. That's a sobering thought, because he's not good at it. It's true there would be lots of solid folks wanting the job.
  2. Don't forget missing an extra point against the Pats*. I live near Athens, and before that was in Atlanta for decades. They are typically an annoying and unlikeable team, more so this year.
  3. I agree, but after over fifty years of following the team, I don't want to win at any cost. Hoecht is a leader. Wilkins is decidedly not.
  4. It's pretty close to as bad as it sounds. Unfortunately, the owner is stubborn and dumb, so nothing will be done.
  5. Don't know the player. Maybe he's a fit. Thumpers may no longer be viable, yet someone larger than the converted safety type would be nice. I'd like to get away from the athletic, but oft hurt model.
  6. I am not giving up, either. I don't much like the odds, but it could still work out.
  7. Many folks did not like the Coleman pick at the time. His flaws were known and pointed out. His struggles are not a surprise.
  8. If you're a masochist, the Sabres are the team for you.
  9. The Macy's yellow jacket thing was fun. The actual football career, not so much. As others have said, I think he'd do better in the slot, but that means taking better players off the field. It's less on Keon, and more on the arrogant GM who criminally neglects the position.
  10. It isn't meaningless when it costs them the #1 seed. Great that they are good at executing plays they can count on. Sometimes that turns into predictability in crucial moments, and some of those haven't turned out well in the big games. Regardless, it would still be a good thing to have a better, more reliable boundary receiver as a tool in the kit.
  11. Beane doesn't answer to the fans. The fanbase absolutely does care about championships.
  12. That's really when I pay attention, but I'm more a casual fan.
  13. I guess I'm a barbarian for preferring hockey and football, but baseball is a sport with beautiful rhythms that come from the long season with many plot twists. This was easily one of the most memorable World Series that I can recall.
  14. The softness in the past was embarrassing. They might be growing up enough to really compete.
  15. That would probably be the price to trade within the division. I personally do not want to waste a year of Josh's prime, and I think this is the level of move that is needed to optimize your chances. Doubt it happens, though.
  16. The NHL is easily worse than the NFL. I don't think the bad calls are randomly distributed so that it all evens out in the end. You're free to think otherwise.
  17. We need insight from the rabbits from the astral plane. I'm sure they would have a viable solution.
  18. I would too, but aside from Miami not trading him, I think he costs a day 2 pick. I don't know where that mid-rounder price comes from the other fella is speculating. Shaheed will probably cost you a third, and he's the most plausible option out there.
  19. Well, you're the fella who decides to come on another team's message board. If it infuriates you that folks think your team is one of the favored, perhaps you ought to stay away from message boards likely to hold opinions you don't like. It's not just Buffalo Bills fans who think certain teams get a better shake than others from the refs, for whatever reason. And other teams can count on the opposite. It doesn't take much to skew the way a game goes, and it can be done without any kind of trail that would involve lawsuits. It could even be an unconscious bias in many cases. If the NFL wanted to institute reviews for blatant bad calls, or answer the complaints that there are double standards, they could make a concerted effort to answer critics. I've seen no evidence they want to do that on a consistent basis.
  20. There's some distance between rigging and putting your hand on the scale. The league does a lot of things that are not popular. They're going to lose some audience, but it's mostly graybeards, so they don't care.
  21. Now imagine how it would work in the NFL, but they like it murky.
  22. Of course, those who disagree can always charge one with confirmation bias. There's a reason, however, that this is a meme. And a lot of it has to do with the timing of flags. Zebras tend to even it out when it doesn't hurt the precious.
