  1. The world wide interest in tennis is not dependent upon the personalities of tennis players. Whereas a Becker catches short-term attention, it is the Borg, Edberg and Sampras's that are respected. McEnroe and Agassi are exceptions who bridged that gap successfully. I think the underdog status of tennis in the US is strongly linked to this public need for their athletes to also have a flamboyant personality. While I thoroughly enjoy a Sharapova swimsuit pic, I am more likely to support a Justine Henin over her on the tennis court.
  2. While I too got introduced to tennis in the McEnroe era, I think this current one has the best elements of a McEnroe-Borg or Sampras-Agassi rivalry. I do miss the days of a dominant American in tennis, Sampras being the last of them. Back to the OP, I am not sure Roddick will last long enough to play Federer on this surface. Roddick has been a major disappointment and this deep into his career, I don't think he can turn it around especially with the likes of Nadal and Federer around.
  3. The major requirement may end up to be noise tolerance. We are fairly indifferent between the Falls and the campus area but a slight bias towards the latter.
  4. 4-6 of us who were pals during our SUNY-B days are coming July 23-26 for a mini re-union. Can you guys advise about the accommodations ? Here is what we are looking for: - Some place where noise and drinking would not cause complaints - Near the UB south or north campus or near the Falls - About $150-$200 total per night Don't care about number of beds. Help ?!
  5. And he will soon be Lynch's b*tch.
  6. Setting up for a rejection by Pisa, are we ? [EDIT] So that criteria of yours didn't stop the Pats* from getting Paris
  7. Really ? You should read some of the posts of this guy afcfan1
  8. FWIW - "Mark Gaughan, of The Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills would use unrestricted free-agent LB Pisa Tinoisamoa (Rams) at strongside linebacker if he signed with the team." http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl
  9. What is the point of this article anyway ? Which of these points is he bashing TO for anyway: - For generating interest in the fan base and media - For having had a nice career so far - For having been given the keys to the city - For coming to a city with a faltering economy What exactly ? And to top it all he got those two facts wrong. This is not journalism, it is a pointless rant published in a newspaper.
  10. The way this thread has developed, it should be off the main page and moved to PPP or Off the Wall.
  11. To each his own, I guess. I agree to disagree with you.
  12. I am not. Any old topic to start a thread, eh Skooby ?
  13. Didn't see this posted yet: Comcast and NFL
  14. I hope it is player acquisition related and not 'TO does McIntyre'.
  15. Thanx, bb. He is checking out his market value. I think it will be nice to have him if it is in the $2-2.5 MM/year range.
  16. Bumping this thread. Did I miss any news about Pisa or has there been none for the past 2 days ?
  17. Saw Star Trek and Angels & Demons this weekend: Star Trek: I am not a trekkie but a fan of the original series. Post-Cloverfield I was very skeptical of any JJ Abrams movie so went in expecting little. I was far and away impressed with this movie. Well handled story-line, good acting and special effects. In short, the movie did everything well - thrilled, entertained and kept me engaged. A&D: Very disappointing movie. Ron Howard attempts to answer critics of The Da Vinci Code by simplifying the plot and adding more action. What results, however, is a movie with a lot of plot holes. In addition, the movie is lifeless, un-engaging and also devoid of any fun. It just feels like a big chase with people running around trying to do something. The actors also turn in some of their most emotionless performances. Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor are way better than this. While Da Vinci Code did not make for a good movie-going experience, at least it stayed true to the source material and for that it was mildly engaging. in A&D, the soul is missing. I recommend giving it a pass.
  18. I don't know guys, she looks a tad too un-feminine. I prefer the likes of Sharapova. Having said that, I would do either
  19. I think the suspension should stand - I am not sure how many games is the 'right number' but at some point he needs to get more than a slap on the wrist to help him stay out of trouble in the future
  20. Budget ? Size ? Key features you need ? Performance/utility/reliability ?
  21. I also wonder how Derek Fine fits into the TE picture. In the games last year, Fine was not used all the time but looked like he could become an adequate TE. So it will be interesting to see the Nelson vs Fine competition. Hopefully, one of them takes firm charge of the TE spot and becomes a difference maker we have been so sorely lacking over the past several years.
  22. Not a confirmation per se, but a mention of 4 years is here EDIT: Source probably is Tim Graham
